You’re not getting a lot for him. Sox are far better off betting on Lucas - who has already bet on himself - than trading him. I for the life of me cannot wrap my head the trade Lucas crowd. It makes less than no sense.
-
There is a 0% chance the Sox strip this down and rebuild. It’s not worth discussing.

He’s the one guy I’m interested in keeping. Can the rest of the staff. Please.

Lol Hahn didn’t negotiate Pollocks option. Haseley isn’t even remotely close to as good as Pollock. He had a similar OPS to Pollocks this season while facing AAA pitchers in a hitter haven. And who are these other options, GreenSox? I’d love to hear. Cuz there aren’t any.
-
That's a bridge too far, IMO.

I believe this will be the first Sox game in Minneapolis I have not attended since 2020 covid season. I may change my mind as the game approaches (tix are awfully cheap!), but no interest atm.

LOL, you'd rather play 31 YO career minor leaguer Mark Payton, pay 32 year old Adam Engel $5M, watch Gavin Sheets try to play OF defense, or play Adam Haseley than pay AJ Pollock $8M? Regardless, its a player option, not a team option. But the Sox are so much better off keeping Pollock on the roster than playing any of those options or non-Oscar Colas options in the minors.

Yeah, I go back and forth on it. Pollock is a solid major league OF on a team with only 1 other at this moment, and he (Robert) is proving unable to stay healthy. Pollock had a s%*# season, but he could easily bounce back next year. I don't see him being any worse against RHP, to be honest. If used to fill in until Colas is ready, and then used as the 4th OF thereafter getting a couple starts a week and filling in for injuries, he could be well worth the net $8M. Now of course, saving $8M on 2023 payroll (really $13M because the buyout is due in 2022) gives the Sox some much needed breathing room under $200M. It probably gives them the ability to sign Nimmo and a solid 5th SP and be around $190M. But will that $ actually get reinvested? We're also looking at Sheets playing the OF for 4-6 weeks until Colas arrives in that scenario. I honestly don't hate the thought of Pollock coming back. In the scheme of things, this isn't a big deal IMO.

I think its awful, but its better than TLR. I'd rather just go with Jirschele and get a seasoned bench coach. Ultimately though, ABT. Anyone But Tony.

While paying Pollock $13M isn’t ideal, a they owe him $5M regardless. A net cost of $7M to have a solid OF on the roster that doesn’t have to play everyday ideally isn’t the worst thing in the world. Pollock is going to come in handy when Robert and whatever OF we sign get hurt. It’s not ideal, but of all the issues, a net $7M to Pollock isn’t the worst one. While unlikely, I have always gotten the feeling that Pollock just didn’t fit in on this roster. He is a wealthy man; he may be willing to take a small pay cut, and that is all it would be, to choose his team for next year.

Bochy is just more of the same. Let's get a guy who isn't retirement age, has some fire and an understanding of today's game. It just really shouldn't be that hard.
-
Oh, its definitely Naylor in the background.
-
Sure, I just don't know it necessarily boils down to those 2 days unless there is something I am missing. Of course, the sooner they make the announcement the better.

While I don't blame the Clevelanders one bit for this, or the "f*** the white sox" chant they also did during the celebration, I just wanted to stop in and say "fu*k you!" to Josh Naylor. I really dislike that dude. Sox should have hit him in the upper regions after that douchey mocking hand gesture BS he did the other day. Yeah, Tribe came in and embarrassed the Sox. Naylor owned us this year. But don't let that hothead walk all over you.

Joc is an awful OF. We’ve seen enough of that garbage.

This group of players has quit and is not playing hard anymore

The twins are really bad right now. Losing 6 in a row to them would be something. -
I didn’t really read it that way. I read it like JR wants to keep his buddy he’s paying $4M next year and that’s the deep divide.

The other thing that you at least have to consider it as it pertains to signing a higher end FA like Nimmo (higher end all relative, he may be the biggest contract in club history or close, but certainly isn’t a superstar) is that the Sox have a lot of $ coming off the books in 2024. Sure spending $18-20M on Nimmo and a solid SP like Manea May push then up close to the tax in 2023, but Sox have around $70M coming off the books the next season with Lynn, Grandal, Giolito, Pollock, Kelly and Diekman. Raises will eat up a chunk of that, but Sox have some longer term payroll space if they’re willing to stretch it for a year. I get the skepticism, but this is still their window.
-
This too, though I don’t think Moncadas contract is Hosmer or Corbin bad. Sox would basically have to give him away, but don’t think they’d have to eat much, if any, $. Point is, Moncada is going nowhere. Sox are so much better off just hoping he can be a 3+ WAR player next year, while being the best infield defender they have, and hopefully, at least an average bat with upside for more. It’s in there.
-
Moncada is going to put up over 1 fWAR in around 100 games this season. In his previous 2 full seasons, he was worth 5.5 and 4.0 fWAR. He’s not a perfect player but he’s more than competent, and frankly, he’s one of the few guys on this team that provides the Sox with attributes in areas they’re generally awful at. A portion of this fan base has lost all ability to be objective towards Yoan.

TBF, keeping Kimbrel ended up sort of working out in the end. Pollock sucked, but that trade was fine....it just may have hamstrung the Sox a bit in the interim. I don't really care to re-open that debate and buying out Kimbrel would have been a fine avenue as well, but the trade was fine. Just sucks Pollock forgot how to hit leaving the NL West. Also, TBF, nearly everyone who was banging on the let Rodon go train wanted 2 things: 1) actually offer Rodon the QO; and 2) when he rejected, use the AAV savings to actually sign an impact LH OF. Of course, neither of those happened. If you're going to trade AV, I don't hate your idea. I don't see how you trade AV and don't bring back Pito though. Flipping AV+ for Burnes/Woodruff pushes all the chips into 23&24, but that's the direction we're headed anyway. I think the Sox rotation is still pretty solid, and do expect Giolito to rebound in his walk year; but acquiring Burnes/Woodruff certainly makes it one of, if not the, best rotations in teh game. I am just not sure the rotation is a bigger need than fixing the position player side of things that needs major addressing on lineup balance, power, and certainly defense.

It's a risk, but with Nimmo, Pollock, Colas and Robert you have 4 OFs. Then you can always go back to playing Eloy, AV and Sheets in the OF occasionally as needed, just so long as it is isn't a daily thing, and certainly not 2 of them like all of 22. Its also the reason Nimmo can be had for $18-20M rather than much more. At least he's a really good defender and can play all 3 spots.
