Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Nah, not really. The Sox FO isn’t nearly as dumb as some of you want to believe. But whatever, not arguing about it today.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
They aren’t trading for Wil Myers. He solves exactly zero problems.

Offseason Part 3 - Because Part 2 Was a Dud
Myers bats right handed, I do believe.

Right, even if Conforto puts you over the tax by like $5M with Kimbrel still on roster, what is he first tax rate? 25%? Its kind of chump change.

Got it. Thanks. So basically you're at $192.6M CBT payroll + $16M benefits + $4M min guys for IL stints = $212.6M - $230M= $17.4M. Makes sense - thanks!

I understand that. Per sportrac, the $192.6M payroll quoted is the CBT payroll, not actual payroll. Trying to understand what makes up this $20M in added costs Balta is tacking onto the $192.6M when saying we only have $17M of space. Seems steep - just trying to understand what makes up that number.

Even if you have to eat $3M or something, could still end up being a better decision than letting him walk out the door for nothing depending on the return. Shit, i'd eat half the deal if the right guy comes back. Just depends. Now if Sox eat a nice chunk and just get filler back, obviously picking up option looks foolish. There is still hope tho.

Balta, since I know you love this CBT stuff, question for you. Sportrac has the Sox CBT payroll at $192.6M including a 27-man roster. How do you get from $37.4M in space to $17M in space? I know that CBT thresholds used to include player benefits, do we even know for that they still do in the CBA? Do player benefits really cost upwards of $20M (10% of payroll)? I know you also build in some room for guys who get called up for IL stints, etc., but $20M seems like a steep cushion for those costs. Just curious how you're coming up with those numbers.

Rodon is not special. He has talent, but he's thrown 669 innings across 7 seasons. Betting $18M that he makes more than 20 starts in 22 is a bad bet. I am going to side with the people that know more about Rodon and his health better than anyone else in the world on this one.

If Colas and/or Cespedes become average everyday regulars in the bigs, that is a huge win. They should be counted on for absolutely nothing. Neither of these guys are even top 100 prospects. I feel like this should be pinned to every thread.

If they're eating the $16M, id do that in second.

Conforto easy. Sox plenty good enough to win this division somewhat easily with current rotation. Grab a SP in July.

Schwarber to Phillies
Half this board would be losing their mind if the Sox signed Boyd to that deal.

Hated it so much from the very beginning.

If you want to ignore the other 3-4 years at ~$20M AAV, sure. Still needed relievers and a 2B, so this statement doesn’t really work. Subtract Harrison and Valazquez if you will, but that is $7M. It’s nothing.

Im aware. Admittedly scanned over that little caveat to the statement.

Graveman definitely would be gone. Dudes pretty good.

I thought it was like $22M of space, but perhaps I’m thinking of dated info.

Kris Bryant to the Rockies - 7/$182
Kind of wild for Rosenthal to be that forward there.

Nothing to do with keeping Cesar on this roster is defensible. He didn’t fit in. Wasnt the guy. Now that isn’t necessarily a defense of Harrison, but I’ll roll with the ball of energy and spark plug over the drone that is Cesar Hernandez.

Joc Pederson is a horrible RF. Continue to live under your dark cloud. I’ll wait to see how the rest of the offseason plays out. Even if the Sox stupidly role with Vaughn and Sheets in RF, they’re still easily a top 3 lineup in the AL. So yeah, jump off the ledge if you’d like. I won’t stop ya. I’ll sit back and watch 95+ wins and w 3rd straight playoff performance.
