Roster Moves
Mentioned this in the catchall, but this may be a better spot for it.. When are the Sox going to announce their non-roster ST invites and other milb deals? I know a few have sprinkled in - Detwiler, Delmonico, Cuthbert, Frare, Burr - but I expect there will be many more, especially guys from outside the org. Merkin mentioned in a tweet a couple weeks ago that that slew of NRI guys would be announced after the new year, but I haven't seen it.

Don't get your hopes up. He has an option remaining, and despite all Sox fans thinking he's terrible (because he has been) and just wanting to cut bait, he is actually somewhat useful depth to have in AAA. So I highly doubt he's going anywhere, but I share your thoughts that I hope he doesn't throw a pitch in the big leauges for the Sox in 2020.

No word that I have seen on if Guerrero has cleared or not. My guess is Zavala and Medeiros will go for EE and Cishek. Sounds like EE is taking his physical today, so we should hear about 1 of them today. Purely my opinion, but I think you could group the back end of the 40 man as follows: High risk of not making it to ST on the 40 man: Zavala (2 options) and Medeiros (2 options) Next grouping of guy's that can't feel too safe, likely in order: Fulmer (0 options), Foster, (3 options), Ruiz (1 option) Covey (1 option) Doubt they're going anywhere right now: Engel (1 option), Basabe (1 option), Mercedes (3 options), Rutherford (3 options) Cordero (0 options) I personally think Sox will hang onto Fulmer, give him last pen spot out of ST, and DFA him shortly thereafter when he's much more likely to clear and stay in the org than if he was DFA'd between now and OD. Foster is a tough one as he was a surprise add to the 40 man for me personally. I am not attached to him at all, but clearly Sox saw enough to protect him, so I would assume he survives the offseason.

Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA
Possible, but I think Ruiz is pretty safe. He is a big arm and an option remaining. I also don't see the Sox DFAing Covey right now. Fulmer I guess I could see, but I actually think he'll get on last chance on the OD roster.

Fegan via source: Cishek deal last major deal for Sox this offseason
Which is undoubtedly the correct way to handle this situation. He has plenty of options. He'll get his chances in MLB in 2020, and things open up a bit in 2021 if he deserves further chances.

Guessing Zavala or Medeiros gets the DFA. The other likely to go for Cishek.

Sox Sign Cishek; 1 yr, $5.25 mil + option (6.75, 750k buyout)
For sure. Hard not to feel for the kid.

Sox Sign Cishek; 1 yr, $5.25 mil + option (6.75, 750k buyout)
May be a little easier for him to clear waiver in season than just before too.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they decide to give him one last shot if he has a decent ST.

Castellanos to Reds , rumored 4/64M
Fair. I mean, I wouldn't complain if the Sox got him on like a 1/$20M deal. I just doubt it happens. I would complain if they committed to more than 1 year of him.

Sox Sign Cishek; 1 yr, $5.25 mil + option (6.75, 750k buyout)
He's out of options. He is in the pen, or in another org come OD.

Castellanos to Reds , rumored 4/64M
I suppose. He could also regress back to the ~110 wRC+ player he always was, and coupled with his dogshit defense, put himself in a pretty terrible situation moving forward. I don't think Castellanos is taking a 1 year deal unless that is his only option.

Yah we're pretty thin in the IF, especially the left side. Would love Brad Miller.

Castellanos to Reds , rumored 4/64M
What really changes for him though? He's still a terrible defensive OF, 1 year older, takes the risk of having a down year with the bat, and enters a FA pool with more OF's in 2021. Don't really see how any of that benefits him.

Ok'd by me. I feel like another OF signing would render Leury mostly moot. I wouldn't hate a stopgap 2B, but OK with Leury and Mendick getting the early looks there.

Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming
Don’t see the fit personally.

Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming
If you’re gonna add an OF, it makes sense to add on that can actually platoon with Mazara.

There is none.

To be fair, the FA options are getting slim. But honestly, I am fine with just rolling with some combo of Burdi,Fulmer, Hamilton, Ruiz, Foster, Thompson and whatever NRI guys they bring in for the last two spots. I feel like Burdi and Hamilton, at the very least, will be in the bigs most of the season. And Fulmer is out of options so I could see them giving him one last shot.

Lol the White Sox aren't going to have a 2020 payroll of $190M.

Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA
Is a little weird this hasn't gone official. Could be as simple as EE hasn't returned to the states his dad's funeral, but its been a while now. I kind of doubt they'd make him wait this long just so we don't have to DFA one of Zavala/Medeiros/Foster/Fulmer.

Can confirm that the Twins are not at all hopeful in regards to JD. They still need a 1B or 3B, though.

Steve Stone: more bullpen help is coming
I think it’s a terrible fit as I’ve stated many times, but if his market has cratered I won’t complain. If they can get him on like 3/$45M deal it would be fun for 2020, but I just hope they plan to trade him next offseason if it’s more than a 1 year deal. But I cannot imagine a 1 year deal being possibility worth discussing. That said, I don’t think the Sox acquired Mazara to not play and I don’t think they’ll give Castellanos the 4 years and close to $70M it will require to be a platoon player. And I don’t think they signed EE to do anything less than DH as much as he’s able. It’s the ultimate example of forcing a fit.

I am going to be kinda disappointed if Sox sign Puig. Just let Mazara do his thing. With Robert up day one, Leury gets less reps - let him get the platoon oops. Sign a 2B like Brad Miller, Brock Holt or Zobrist and go to battle.
