Ryu to Jays - 4 yr/80 mil
So what's your plan then? Pay Dallas fucking Keuchel $18M AAV? Sign an extreme flyball pitcher in MadBum to come to the Southside of Chicago? Acquire the corpse of David Price for $33M AAV? The Sox have money to spend - they should be acquiring pitching on the FA market, not trading valuable pieces of the future for it.

Even with Ryu missing half of 2018, he still amassed 6.7 fWAR the last two seasons. Using a super conservative estimate of $8M per 1 fWAR, he's been worth ~$54M the last two seasons. The guy is good enough that he can definitely be worth his salary even if he averages 125 IP per year over the course of his contract (which is his career average). I don't want to sign guys just to sign them. The farthest thing. I want to sign Ryu because he is the best available SP (besides the guy we're never getting) on the market, and we need SP. I also think his market will be somewhat suppressed due to his injury history. The guy isn't going to come to the Sox and become an 180+ IP per season workhorse, but the Sox also don't necessarily need him to be that guy.

For sure - no doubt he is an injury risk. But he's also really fucking good when he's healthy, and we have Kopech arriving in June, Rodon after the ASB. If he can stay healthy the 1st half of the year, we should be able to stomach an IL stint or two.

This too. Dodgers have had the luxury of taking it easy on Ryu. I have to doubt that he'd have pitched more innings for pretty much any other organization.

It is true though. You can discount it because one had TJS and one didn't if that's what you want to do, but they both came to the big leagues in 2013, and they're within 10 IP of one another. Yes, Wheeler missed more time with 1 specific injury, Ryu the same amount of time with mutliple injuries, but they've pitched the same amount in their MLB career. Also, I don't believe Ryu has had any arm injuries in over 3 years. Ryu is not perfect, but he is by the far the best remaining option. 4/$85M is pretty rich for him, but I'd be willing to do it. If it gets much over that, that's pretty brutal.

They just offered a guy 5/$125M who literally has been injured the exact same amount as Ryu.

Does not make sense to me.

Trade Market for Starting Pitchers...
Honest question - why would the Sox target Frazier? The guy literally solves none of our issues, and his former prospect status alone means he probably still for some godforsaken reason has trade value.

Trade Market for Starting Pitchers...
Please. Would like be the cheapest of the options prospect-wise - besides maybe Beni/Price due to Price's contract - as both Ray and Peralta are only controlled through 2020. Dbacks aren't just going to hand over Ray, though.

This literally applies to at least 70% of the posters here.

I actually want David Peralta. Or Joc. Or I’d be fine with Calhoun. Someone who can play some defense would be nice.

People sure love to ignore defense around here.

Successful Plan B; What’s Next?
Sensed a little attitude with Hahn to Levine at the start. Was fun to watch.

Ryu to Jays - 4 yr/80 mil
Quite simply - the Sox need to sign Ryu. He's the best bet remaining. Give him 4 years if you have to - you can't tell me 4/$84M isn't the high offer right now. At that point, you sign a Walker, Wood, Porcello, or Lindbloom caliber for the other spot, and pitching is looking soooo much better.

Yah, I mean - if I am the Sox, I am doing everything I can to get Ryu right now. Everything falls into place if you have Ryu. Much less so IMO if its Keuchel.

Exactly. Pass.

Favorite "Bounce Back"/Savvy Pitcher FA Candidates
No, sorry - just missed that.

Yah, Alex Wood is my favorite pick. But Walker is up there now that he is available. Frankly, you could do both. Not sure if Walker is even going to be an option OD. Porcello would be OK too I guess. Lindbloom is interesting as well. Smyly as a dirt cheap option.

Trade Market for Starting Pitchers...
I really don't think Hahn is going to trade any of the super notable pieces. I could see Vaughn going in the right deal I guess if Sox are serious about signing either of Catellanos or Ozuna. But I REALLY don't see any of Madrigal, Robert, Cease, Kopech, Eloy, etc. going anywhere.

Sox in on Marcell Ozuna? I mean, maybe. Or not.
I don't think the Sox are ever going to be one of the premier spenders in baseball, and I DO think that they need to spend their money wisely. I also do give the Sox credit for offering Wheeler 5/$125M. There is nothing you can do when you offer the guy a deal above what all 29 other clubs would offer, and he still won't take it. I do expect them to spend most if not all of that $125M yet this offseason, that ya' know, just started. What happened last offseason happened last offseason. Its over, and frankly, we're not in a meaningfully worse place because of it. But please continue to drag every conversation back to that - its so much fun to talk about!

$25M AAV for a good not great pitcher is in fact a huge sum of money. But you dismiss because it doesn't fit your narrative. You're not worth arguing with, continue to b**** away about nothing in early December if you so choose. No matter what the Sox do, you'll complain.

JFC dude, its December 9th. They just tried to break the largest contract in franchise history twice within 2 weeks. STFU.

Dallas Keuchel (discussion)...come on down!
I mean....in this market, what is a market rate deal for him? We need a good SP. Keuchel would be a fine 2nd SP addition, but we don't really need 2 SP on multiyear deals. We need one a multiyear deal and one on a 1 year deal. Kuechel for 3/$45M is whatever, but if that's you best SP addition, we're basically punting 2020.

You only don't care because it doesn't fit your narrative.

Dallas Keuchel (discussion)...come on down!
I don't want Keuchel. But this is silly way to look at it. WAR is a counting stat. Kuechel sat out half the season.
