Trade Candidates: Hitters
We literally have no hitters like Dickerson. And he cannot play CF. And we have a CF for the next 7 seasons. Where do you come up with this shit?

White Sox listed as interested in Marcel Ozuna by Dominican Reporter
Grandal did not receive a QO. He got one is 2018, and cannot get it again.

Grandal - Early Off-Season Speculation
I could see a warm bodies offseason of something like Calhoun, Encarncaion, Wacha and Wood. The team's payroll would still be over $90M in that scenario. To be clear, I am not in the slightest bit advocating for anything resembling that offseason - it would be truly disgusting - but there is no way the Sox aren't spending $40M+ in new AAV on FA/trades this winter.

Grandal - Early Off-Season Speculation
There is a 0% chance that the Sox payroll is under $90M. I would bet every dollar I have on that.

White Sox Offseason Rumors
I think the first scenario you describe is the middle ground. Completely underwhelmed would be an offseason like last where the biggest signing is a 2 year $18M deal and few trades for shitty vets on expiring 1 year deals. There isn't much "middle ground" between the two scenarios you describe, unless you're talking something like Cole + Rendon + Wheeer + Castellanos, which obviously is complete fantasyland and never going to happen, because no team in MLB could pull that offseason off.

Trade Candidates: Hitters
Mariners won't be accepting any "take a flier" offers on Haniger. The guy is a year removed from being one of the most valuable OF in the game. Still controlled for there more seasons. A fluke injury last year isn't going to crater his value to nothing - the return to acquire Haniger would be painful.

Grandal - Early Off-Season Speculation
So you think the Sox are going to have a payroll under $90M?

Will Madrigal be ready for 2020 opening day?
The best question is why an informed Sox fan would want Robert and Madrigal to be on the OD roster? At this point, that would be insane! We’re talking about less than 20 games most likely folks.
-
Grandal - Early Off-Season Speculation
They’re going to have to spend some real money on someone. Wheeler and/or Grandal are the ones that make the most sense.
-
Will Madrigal be ready for 2020 opening day?
I doubt we see games with Madrigal and Robert after the initial couple weeks. They'll both be up for good by late April, barring injury.

Will Madrigal be ready for 2020 opening day?
LOL.

Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
And then watch whoever we traded Mookie for develop into a well above average player making a pittance for 3 seasons, just so we could win 83 games in 2020! #totallyworthit #wheredoisignup #sofuckingstupid

What about Collins?
I literally just called him a platoon option against LHP.
-
What about Collins?
Both Leury and McCann rake lefties. McCann can catch against LHP, and Grandal DH. You could also put Leury in LF (or RF depending on whoever that ends up being) and slide Eloy to DH against LHP. Not super concerned about filling the DH spot against lefties.
-
What about Collins?
I'd be hard pressed to call any scenario that results in 94 wins a worst case scenario.

Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
I know the Red Sox aren't going to trade one of the best players in the game for a bunch of garbage. Let's also remember there are a bunch of other clubs that would also like Mookie in their lineup, so you have to outbid them. So good luck, buddy.

Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
Making some noise at the expense of Madrigal or Vaughn or Cease is so short sighted and stupid. Unless you like watching Tatis transition into a star on the Padres and not the Sox, not sure how any right minded Sox fan can get behind trading any legitimate prospects for 1 year of Betts.
-
What about Collins?
Yah its gross, but a 13.7% BB% is exactly what the Sox need - not to mention the left handed power. He's going to strike out a lot - but he also provides some things that the Sox lineup sorely needs.

FS: 40-Man Roster Decisions, Eligibility and The Rule 5 Draft Implications
Yah, I don't think a team is going to want to jam up a roster spot all year on a DH only guy. I would happily wager that he won't be drafted in the R5, but if he is, chances are he's getting returned to the Sox before the season. Having an extra roster spot next season may be enough to entice someone to make the gamble, but I just don't see it.

FS: 40-Man Roster Decisions, Eligibility and The Rule 5 Draft Implications
A little surprised to see this take from GreenSox, the lover of fringe prospects. Frare and Ruiz are going no where. Frare still has 2 options and Ruiz 1. Both have great arms, and while they both were terrible in 19, they are good AAA insurance. Palka is a dead goose - he'll be gone soon. Medeiros is probably a coin flip at best to survive the offseason. Profiles decently as a lefty reliever, and did OK once transition to that role full time in 19, but LOOGYs are less valuable now with the new rules, and he's behind Bummer, Fry and Frare. So going to be tough for him him to crack the MLB pen, but he does have 2 options, so that helps. Vieira is out of options, so he's probably the likeliest to go of this crew after Palka, and the fact that the Sox didn't call him up in August probably shows how they feel about him. But he did pass the first round of cuts, so they clearly like him enough to keep him around for now. His arm is electric. Oh and Mercedes....no one is going to take this guy in the R5 draft. Keeping him off the 40 man is fine, and probably the easiest way to retain him for now.
-
What about Collins?
Except you generally want your backup catcher to actually be good at catching. Collins best role is a platoon DH/1B and 3rd catcher. He'll get plenty of at bats that way, and that is how I expect the Sox to utilize him in 2020. The plan works a hell of a lot better with Grandal in the fold, however.

Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
I am not defending that trade, but Semien was still terrible defensively with Oakland the year after the trade. He really didn't become a plus defender until 2018, after 1 season of being one of if not the worst SS in the league, and another 2 seasons of average at best defense. Could he have made that same progress with the Sox? Impossible to say. But its not like Oakland transformed him overnight.

Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
Do I think the Sox should go after Betts in 2020? Sure, assuming Adolfo doesn't explode into a big time prospect in 2020, which I think is a decent possibility if he can stay healthy. I do not like the Sox chances of actually landing him, and even if the Sox were dumb enough to trade Madrigal or Cease for Betts prior to 2020 season, Betts is still going to test FA. Does that mean the Sox can't sign him? Obviously not. But it means they'll have to outbid 29 other clubs on the open market. Therefore, I am not trading any significant assets for him this winter.

FS: 40-Man Roster Decisions, Eligibility and The Rule 5 Draft Implications
Thanks for bumping. Should see some smaller trades across MLB over the next 48 hours you would think.
-
Would you trade for Mookie Betts, and what would you trade
This team SHOULD NOT trade significant assets for a 1 year player, Is that better? Sign Betts in 13 months. Don't give up Madrigal or Cease or Vaughn for a guy that is going to walk after 1 season. Its silly.
