Cause for concern on offense?
I don't think any is "fascinated" with Mazara. But he is a 24 year old LH former elite prospect with light tower power and room to improve. He's definitely not the sexy name he was 3-4 year ago, and he's relatively cheap and has a far bit of upside. Its unfortunate that he's not a good defender, as that definitely need to be a priority. But he should cost about 1/3 as much as Calhoun and has significantly better offensive upside. Again, there are probably 8-9 options I would prefer over Mazara, but if all he costs was something Fulmer + Laz Rivera, I'd rather plug Mazara in RF/DH and see if we catch lightning in the a bottle than roll with internal options.

Yolmer contemplates not being on the Sox
I'd be surprised if Yolmer is non-tendered, but I would also be surprised if they go to arb with him. I hope they go in another direction, but I doubt that they do. They will offer him something like 2 years/$8M, and he'll likely take it. It's whatever. While we could certainly do better, we could also do worse. At least he is a plus defender. I just hope the Sox call up Madrigal by the end of April and end the Yolmer as the everyday 2B era.

Cause for concern on offense?
Ehh, honestly I'd be fine with Mazara. He'd be in my top 10 for wants in RF. Definitely not first few choices, but I'd rather him than Kole Calhoun at $14M.

Cause for concern on offense?
Yah I think he’ll always have a BABIP over .350 or so. He just hits piss missiles all over the field.

James McCann - catcher of the future ?
McCann would be for an excellent backup. I agree with that, and hope that is what he is for the Sox next year. But he's produced 2.2 fWAR this season. Good for 10th among all catchers in baseball. Unless you think there are only 9 starter quality catchers in baseball, this is another very poor hot take from Jack Parkman.

Future White Sox Lineup #GetExcited
Vaughn alone for Pederson would be such a comically bad trade for the White Sox. Cmon man

Free Agency - How confident are you?
Mmmhmmm. Would have been complainers regardless. Moving on from Avi was the right decision based on the situation.

Free Agency - How confident are you?
They had him for 1 more season. He ran out of time to become anything more than he was with the White Sox. For an org that struggles to move on, I give the Sox credit for turning the page from Avi. Edit: the plan to replace him was in fact poor. Sucks Cordell couldn’t be half ways decent but he was worth giving the look to.

Free Agency - How confident are you?
I mean, sure. Because RF has been a black hole and Avi is major leaguer. But it wouldn’t have really changed much and Avi would still be walking as a FA in a couple months. Avi is what Avi is, and the Sox know exactly what that is. I lost absolutely zero sleep about not having Avi. Though I will always respect the guy for always busting his butt.

Keep Leury and other in-house options in RF all season in this scenario?

2020 RF options
A few of us have been discussing Nimmo for months on here.

2020 RF options
I guess the bigger question I would have for you is what is your alternative options? You said you don't want to go into next year with inhouse options in RF. I agree with that. We really need a LH RF and that can play at least average defense. That really only leaves us with Kole Calhoun in RF assuming the Angels buy him out, which they likely will. He gets a giant MEH from me. He is fine with me if we add multiple more notable FAs, but he's still far from exciting and provides virtually no upside, albeit an upgrade over the trash we've thrown out there this season. Dickerson is interesting as a bat, but he's not a RF, and he's not good in LF either. There are just so few options that trading some tertiary prospects for a guy that can plug a corner OF spot for a few seasons that also solves a few of the other team weaknesses makes sense to me. Whether that guy is Brandon Nimmo, or Nomar Mazara, or Ramiel Tapia, or David Dahl, or Gregory Polonco depends on what those teams are asking in return.

2020 RF options
Yah, I am not trading Reylo for him either. Meh. I am not losing much sleep over any of the three I mentioned. Rutherford may still have enough prospect notability to have some name recognition, but that may very well be gone soon. Hansen is an trainwreck and has been for some time now. Both Rutherford and Hansen need to be added to the 40 man in December and while we have a lot of fat to trim, we have a lot to add, I suspect the Sox will be adding at least 5 MLB players to the 40 man this offseason. I don't think trading from some excess, especially guys that need protection is all that bad of an idea, but I get what you're saying. We have money to spend but there isn't really a fit on the FA market that makes a ton sense for RF (whether its defense, handedness, commitment, etc.) and that is the one position where I think a trade makes sense. I am definitely not making a similar trade for a SP or a DH/1B when there are several available on the FA market for just money. Also don't think using our financial flexibility to take on a bad contract is a very good use of resources.

2020 RF options
It wasn't really a "take"...it was just an comparison. Nimmo didn't debut until late June 2016 and spent no time on the DL that season. He's missed parts of 2 seasons with injuries, not three. Look, I am not proposing to trade any the top 5 prospects or major pieces of the MLB club. But I would definitely trade a package of players outside of the top 5 for him. Something like Rutherford, Pilkington and Hansen, or something comparable. Maybe that gets you there, maybe it doesn't...but definitely worth exploring.

2020 RF options
Nimmo has struggled with injuries, but his career OPS is .822 in over 1,000 plate appearances. FIWW - that is higher than Manny Machado's career OPS. The guy is really good, he's a good defender and left handed stick. The only reason I would imagine he'd potentially be attainable is his injury history the fact that the Mets are already lefty heavy and have a crowded OF mix. Nimmo is legitimately exactly what the Sox need in RF.

2020 RF options
I love how (most) everyone is now on the Nimmo train. He really is a great fit.

Nick Castellanos
Would you guys be happy with this offseason? -Resign Abreu 2 years - $30M -Sign Castellanos 4 years - $60M -Sign Kole Calhoun 1 year - $10M -Sign Zack Wheeler 4 years - $70M -Sign Alex Wood 1 year - $8M -Sign Chris Martin (RP) 2 years $12M Payroll would be right about ~$120M. Lineup by May 1: Robert CF, Moncada 3B, Abreu 1B/DH, Eloy LF, Castellanos 1B/DH, Calhoun RF, Anderson SS, McCann C, Madrigal 2B BN: Leury, Yolmer/Mendick, Collins It wouldn't be my first choice (give me Grandal over Castellanos and I'd like it alot more), but I certainly wouldn't be mad about it. Pretty righty heavy, but going to be tough to solve that honestly.

2020 RF options
Adolfo is going to be a legit major league outfielder. Whether that is in 2020 or 2023 - not sure. Assuming Sox get that option year back as Hahn mentioned, they have until Opening Day 2022 to add him to the 25 man roster.

Nick Castellanos
Makes sense. Guess this particular scenario just doesn't happen that often.
-
2020 RF options
Yah, I'd definitely prefer Mazara to the FA options honestly.

You sure? Boston can offer him a QO if he opts out of his contract?
