Daniel Webb released
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 01:46 PM) Don't know why they released him. Not a big loss, but I would think he's still decent AAA depth. He's better than a lot of guys in the bullpen in AAA Agreed edit: I too had forgotten about the TJ.

JB Shuck outrighted to Charlotte
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 03:12 PM) Guess that'll mean he's back on the big league roster sooner or later. That's how these things work. Guys who should be outright waived keep hanging around. Mark Do you not understand the concept of depth? I often wonder. JB Shuck sucks, but it never hurts to have guys with MLB experience in the minors.

A Proposal: Courtney Hawkins, Pitcher
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 2, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) 13th overall pick. I hate that this team hasn't been able to evaluate talent. A handful of guys drafted in front of him, and handful of guys drafted within the next 10 after him were busts too. Every team has draft busts...and thankfully, the Sox haven't had many of them since Hawkins.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 27, 2016 -> 11:03 PM) WISHLIST that puts us in postseason with a good manager like Renteria Cespedes (pay him whatever he wants, how bout 24 million per year for 3 years total of 72 mill) Get rid of Lawrie and play Saladino. acquire a GOOD catcher and GOOD reliever: in blockbuster trade; make it happen Mr. Hahn and we are a contender. Give up minor league talent for a good catcher and good reliever. PIECACAKE!

James Shields officially not opting out
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 27, 2016 -> 10:15 PM) Rodon over Schwarber was and still is the correct call. This. The mystique around Schwarber for Chicagoan's is comical.

James Shields officially not opting out
180 IP of 4.80 ERA is all the Sox can ask for from Shields. If they can give him that, he's worth his deal.

Your Offseason Wishlist
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 27, 2016 -> 09:44 AM) Please no to Jason Castro. There are better options out there. Give me Hundley or Kurt Suzuki (assuming Ramos/Wieters are gone) For realz? I'm no Jason Castro apologist, but Suzuki sucks. I know who Nick Hundly is, but I've never thought much of him. Don't know how is defense is. I guess I'd be OK with that move if we're not going for it at all, but Kurt Suzuki is bad at baseball.

Your Offseason Wishlist
Hi8s, your team would be SO bad at defensively, it'd be hard to watch. Mleky is probably a better defender than Trumbo. Actually, I am pretty certain he is...at least Melky has a cannon. If the Sox go for it, it'll be in their typical fashion. Sign a couple stop gap players at CF and C, maybe a bullpen arm or two. Maybe do that in conjunction with a Sale trade and then sign a stop gap SP as well. I'll go with Carlos Gomez and Jason Castro.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 26, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) Yes, but a year ago, Sanchez was coming with 3-4 additional prospects. No way they would trade Sanchez, Frazier and Torres now, as a package. Heck, Sanchez's asking price at the moment is more than almost anyone in the game because of his position and years of control. It would be like Sanchez AND the equivalent of Montas/Avi Garcia three years ago. That's too big of a risk for the White Sox. For Chris Sale? LOL. GMAFB.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) I still think the most likely path the Sox take is to try to add in the offseason for one last hurrah, and then aggressively dismantle the whole thing at the trade deadline when it fails. I think this because the 2017-18 offseason is the first one where there looks to be absolutely no argument for contention, barring the unforeseeable arrival of new breakout stars. I could see this as well. This is what I thought they'd do for a long time - but the opportunity for an overpay is there this offseason, and I think the Sox explore it.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 05:54 PM) I really don't think they rebuild. I am thinking they do end up dealing Sale, but instead of rebuilding, it's sort of a retooling. Move Sale and get JBJ, Devers, Kopech, and Rodriguez and then grab someone who can play LF and move Melky to DH. If they did something like that, next year could be really interesting: Eaton RF JBJ CF Abreu 1B Cespedes LF Melky DH Frazier 3B Saladino/Lawrie 2B Avila? C Anderson SS Quintana L Gonzalez R Rodon L Rodriguez R Fulmer R Rotation is pretty brutal, and Rodriguez throws with his left hand.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (Lillian @ Oct 17, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) The Red Sox already have two southpaws in their rotation, with Price and Rodriguez. It would be historically unprecedented for them to have 3 left starters. The presence of the short left field "Green Monster" has always dictated that their rotation be primarily right handed. Therefore, while they have they pieces to trade for a top of the rotation starter, I don't see how they would target Sale. What am I missing here? Hands don't matter when you're tlaking about one of the best 5 pitchers in the world. Plus, I think it is pretty likely that Rodriguez would come to the Sox in a Sale deal.

Chris Getz to take over player development
A lot of overreactions in this thread. The dude had just over 400 PAs with the White Sox and hasn't been a part of the organization since 2009. He has experience with another FO (and a well respected one), and was always well respected as a player. I wouldn't have minded someone with a bit more experience, but I don't really consider this a "White Sox" move.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 11:25 PM) I think MLBTR was just naming pieces that they felt would be expendable for Boston, not naming the entire package, or one they feel is fair. This isn't a shot at you (I am sure you agree), but you don't trade Chris Sale for "expendable" pieces. If Chris gets traded, the team that trades for him is going to think they got hosed. That is the type of deal the Sox need, or no Chris Sale for you.

White Sox Coaching Staff Changes
QUOTE (RegionSox @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 10:03 AM) So why would the director of player development move to third base coach? Seems very puzzling. He has managed in the minors.

White Sox Coaching Staff Changes
Title is wrong. Capra is new 3B coach. Hasler is new bullpen coach.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 01:08 PM) Guys. I'm just afraid these threads are setting us all up for disappointment. Probably, but oh well. It makes too much sense. One of the best pitchers in baseball paid 1/3 of what he'd get on open market for THREE years. Sellers market. FA pool sucks. Teams with most to offer all get knocked out the playoffs early. The Sox have the power here to start a hell of a bidding war.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) Not for that offer above you wouldn't. Moncada AND Benintendi AND Kopech AND more? I definitely want Devers too if we're giving up Nate. Nate is an extremely valuable trade chip in his own right. Just look at what the Phillies got for Ken Giles. Giles is a little cheaper, but Nate is locked up for the next five years on a great deal. He's no throw in. Moncada, Benintendi, Kopech, Devers and Rodridguez for Sale and Jones, sure. But I'd want those last two. Not saying I wouldn't come off that request if it was the difference between getting the deal done and not. IMO, I want those five for Sale alone and that'd be my starting point. When they balk, I include Melky. If that doesn't excite them, only then do I offer Nate.

QUOTE (striker @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) If I'm Boston, I'm asking for Nate Jones instead of Melky And I am telling them to go pound sand.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 11:26 PM) Just curious, does anyone else besides me feel like the Sox could compete next season just by unloading Quintana and Robertson for some young major league talent? Let's say...Quintana to Red Sox for Benintendi, Shaw, Groome, Kopech. And also....Roberston to Giants for Joe Panik Sox go out and sign Rich Hill and Lucroy Rotation is.... Sale Hill Rodon Gonzalez Shields/Fulmer Lineup is.... SS Anderson RF Eaton DH Abreu C Lucroy 3B Frazier LF Melky CF Benintendi 1B Shaw 2B Panik Saladino and Lawrie are your backup IF. Or maybe you even give the Giants one of those two along with Robertson until Christian Arroyo is ready to come up for them. Narvaez is your backup catcher. Nate Jones becomes your closer, and you obviously sign a couple MR in there to replace deadweights like Albers. I think that team is certainly better in 2017, even though you lost Quintana and Robertson. Lucroy is not a FA. His option is about as no brainer as they get.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 11:03 PM) If you could get Moncada, Benintendi, Kopech and Swihart for Sale and Melky, do you do it? I'd push for Devers too, but yah, I wouldn't be outraged if this happened.

Bit of a long shot here, but looking to fill final 2 spots in a $100 fantasy NBA league on yahoo. All payments via paypal. Can provide references to managers who have played in my leagues before/currently. Always make payouts day after season ends. Experienced commish who has run a bunch of leagues for a bunch of different sports. Basic settings are 10 teams, H2H scoring. Draft Sunday Oct 23 and 8PM CT. PM for more details. Thanks! I apologize in advance if this is the wrong place to post this or if it is not allowed. Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) FWIW: Boston/Providence paper and talk media are pretty consistent today. Red Sox priorities in order: 1. DH-Bullpen( esp.lefty) and 3B. Most figure bullpen via trade and DH and 3B in house 2. Alex Speier who is one of their prime reporters said they have 6 starters signed for next year. "This may be an offseason defined more by subtle changes rather than fundamental ones. In the rotation, the team retains control over its six primary starters this year – David Price, Rick Porcello, Eduardo Rodriguez, Drew Pomeranz, Steven Wright, and Clay Buchholz (whose $13.5 million option represents almost a no-brainer given its short term and the righthander’s solid performance down the stretch). Will the Red Sox explore the trade market to see if the White Sox are inclined to deal Chris Sale or Jose Quintana? Certainly, but in a thin market where the prospect cost of starters is likely to be exorbitant, the team may also stay the course. " https://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/redsox/2...fLwI/story.html At least he knows the price.

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) The italicized isn't a thing. Unless you're a star on a s***ty team you just play within yourself. I am not sure why JBJ would be subjected to some immense amount of pressure on a team where the barriers to be of the best are low and the amount of people watching are of the least. I think he moreso meant that JBJ wouldn't have nearly as much protection in the WS lineup. In Boston's lineup, he was sort of an after thought and probably saw a lot of great pitches. That wouldn't be the case with the Sox, especially if Melky and Todd are moved in a larger rebuild.
