Tony Campana tears ACL, out for 2015 season
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 05:30 PM) Bourjos has had a much better MLB career though, mostly with the Angels and Cards. Campana's barely had a cup of coffee. I'm aware. Hence why I knew it wasn't him - just knew they were similar players and he name was escaping me.

Tony Campana tears ACL, out for 2015 season
I was trying to think of htis guy the other day and I couldn't remember his name. For some reason kept thinking Peter Bourjos, but i knew that wasn't right. Just the other skinny fast guy who plays CF.

Matt Davidson getting called up
QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 12:46 PM) Davidson getting thrown right into the fire. I have a strong feeling that he takes Milone deep this afternoon. Also, Purke needs to be DFA'd. Dude is a bum with underwhelming stuff and no ability to locate his pitches. No reason to DFA a guy you can option.

Rick Hahn
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 01:14 AM) Congrats to Rick Hahn for providing Robin Ventura one of the worst bullpens (minus the back end of Jones and Robertson) in recent Sox memory...at least back to 2007. 2014, if you want to go there...but nothing was expected of that team, at all. That's what happens when you lose 2 mainstays in the pen to injury, plus another guy who was supposed to contribute. Hard to recover from that without making trades or getting lucky.

Matt Davidson getting called up
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 30, 2016 -> 01:33 AM) OK get rid of Lawrie and it'll be Davidson at third, Anderson at short, Saladino at second and Frazier DH. That's a start. Saladino and Davidson and Anderson have a fighting chance. Duuuude. Figure it out.

Blow It Up
QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 03:51 PM) The Sox have a nice easy patch in their schedule coming up but I think they should seriously be navigating the trade market as sellers and getting a feel of the trade value of guys like Robertson, Melky and even Quintana, who I would only move if I'm getting an elite prospect back in any package. If the Sox are smart and take their lumps for two seasons they can really improve the trajectory of the franchise for the better. But would Jerry want to do that? No chance the Sox sell unless they drop over 6-7 games below .500 in the next several weeks leading up to the deadline.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 01:18 PM) Abreu did not count towards the international signing limits due to service time already incurred in Cuba, that is correct. Alexei was signed before those were implemented, but the same thing probably would have happened to him. If Viciedo had been signed for that contract after the CBA that instituted the international limits, his contract would have blown past the limits and incurred a next year penalty. So I was right.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 12:26 PM) How did guys like Abreu, Alexei and viciedo fit into this? I am certainly not an expert on this and someone can probably answer with more certainty, but I am nearly positive that Abreu and Alexei were past the age cut off to be a part of the international spending restrictions. As for Viciedo, I think he was signed before the latest changes to international signings which instituted the restrictions and subsequent penalties if going over, IIRC. Same deal with Alexei, even if he was subject to the restrictions (still think he was past age cut off), it was before these new rules were enacted.

The White Sox Hidden Catastrophe-Fangraphs
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 01:10 PM) Perhaps you are correct, in asserting that the Brewers wouldn't give up Lucroy without asking for a ransom. However, they may be willing to indeed move Braun for not much more than salary relief. According to an article in today's MLB Traderumors, by Steve Adams, they might want to move Braun's salary in order to achieve the financial flexibility to try to resign Lucroy. Here is what he wrote: "While Jonathan Lucroy is perhaps the most-cited trade candidate in baseball, GM David Stearns tells Heyman that an extension can’t be entirely ruled out. Heyman notes that if the Brewers are able to move Ryan Braun, they could look to reallocate some of those funds to locking up Lucroy, who is more open to an extension now that the Brewers are performing better than most pundits expected. There could, of course, be some level of gamesmanship there, as it would make sense for any team official to downplay a prime trade target’s availability." Would you be in favor of taking on all of Braun's contract, if it didn't require giving up any significant talent? Sure, but I doubt it'll happen.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 12:48 PM) I'm not going to dispute that, but I wonder on what you base your assertion. It was my understanding that the Brewers are very desirous of moving Braun's salary. How can they expect to accomplish that, and still get a couple of top prospects? Lucroy alone is probably worth at least of one Fulmer or Anderson (plus some) - I am sure that the Brewers would ask for both. And the Brewers aren't just going to give Braun away for salary relief.

The White Sox Hidden Catastrophe-Fangraphs
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jun 24, 2016 -> 11:48 AM) It may not take that much in talent, as Lucroy will be a free agent after next season, and the Brewers are reportedly shopping him. However, they would want young talent in return. The key may be that they are eager to move Braun's salary. I've been advocating taking both of them, and all of the salary, which could mitigate the need to give up much talent. Although Braun would be an overpay, and a long term commitment, Lucroy's very affordable contract would make a package of both very intriguing. You put Braun in the outfield, Lucroy behind the plate and Morneau at DH and you have transformed this anemic offense into an impressive lineup. Braun and Lucroy would require Fulmer and Anderson, plus. It ain't happening.

While I agree the Sox catchers have been pretty terrible, its a funny day to post this after Avila goes 4/5. At least his bat is coming around - man was he terrible the first 2 months of the year.

QUOTE (bjm676 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) Matt Purke and Chris Beck should be well rested for today's game. Crazy, but Matt Purke has not appeared in a game the Sox have won. 8 appearances, 8 losses.

Time to Trade Chris Sale?
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 01:59 PM) Is there a stat out there that shows the team win/loss record for a particular pitcher's start? Like say a pitcher made 33 starts in a season. What was the team's win/loss record for those 33 games? Or is that something you would have to calculate by hand? I'm just curious how that stat would look for Quintana compared to other top-tier starters. Yes.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Rodriguez was the prospect Boston got back in the late season deal of Andrew Miller to Orioles a few years ago. Very talented but can be good or bad. Former top 50 guy, IIRC.

Avisail Garcia ® DH 9. J.B. Shuck (L) CF Anyone know what Bourgeois defense is like in CF? Obviously he is not a long term solution, but I wouldn't mind throwing him out there and seeing how he does right now. Seems to fit the roster better than Coats at this given moment.

Time to Trade Chris Sale?
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 02:51 PM) I agree. I dropped it without comment, but it was pointless. I will say, give Sale enough time, he'll always say something on the dumb side, or cringeworthy. Not sure if it's what you're insinuating, but I don't think Sale said anything dumb in that article. The man wants to pitch in the playoffs. Can you blame him? I want to watch him pitch in the playoffs. It'd be a thing of beauty. Think Bumgarner last year but even more dominant. I hope he gets that opportunity in a Sox uni.

That's a pretty bad list. Over half of the negatives weren't really negatives at all, were washes, or were just overall meh moves for very little $. Also several moves the jury is still out. Besides Semien, he hasn't given up much talent, and I happen to think Trayce will coming crashing back to earth before too long.

Time to Trade Chris Sale?
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) As in, the actual Cy Young award voted on by the people who have votes that count, or another Cy Young award winner? Because there would be no way he would win the actual Cy Young if the season ended now. Meh. He'd be close. Top 3 or 4 in voting for sure. The lack of wins doesn't help, but if he were 8-2 or something, he would definitely be the leader in the clubhouse.

Blow It Up
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) Definitely Rodon and Anderson. And I'd probably add Quintana to that list. He's very cheap for a #2 and under team control through 2020. He's also under-valued to the point where I don't think that trading him would net a fair return. I wouldn't say that Eaton is untouchable, but I'd strongly prefer to build around him and a GM would really have to overwhelm me to get him. Jose Quintana is a #1 on most teams.
