  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 07:18 AM) Not to be a dick, but I think The Dark Knight Rises is a bad Batman movie and easily the worst one in the new trilogy. TDKR is not only the best Batman film, but its one of the best movies of the decade and to come out in recent memory. The film got a lukewarm reception because after TDK came out in 2008 people sarted writing the sequel in their head (I am scared that Episode 8 is going to suffer a similar fate) and when TDKR came out and it was not what they imagined, people were disappointed. When you criticize something, especially art you are supposed to judge on what it is, you never judge something on what its not it what you wanted it to be. Another thing that turned people away from the movie was the Aurora incident. TDKR is a better film than TDK, but when you compare the two you have to remember that they are very different movies. BB is an adventure movie, TDK is a crime thriller, while TDKR is a post apocalyptic war film. I could go on but TDKR is just better.
  2. The best case scenario for the Sox is that Lazarito is attached to the 2016 class, but it may be a pretty penny to sign him. He already has an offer from a Japanese team for about $12M I believe.
  3. What are your favorite movies of all time? List your top 15 (I imagine narrowing it down to ten would be too difficult for a lot of people) and if you want talk about why you enjoy them. Here's my list: 1. Citizen Kane 2. The Tree of Life 3. Star Wars (Empire is the best film) 4. The Dark Knight Trilogy (Rises is the best film) 5. The Godfather Pt. 2 6. Lawrence of Arabia 7. 2001: A Space Odyssey 8. Seven Samurai 9. There Will Be Blood 10. Terminator 2 11. Blade Runner 12. Raiders of the Lost Ark 13. Alien 14. Heat 15. Collateral
  4. Lovie Smith was just fired as HC of the Bucs.
  5. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 28, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) More mocks because, I'm bored I guess. This one has Rutherford to the Sox: http://www.fueledbysports.com/2016-mlb-mock-draft/ This one stayed the same with the Sox picking Okey: http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft Rutherford at 10 would be a steal, should be a top five pick. I like Delvin Perez, been trying to read up on him. I am also trying to look up info on prep catchers because the college class is pretty weak. I think you should always draft best player available, but I think that you should always. always, always draft/sign multiple catchers (if the pick/INTL prospect is there), a la the NFL QB philosophy. Catcher is by far the weakest position in the sport and it is so hard to find a quality starting caliber catcher, by drafting multiple catchers you simply improve your chances of finding a diamond in the rough.
  6. The Royals re-signing Gordon, prevents the Sox from making a huge mistake. Gordon is in the decline of his career and not worth a comp pick. MLB Network just said that Hosmer, Cain and Moustakas are all free agents in 2017. Their run could be ending.
  7. It is being reported that Alex Gordon and the Royals have reached an agreement on a new contract. It was reported by a writer from MLB.com, an official announcement is expected to be made later today. EDIT: I was too late.
  8. Back to this conversation: Why Jackie Brown is better than Pulp Fiction. Jackie Brown has what was good about Pulp Fiction, just a little more of it. Pam Grier's performance in Jackie Brown is better than anyone in Pulp Fiction by a long shot. Jackie Brown also has the better supporting cast, in both terms of talent and performance. The film takes everything great about blaxploitation films and culture and gives it depth and resonance. You can call Jackie Brown a expose about the undying spirit and resolve of the black woman in America and it talks about what black women have to do to get ahead. As an African American man who was raised by black women and has sisters have have had to overcome a lot to get where they are, QT nailed it. Pam Grier's Jackie Brown remains Tarantino's best female character ever. The soundtrack is probably the best in any Tarantino film, it starts with 110th Street by Bobby Womack and it really sets the tones. The relationship between Jackie Brown and Max Cherry is the best relationship in any of QT's films. Despite being a great crime thriller, it's a great love story as well. Tarantino was able to take the work of Elmore Leonard and completely put his stamp on the material. When I read Rum Punch now, it's hard not to read it through Tarantino's filter. That's the mark of a great adaptation. Jackie Brown is also the most confident Tarantino film, it's not overtly stylish or flashy, it simply relies on the story and the characters. Whereas Pulp Fiction relies on its non-linear narrative and zainy pop culture references. Jackie Brown is his most 'mature' film to date.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 08:53 AM) Baseball America has it as: 1. Tim Anderson SS 2. Carson Fulmer RHP 3. Spencer Adams RHP 4. Trey Michalczewski 3B 5. Jacob May CF 6. Tyler Danish RHP 7. Adam Engel OF 8. Jordan Guerrero LHP 9. Courtney Hawkins OF 10. Corey Zangari 1B I think the Sox farm ranks in tat 25-30 range and if they want to compete while simultaneously building for long term sucess, then that has to improve. Keeping their comp pick would help that cause.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) I'm glad Adolfo isn't on the list. Players shouldn't be on lists unless they've played in college or full season minor league ball. Prove you're a baseball player first, and don't just look good in a uniform. Same for Zangari. I've seen high school kids do really well in Rookie ball, they go to low-A, and are never heard from again. Completely disagree, plus I think that if you asked Sox brass where to rank Adolfo they would have him in the top ten. And Micker has played a full season of ball the year before last.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 4, 2016 -> 07:33 PM) Yearly hitting min-camp that yields great results every season. It actually does... Well not great progress but since Severson has been the hitting coach and has been doing this yearly mini-camp, the overall crop of position players down in the farm has been performing as well as they have been in a long time. It won't be too long till we get to see some of the players who worked in this camp reach the majors (Tim Anderson, here's to you).
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 2, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) I forgot Me, Earl...that was great, too. It Follows deserves consideration as the best horror film...Black Mass...and another Edgerton film, The Gift. Tangerine, I started and couldn't get into. Critics love Chi-Raq but it wasn't half the impact of Do The Right Thing to me. Maybe not a Nick Cannon fan...preferred him in Drumline. Angela Bassett was the saving grace, and Samuel Jackson's riffs. Man, I thought It Follows came out in 2014 fm for some reason. I saw it when it came out and that was forever ago.
  13. 2015 List (No particular order): Star Wars Ex Machina Mad Max Me, Earl and the Dying Girl The Revenant The Hateful 8 Carol Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation Dope Sicario The End of the Tour James White They Look Like Us Bridge of Spies Creed Straight Out Of Compton Tangerine Love It Follows The best movie of the year was Star Wars. The most disappointing movie was The Martian I haven't see. Spotlight and the majority of the Big Short. Edited to add: Love and It Follows
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 31, 2015 -> 01:11 PM) How the f*** can anyone think Jackie Brown is better than Pulp Fiction? I get we all have different tastes, but I can't even see an argument being made in this particular case. 15. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 04:23 PM) It's been on the schedule for Jan 4 for awhile. Hope it doesn't change And I like JB but in no way shape or form is it better than Pulp. It maybe more rewatch able than Basterds but still prefer that to JB. I wasn't a Django fan. Need to rewatch sometime maybe I could go into more depth on why I think this is better than and and why I think it's his best but I don't want to spoil the film. To each their own.
  16. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 12:15 PM) Going to disagree. Pulp Fiction remains his Magnum Opus...and Hateful Eight is awesome -- if you like overly drawn out boring movies with sprinkles of bloody action in-between. I disagree with that. I think Jackie Brown is better than Pulp Fiction, even Inglorious and Django. Tarantino always said that he views himself as a writer before anything else. Hateful Eight is a writing masterclass from Tarantino. This felt very much like a play, kinda like Tarantino doing his best Shakespeare imitation.
  17. QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 30, 2015 -> 08:38 AM) Gonna head to Music Box for first time for Hateful 8 next week. Looking forward to it but I'd be shocked if it's better than Pulp, KB2, or Dogs. Would b sweet if it is. It is his best and it might be out of the Music Box next week.
  18. Tarantino has a new Magnus Opus. Just saw H8tful in 70mm, it was amazing.
  19. http://variety.com/2015/film/news/chistoph...ie-1201662561/A The main characters of this film are young adults/teenagers and they'll be surrounded by an established supporting cast (Hardy, Rylance and Branagh) and it will be shot on both IMAX 15/70mm and 65mm. I'm willing to bet that there is more to the film than what the studio has let out and that this is more than a straight up war film, but Nolan doing a "War Epic Action Thriller" on large format film is more than a straight up war film.
  20. One of the best contracts in all of baseball. Think about this; If Chris Davis is worth $21.4M (In the eyes of the Orioles at least), how much is Jose Abreu worth?
  21. Starting this spring all the major studios will starting looking at applicants for entry level positions and internships. Just go to the studio's website and head to the career page and information should be there, if not give it some time. I know that Warner Bros. has info up already. And if you know anyone that would be interested and that person is a minority (including LGBTQ) tell them to look up production companies, call them and ask them about diversity programs, the studios should have some as well but this is Hollywood, so I would not be surprised if they didn't.
  22. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 24, 2015 -> 05:48 PM) This isn't correct. San Diego will have 2 picks (Upton, Kennedy) in front of White Sox. Sox currently sit at #29 with Murphy signing. Iwakuma going back to Seattle didn't help. No, the Sox as of this point in time have 27th pick in the draft. And it should get higher as more players sign.
