  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 11:04 PM) Great post. Made me laugh out loud. I actually was thinking I wouldn't mind seeing Frazier in a Sox uniform. It's risky acquiring NL guys but would they take Eaton/Rodon and a Class A guy? We got Trayce to take over for Eaton. I am not trading Rodon unless I am getting a young, cost controlled, stud position player back.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 02:57 PM) I don't get overly upset because it's a movie, but... that change dramatically altered the tone of the scene. It undercuts the potrayal of a key character. It changes the landscape, and Lucas' recent excuse for it (that he saw Solo as a John Wayne type) was bizarre (much like the rest of what he's done as his career has gone on). I saw '97 version first but when I see that version of the scene, I get that this is a badass space pirate and I think that scene is meant to show the audience not only how badass Han is but how shady the world that he operates in is. When I see the original version of the scene I come to the same conclusion. Han is a badass and he operates in a really shady business (like any other drug dealer). For me, it dose not change his portrayal, the landscape or his character's arc. You can't really say that Lucas is wrong, this comes from his imagination and he can do whatever he sees fits. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:49 PM) "Upset" is a little strong. It's just silly. 1) Han's not really on a redemption arc anymore because apparently he was never a gray character. Instead of killing someone to save his ass, it's self defense. 2) An experienced bounty hunter missing at point blank range is far-fetched. 3) There was no mention of Greedo firing in drafts of the original script, so why is Lucas denying it was ever written that way? It's just weird. I don't get any of that.
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 10:06 PM) So, if we trade for Frazier and sign Upton? You'd still want to sell with all that money coming off the books the next year? I don't want them anywhere near the team. Todd Frazier is not worth Tim Anderson or Carson Fulmer in my opinion and Justin Upton is not worth giving up having three draft picks in the top 48. If you want an outfield bat, go get Cespedes, since he has no QO attached.
  4. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 06:57 PM) This discussion of the re-releases reminds me: Greedo shot first is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen! Why does it matter? The changing of that little detail did nothing to alter the tone or purpose of the scene. I never got why people were so upset.
  5. For the people that signed up for the advanced movie screenings, did anyone go see In The Heart Of The Sea on the 8th? I just saw the tickets in my email and wondered if anyone went.
  6. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:49 PM) We have a lot more moves to make before we know anything That is true but the 2016 team is starting to take shape.
  7. Had a conversation with a friend of mine and we came to conclusion that the Sox should be sellers no matter what happens this year. They have about $32M+ coming off the books after the season and they should take the upcoming season to acquire as much talent as possible because they can set themselves up to be competitive in the short term, while acquiring long term pieces for the future. They seriously need to consider trading guys like Sale, Quintana, Abreu and Eaton. I really want to see a full year of Trayce Thompson, I hope he plays CF and Eaton moves to left. On the pitching side of things, I really want to see Dan Jennings take the next step, if he hones in on his control, he could be special.
  8. Now that the Sox are making moves and we have a better look at the team that is going to take the field, what do you guys think about the upcoming season? What kind of year is it going to be for the Sox, who needs to step up and who is fighting for their job? This doesn't need to focus on just the players but this conversation could apply to the coaching staff and the people in the front office.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 03:57 PM) You would think they would be if the Sox let it known that he were available. I think since we haven't heard of interest from a team like Pit, you know that Sox really aren't looking to make a deal involving Q. He is the perfect pitcher for that park. A lefty who pitches to contact, he can get ground balls and look at the defense behind him. Plus, he can be that perfect compliment to Cole and most importantly, he is young and dirt cheap. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 04:03 PM) I don't think Pitt has the ammo to make a Quintana deal with them worthwhile. Yeah they do. Glasnow, Meadows, McGuire, Tucker, Bell, just to name a few. The Pirates have one of the best farms in all of baseball
  10. Good move for the Sox, they gave up nothing and bought really low on Lawrie. I think that he hits better playing half his games in the Cell.
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 01:53 PM) Houston would certainly be interested. Quintana is the type of player that Pittsburgh covets and needs, its amazing that thye have not been attached to him
  12. For the second time in 6 months, the Braves have fleeced the Dbacks. Really like what John Hart and co. are doing in Atlanta
  13. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) Man I don't want CarGo to go to the Cubs I hope he doesn't come to the Sox.
  14. Surprising lack of 'typical Sox' bulls***.
  15. If the price is right then I approve of this deal but I wonder about him in the clubhouse. The guy is kind of an asshole. IF the Sox do acquire him and it seems inevitable, then they need a leader in that clubhouse to put Lawrie in his place when the time comes.
  16. QUOTE (spiderman @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 08:40 PM) I'm probably one of the few, but I'm not opposed to the White Sox staying quiet(er) in free agency. My #1 focus continues to be rebuilding the minor league system and rebuilding it back. Having 3 draft picks in the first 50 or so picks is a good start, but they need to keep these picks and not be tempted on a free agent. Completely agree, they need to make that their top priority. This draft could be huge for the system and along with J2 and the trade deadline, the system could be infused with some major talent.
  17. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Dec 8, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) Are all IMAX theaters in 3D? I would like to see this on a huge screen, but I don't want to see it in 3D. If you're able, do everything you can to go to a native IMAX and not the retrofitted ones that you find in AMC's. The screen is bigger, the sound system is better and native IMAX's use a film projection system as opposed to digital so the IMAX is not only going to be better but what the filmmakers intended.

    2015 TV Thread

I gave up on the Leftovers after the second episode after the second season. I plan on giving it another shot soon.
  19. The first movie that I ever saw in a theater was A New Hope. I was about 4 or 5 when it was re-released. I grew up in Streamwood and there was a Loews Theater right by my house. My mom had seen the originals when they first came out but she didn't call herself a fan and my older sister had seen them before and this was also her first time seeing the originals in the theater. I remember my mom getting off of work and picking me and my sister up and taking us to the theater. I still have the ticket stubs from that day. It remains the most powerful experience that I ever had in a movie theater. Me and my family always stay through the entire credits when we go see a movie, usually to see how many Joshua's, Dominica's, Nina's, Patricia's and people with the last name Strong we can find. When George Lucas's name popped up, I asked my mom what is a screenwriter and a director and she not only told me what titles were but she explained to me how movies are made and ever since that moment, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. We saw the rest of OT with my entire family, Empire really grabbed me as a kid. I always liked how dark it was compared to ANH and it remains my favorite from the series. And I will never forget sitting down in the theater watching Luke and Vader fight on Cloud City. And My mom turned around and looked at me the entire time, I didn't know why at the time obviously but she wanted to see my reaction to the big reveal. And I remember the sense of shock I felt, I thought that Obi Wan was Luke's father. I was even more shocked (and maybe a little disappointed) when I saw that Darth Vader was some white guy in ROTJ.
  20. QUOTE (daggins @ Dec 7, 2015 -> 06:40 PM) Preller is on a short leash this year, so things are going to be less crazy. The Dodgers are definitely making a splash though. It's his second year as GM. I don't think he's on a short leash
  21. With Renteria in the mix, I guarantee that the Sox's defense will improve.
  22. I would imagine that Dodgers would be looking at Quintana. If I'm Rick Someone and the Dodgers won't pony up Seager then there's no deal
