GAMETHREAD 4/10/22: Sox vs Tigers (Kopech vs Skubal) 12:10 pm CDT
I listened to the game on the radio but I just finished watching it in full and that moment in the top of the fifth where Eloy runs into Robert is completely unacceptable. I’m shocked that he was allowed to stay in the game with such a big lead. They need to bench him for the home opener or something, there’s a long pattern of this. He could’ve cost the Sox their season. He’s a nice guy and he’ll be a good player for a long time but he’s dumb.

Lance Lynn has slight tendon tear, 4 weeks no throwing off mound
I’m sure he did but if the Sox want to win it all, then it might not have a choice.

Maybe this shines a light on the lack of system wide pitching development, if the window of contention is going to stay open for a long time, they need to get better at developing pitchers. It’ll make it easier to sustain stuff like this.

Sign Matt Harvey now. He was pretty serviceable last season.

Really hoping for Tyler Anderson for the Sox. He’ll be a quality innings eater for them

If Justin Crawford isn’t the pick, I’ll be disappointed. He’s the type of the player the Sox really need. An athlete, who plays up the middle and has baseball ability

Your Top 20 Sox Prospects
I know they changed the pitching development staff recently but they might need to go outside of the org to get someone to oversee system wide pitching development alongside Ethan Katz, who should be writing the system wide plan.

I think there’s a serious pitching development problem. Who’s the last arm that the Sox drafted and developed into a serviceable starting pitcher? Rodon? He was drafted in 2014 and was a top 3 pick. It’ll be hard to screw that up. Crochet could be that guy but I don’t trust LaRussa to stretch him out. This is a serious problem. I’ve been told that the Sox don’t draft pitchers who don’t land straight to the plate. Their reasoning is that you can’t teach it. Something has to change here.

The MLB lockout is lifted!
I’m curious about the trading of draft picks/bonus pool space. That’s something that I want to see included, I think it’ll add more intrigue to the league.

Baseball America Top 30 (Actually, 40)
The Hostetler draft strategy wasn’t the best but I get the logic in it, especially in 2016 and 2017. He wanted to rebuild the floor of the organization by adding low ceiling/high floor college types but that’s how you end up 1B/DH types and a singles hitting second baseman. I think the Sox are in better shape with Shirley. I’m a fan of drafting athletes, prep guys and dudes with the absolute highest ceilings because that’s how you find superstars. Shirley said himself that his philosophy echoes that. The next draft for the Sox is crucial. I remember Kevin Goldenstein writing that it takes 3 years to really build up a farm system. The Sox are in year two of that process. They could greatly use more up the middle guys and athletes. About the actual list, I would rank Colas in the top 3. I would rank Hernandez in the top 15. I’m big on Luna, so I might rank him higher here but not by much. I think Colson will be in the top 100 by next year.
