It's not good from a Sox perspective. I don't think they need a SS. Freeman, Gausman, Bryant and Stroman probably stay put. Are there any quality second baseman on the market? It doesn't look like it. (I imagine Semien moves back to SS if he leaves Toronto)

The FA pool isn’t very good. Its looking like the Sox have to go the trade route if they want to make some serious acquisitions.

When the Sox pay up for free agents, they typically perform as expected. Their problem has been when they try to take fliers and find “bargains”. I don’t think that was a Hahn problem, I think that had a lot to do with the Sox pro scouting, which for a long period of time was horrendous. They seemed to have gotten better in that department since Nick Hostetler has taken over that post.

If I’m running the team, I’d make both Sheets and Burger available in trade talks. Vaughn too but it would take a lot for me to move him. The Sox need to get more flexible with guys who can play multiple positions, especially guys who can fill in up the middle. It’s the weakest part of the org in my opinion.

I would love it if the Sox were able to get David Fletcher from LAA to be their second baseman. He had a massive slump this year but I think he'd be a great fit on the Sox. Bat him ninth and watch him get on base.

The team needs to get more left handed to have a better chance against the tougher righties that they face. They need to get better defensively and they need to acquire more OBP guys.

The Sox are not a mid market team, stop buying into that crap. How is Machado a prima Donna? The Dodgers traded for Machado because they were trying to win a Championship. History shows that renting superstars is always a worthwhile investment for the buying team. Again, he was never a long term match for them with Seaver, Turner and Taylor. Also the Dodgers have largely avoided massive contracts under Friedman. Betts is the only one, they’ve handed out. I’m not sure that they’ll pay Seager this winter.
