  1. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 06:55 PM) This organization has lost the benefit of the doubt. So that's an excuse to act... irrationally?
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 06:30 PM) Well that's a bit unfair, don't you think? I don't think it is but I definitely thinks this unfair to criticize a move and it's process, when you don't know the happenings behind the scenes. If you think this is a bad move, please name me someone who you would like instead.
  3. While he is a former Sox player, he has experience outside org and is definitely new blood for the org. If you can name a better person for the job, please do.

Saw La La Land last night and it's instantly one of my all time favorite movies. I'm a big fan of musicals, movies with elaborate sets and costumes and my mom and sisters are all lifelong dancers, needless to say that I was in heaven. When I heard that the film was going to be a modern day and realistic take of song dance movies, I was excited but kind of skeptical but this film really pulled it over, while avoiding every possible cliche. The movie is a love story but its more about the role that love plays in the lives of people who are 'going for it'. And it ask if you can have have love in the pursuit of accomplishing your greatest dreams and desires. There are some really memorials scenes and numbers but my personal favorite was the one where Emma Stone and her roommates get ready to go out. The cinematography was amazing with an awesome color palette. It's no secret that Emma Stone is super pale, so I love that she was always in dark spaces and wearing colors that popped on her and played well on her complexion. The costumes were all sharp and had a lot of detail, from the dresses to the suits. The editing was great too, I don't know how they edited the opening number, I get a headache think I about it. Also it was shot on film, so bonus points. I'm a big, big fan of Ryan Gosling but it always bothered me that he shies away from 'typical leading man' type career moves, hopefully with this and the upcoming Blade Runner sequel, he starts to embrace that leading man status. People were talking about the film's Oscar chances and a lot of people brought him up. He was really great in the film and probably his best work. I think Damien Chazelle is making a Neil Armstrong biopic next, I love that each project of his is so radically different from the last.
  5. I like that McEwing is back, people speak very highly of him and to have him in a bigger role should make the Sox better in the dugout. Was hoping for new blood from outside the org but I'll take it.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 14, 2016 -> 10:58 AM) This organization is a joke I think Severson is a good hitting coach. Look at what he's had to work with and look at how better guys in the minors are doing.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 06:01 AM) My Chinese hs students are smart enough to like Deadpool a helluva lot more than SS. Warcraft, that's because of the popularity of the game. Pacific Rim, that's another story. I don't get what point you're trying to make. Suicide Squad easily crosses a billion dollars if it was in China. My point was it is the biggest hit of the summer, not in terms of dollar but in longevity and it's still playing in theaters. I wouldn't say that Deadpool is better than SS or that SS is better than Deadpool, I have similar opinions on both films.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 01:21 PM) This looks pretty good: I can not watch this trailer and not feel bad for Keanu Reeves.

I saw The Accountant last night and holy s*** it was great. I would describe it as a more action packed, more traditional and less stylized Drive. Some of the best action scene that I have seen in a while and Ben Affleck gives a great performance as the autistic Accountant. It's cool seeing Commissioner Gordon go after the Batman for once. I don't know if it's top ten but it's definitely top fifteen movies of the year for me. ********************** It turns out Devin Faraci has sexually assaulted some women and has stepped down from his post of EIC at Birth Movies Death. He wrote an article earlier this year, accusing a certain filmmaker of being a myisognist and hater of all things feminine. The irony. ********************** Come see me at the film festival doing stuff. You can see La La Land 2 months early.
  10. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 01:34 AM) You mean from the movie? That would be cool. Not to get in to details of episode 2 yet, but I really do enjoy Jimmie Simpson. He was really good in Breakout Kings and always reminds me of a young James Spader. Not from the movie. I meant the original guest in the show, he was the first person to attend/test the park. Really want to know about his life outside the park.
  11. I love how WestWorld took the two characters from the original film and brought them into the show. I loved the scene with William and the host in the dressing room (the actress playing that host was Tom Hardy's female gambit in Inception, another Nolan project) and the concept of white and black hats, very cool stuff. Reminds me of role playing games. Loved the line about being able to real the difference between the guest and host, real Blade Runner stuff.
  12. I love that Cooper calls out the fans, it shows that he cares about the org.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) This list doesn't look too good, but you never know. Sale was picked 13th after all. Hopefully the Sox target a bat with their first pick if at all possible. No, I hope it's the best player available.
  14. WestWorld is amazing. I love how Dolores reacts to the fly, you can see it in her eyes and her face when the fly lands on her. The Man in Black is an amazing character, I think he was the original guest at the park.
  15. I want them to take their time with Collins but I think they have to move him from behind the plate and just focus on the bat
  16. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 09:34 PM) Can't wait to discuss some names in the coming months. Hopefully we got a good prospect to fall to us due to some teams reaching on players or not wanting to risk trying to sign some of these guys. Thats bound to happen and we're already on it at Reddit.
  17. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 09:35 PM) Why are they tuning him out then? That seems like a new rumor to me. Just curious. I am not in the clubhouse but I haven't heard that they were tuning him out anywhere. But the results are there and in his favor.
  18. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 09:31 PM) So what are some replacements for Stevenson? One could be Raul Ibanez. They loved him in KC IIRC. He'd be a great guy to have on the staff. Has also been linked to some managerial jobs
  19. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 07:15 PM) I'd love to hear that case be made. If anything, I'd rather have Sparks be promoted. Read a few positive things about the way Sparks worked with Abreu and a few other guys. Look at Sox prospects/young players (position players) before Severson got here and after he got here. Guys like Anderson, Thompson. Look at how Eaton has gotten better each year under him and look at the minors and how better position players are doing here.
  20. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) The org., not the manager, picks the pitching and hitting coaches. Steverson doesn't seem like a bad coach to me. But if they aren't listening to him, whether his fault or not, I suppose they have to look elsewhere. Severson was brought in to implement a org wide system. Look at how much White Sox prospects have been doing at the plate, look at Tim Anderson for example. Severson deserves credit for that.
  21. The Sox have the top pick in the 2017 MLB Draft after finishing the season with a record of 78-84. The last ten players picked with the 12th overall pick: 2016: Jason Groome 2015: Josh Naylor 2014: Kodi Medeiros 2013: DJ Peterson 2012: Gavin Cecchini 2011: Taylor Jungmann 2010: Yasmani Grandal 2009: Aaron Crow 2008: Jemile Weeks 2007: Matt Dominguez
  22. I think that McEwing is gone and that he goes to another team that is currently cast in a better light (like the Braves) as a Bench Coach. With the exception of Coop, I do want to see new blood in the dugout but a case is to be made for Severson.
  23. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 2, 2016 -> 08:09 PM) The yearly off season plan thread has begun. I'll give my thoughts on the off season and all of you come up with your off season plan for our beloved White Sox. I for one are all in on a rebuild, so I will base my off season off that. Manager: Rick Renteria Free Agent Signings: 3B Luis Valbuena 1 year/5 million CF Carlos Gomez 1 year/7 million SP Ivan Nova 1 year/5 million Trades: SP Chris Sale and 2B/3B Brett Lawrie to the Boston Red Sox for 2B Yoan Moncada, OF Andrew Benintendi, SP Michael Kopech, 3B Rafael Devers, and C/OF Blake Swihart RP David Robertson to the Texas Rangers for OF Joey Gallo LF Melky Cabrera to the Giants for SP Tyler Beede SP Jose Quintana to the Dodgers for SP Julio Urias, OF Alex Verdugo, and SP Jose De Leon 3B Todd Frazier to the Astros for SP Francis Martes and RP Riley Ferrell RF Adam Eaton (L) SS Tim Anderson 1B Jose Abreu CF Carlos Gomez 2B Yoan Moncada (L) LF Andrew Benintendi (L) DH Joey Gallo (L) 3B Tyler Saladino C Blake Swihart (S) C Omar Narvaez (L), OF Charlie Tilson (L), 2B/SS Carlos Sanchez (S), 1B/3B Luis Valbuena (L) SP James Shields SP Carlos Rodon (L) SP Ivan Nova SP Julio Urias (L) SP Miguel Gonzalez RP Anthony Raunado RP Jake Petricka RP Tommy Kahnle RP Dan Jennings (L) RP Will Lamb (L) RP Nate Jones RP Zack Burdi Thoughts? If you're not batting Gallo in the middle of your order, you're making a mistake.
  24. Renteria exceeds as a manager in two areas that the Sox as a manager need to improve in: player development and fundamentals. In terms of player development, Renteria made Anthony Rizzo the player that he is today. There was serious talk before he took over the Cubs that Anthony Rizzo was nothing more than a platoon player, he couldn't hit lefties and his defense wasn't what it is today. Renteria made Rizzo his personal project and elevated his play. The prospect of Renteris working with the Sox younger players in a bigger role is something to keep an eye on. Maybe Renteris could bring some of that Cubs Plan over to the Southside. Am I mad that Sox didn't go through a proper search, yeah I am. Even if Renteris was always going to be the guy, they should have interviewed some people to get some more info. Regardless of a proper search or not, Renteria is one of the best candidates out there. And I can't wait to see who he brings in.
  25. I think KW is a good baseball man and is way overtly qualified for every job out there but it is in the best interest of bother parties if they separate.
