  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 06:24 AM) Agreed on the cinematography.... Maybe the history teacher part of me prefers The New World and The Thin Red Line...that second one was definitely his most accessible, mainstream type of movie. The New World is a beautiful movie to watch. Maybe Tree of Life would resonate with me more, had I grown up in the 1950's/60's, instead of of the 70's and 80's. To the Wonder had Affleck and two actresses I enjoy watching, McAdams and Olga Kurylenko, but it just didn't quite make it into that category of great move. It was a worthwhile watch, although I find some aspects I enjoy in almost every movie, no matter how terrible. I think his most accessible and conventional film is Badlands with Martin Sheen, ironically it's his first movie and he didn't become the Terrence Malick we know till his second film Days of Heaven. The New World is criminally underrated and I think The Thin Red Line is way better than Saving Private Ryan. I am excited about Voyage of Time, its been talked about since before Tree of Life.
  2. On set today, putting away some stingers (extension cords). I'm exhausted and wearing a UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs shirt. I'm just trying to leave, not paying attention and I hear someone say 'royale with cheese'. I look up and it was Michael Bay, in full glory with backwards hat and sunglasses, walking past me. Pretty cool moment and now we're watching The Rock to commemorate what happened.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 10:31 PM) I read an article yesterday that said quite the opposite. Shuck said that the early April energy is back and players are as loose as they were then It's the Tim Anderson effect
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) If you are rebuilding for two years, then you have to trade Sale/Abreu/Frazier also I was talking about this season when I mentioned Robertson, Melky and Quintana. And if I they play their cards right they might not have to trade Sale* and maybe Abreu but if are offered something ridiculous then they have to seriously consider it. *I imagine a Sale trade being hard to conceptualize.
  5. The Sox have a nice easy patch in their schedule coming up but I think they should seriously be navigating the trade market as sellers and getting a feel of the trade value of guys like Robertson, Melky and even Quintana, who I would only move if I'm getting an elite prospect back in any package. If the Sox are smart and take their lumps for two seasons they can really improve the trajectory of the franchise for the better. But would Jerry want to do that?
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 28, 2016 -> 04:48 AM) Let's just say, The Knight of Cups is really really out there. It's basically inaccessible to a mainstream audience. Depending on your opinion about the Brad Pitt/Jessica Chastain one from 2011 (the name's eluding me at the moment), this was...well, as a film watcher, I could at least understand where he was trying to go, but something about Christian Bale's character just irked me (as opposed to playing a loathsome character exceedingly well, like in The Big Short). It's hard to put a finger on it, just a feeling...it was just such an opaque and philosophical movie, but one which the depth comes from it's being so simplistic in the many ways that it's trying to trick you into believing it's both a complex and meaningful statement about man's existence, speaking directly to our psyches. LOL. At any rate, will never pass up a chance to watch Freida Pinto. I don't think Knight of Cups was trying to be complex at all and I don't think it was trying to trick anyone into thinking that it's complex. I think its beauty comes from its simplicity and I found it to be more accessible than The Tree of Life (the one with Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain), my favorite movie of all time. Everything you need to know about Knight of Cups is in the title: The Knight of Cups is someone who's a source of inspiration as they bring ideas with them wherever they go, in addition to opportunity (Rick's a successful screenwriter, writing is usually the first process in making a movie). The Knight of Cups is constantly in need of stimulation and excitement as they get bored easily (Rick's constant partying). He's artistic and is always creating and craving adventure (Him and each of the women, go somewhere together). He's also a man with big dreams (leaves his family to go to Hollywood), who can be easily discouraged. If the card is pointed up it represents change and new romance (the woman in his life) and if the card is pointed down it represents recklessness (drinking), unreliability (adultery) and false promises (failed marriage). Like The Tree of Life and To The Wonder, this movie is based on Malick's life and that's who Bale is playing. Rick is a man that after the suicide of his brother has gone to Hollywood, the city of dreams, in the hopes of creating art and adventure away from his broken family. While he's had a successful career, his life is empty and he's emotionally drained by the machine that's Hollywood. This is a direct mirror of Malick's life and his exit from Hollywood. My favorite sequence from the movie and maybe my favorite sequence from any movie this year, was the Judgement chapter with Cate Blanchett. When they're walking through the giant and empty sound-stages and they're talking about their marriage and what went wrong. She tells him that he grew bored of their marriage and that everyday they were together was a lie, they were each playing a part. She also talks about how full of life he was and how he wanted to make art and settled on being apart of the machine, presumably making 'empty studio fare'. The symbolism is great, the sound-stages represents the acting they did throughout their marriage and how empty Rick is and has become. I don't think Knight of Cups was ever trying to make some meaning statement about existence, its a story about a man at a crossroads in life, who's trying to feel a void in his life and because he's caught in the machine of Hollywood, he fills that void with excess. its clear that he is desperate for love but he's caught in a viscous cycle. I think Knight of Cups is a great achievement and I'm excited to see the next part, Weightless. While I am excited to see Malick return to WW2 for his next follow up to Knight of Cups/Weightless, I do admit that I'm sad that he's done making these autobiographical movies for the moment. Terrence Malick movies to me aren't just films, they're extensions of who he is a person. And no films better exemplify this than this series that began with The Tree Of Life and will conclude with Weightless. Not to mention this movie had some of the best cinematography I've seen in a long time, I like how they mixed footage that was shot on camcorders and GoPros with 35mm.
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) He's a DH/1B anyway, f*** his glove. He may be the most patient bat on the team if they brought him up right now. I agree with you, I think it's best for him a player and for the team if they take away his glove and make him a 1B/DH so he can just focus purely on the bat. But you would have to ask why the Sox would draft a 1B/DH 10th overall then and the only way to justify that is by ensuring his bat is as special as it can be.
  8. I was never a fan of the inclusion of Tatis either, especially considering that the Sox are dealing with AJ Preller. I think the Sox should have held firm at Erik Johnson because you shouldn't have to give up a prospect when you're trading for a players whose owner wants him out of town and destroying all trade value.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 26, 2016 -> 11:59 AM) I don't think I could put together a good top 10 yet. 7-10 would probably be average. Mine were not in any particular order. But If I pick a favorite movie of the year it would be between Neon Demon, Midnight Special and The Witch.
  10. I think it's way too early to have this conversation but I'm excited by Tim Anderson and what he can do on the field. Hopefully he can be that face of the franchise player that I feel the franchise needs to pair with Chris Sale, and having a African American player fill that role on the south side of Chicago, would be good for the team.
  11. My top ten movies of the year so far. Neon Demon The Witch 10 Cloverfield Lane Midnight Special Batman v. Superman (Director's Cut) Deadpool The Nice Guys Knight Of Cups Green Room Zootopia
  12. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 08:35 PM) Vinyl scratched. See what I did there? That was a very boring show. I think it has a good chance of having the first emmy winner from a show that's been cancelled. HBO spent so much money on Vinyl that they were forced to delay WestWorld which looks amazing, they had to pull the plug on shows by David Fincher and Steve McQueen, delay shows like True Detective and completely overhaul Lewis and Clark for budgetary reasons.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 10:49 AM) I don't know about you guys, but I'd need at least one of Betts/Bogaerts AND 3 other elite prospects in order to trade the best pitcher in the American League. Totally agree, I need Bogaerts and Moncoda to start in any deal
  14. Hold on to your butts, Bryan Cranston is playing Zordon in Power Rangers
  15. There was a Rick Hahn led conference call with season ticket holders and when asked about J2, Hahn said that the team is signing 9 players and that includes one 'big expenditure'. I've been scouring the Internet to did out who they are.

    DC Films

A ton of reporters, bloggers and critics just visited the set of Justice Leauge all of last week and today a lot of news and info is dropping from the movie including the official synopsis people are saying that the day might end with a huge reveal of some sorts. http://collider.com/justice-league-set-visit-video-recap/ http://collider.com/justice-league-what-we-know-so-far/ Even if you didn't like BvS, it's pretty cool that were finally getting a JL film.
  17. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 10:38 PM) http://mlbfarm.com/index.php?team=CWS Nicky D used his yard stick to poke a solo shot. J-Fish is 2/4 with a SB, his 3rd in 4 pro games. Zangari is 3 for 3, 2 doubles, BB, 2 RBI. Hitting .267 since his demotion. (Fun fact, just realized he has 29 E at 1B in 107 pro games there.....HOLY f***ING AWFUL) This is his first full year at the position
  18. Man, I really enjoy watching Tim Anderson play. Havent been this excited about a young Sox position player at the ML level in a long time.
  19. The Sox have also gotten in with some of the big time trainers recently, like Banana who trained Harvin Mendoza, I believe.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 04:52 PM) While they haven't hit the headlines, they have been spending bringing in lots of lower cost players, especially pitchers who are much harder to project at 14/15/16 years old than the hitters are. That is why we are also seeing pitchers that we never heard about getting into our system over the last couple of years. Yeah, they really do a very good job at spreading their money around.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 04:27 PM) I really hope that's true. It's difficult to give them the benefit of the doubt until some of these guys are on full season teams and doing well. They've been really active internationally, despite not going over and they spent every dollar allotted to them ever since the new rules have came into effect with the current CBA in 2012. The fact that the Padres wanted Tatis Jr, is a good sign. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 04:33 PM) Even getting that many kids out of the DSL and into rookie ball is something considering where we were 5 years ago. Its a good indication of the progress they've made
  22. If you're doing a rebuild, who's untouchable/who are you holding on to? I would say that Rodon, Anderson, and my current prospects are all untouchable going forward. You?
  23. The INTL program has come a long way.
