QUOTE (Vance Law @ Oct 11, 2015 -> 12:52 AM) Why? Awful contract, bad defensively, character issues...why would you take him off the Red Sox hands exactly?
-
This would be an absolute disaster for the franchise

A fly ball pitcher in that stadium. What could go wrong?

White Sox peripherally make news for Cub Hating
Dunt replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 09:29 AM) Where was all of this One City bulls*** 10 years ago? Cub fans have the most gigantic inferiority complex of any sport out there. Somehow if you aren't rooting for them you are an orphan kicking puppy killing communist listening to nickleback. Get over it. Ive never had so many Cubs fans ask me why I just cant be happy for them as I have in the last couple weeks. Not a single one wanted the Sox to win the World Series, not a single one. -
White Sox official website has a possible Quintana trade chip post

QUOTE (oldsox @ Oct 9, 2015 -> 07:00 AM) Bosox love Betts; they would never trade him one for one for Q. Just saying, that's the type of return I'd be looking for -
I'm not against Davis, but his contract brings the most risk of any free agent in this class

White Sox have worked out Eddy Julio Martinez twice or more

QUOTE (daggins @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 07:11 PM) Cubs got him. 3MM I really hope the Sox are planning on going over budget next year or this is going to start getting really embarrassing. -
Updating the plan a little bit: 1.) Offer Samardzija QO, he rejects 2.) Decline Alexei's option or restructure the contract and let him play it out 3.) Resign Albers 4.) Trade Micah and Avi for Derek Norris and Brandon Mauer 5.) Sign Jason Heyward 6.) Sign Ben Zobrist 7.) Send LaRoche and some cash to Pirates for low level prospect LF Eaton 3B Zobrist 1B Abreu DH Cabrera RF Heyward CF Thompson C Norris 2B Sanchez SS Saladino BE Flowers BE L. Garcia BE Shuck BE ? SP Sale SP Quintana SP Rodon SP Johnson SP Danks CL Robertson SU Jones SU Montas RP Mauer RP Duke RP Petricka RP Albers If the Sox are in contention for anything come late May/early June and Anderson is tearing it up in AAA, bring him up and replace Saladino. If Thompson fails in CF, rotate Eaton back over and put Cabrera back in LF and platoon Thompson with someone in the DH role.

White Sox official website has a possible Quintana trade chip post

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 03:40 PM) Wouldn't want any of those guys that Law mentioned. For Quintana, I'd ask for Holt, Devers, Margot, Owens, and Ball. They'd probably say no, but Q is that valuable. Q for Betts or Q for Moncada and Margot would be what I'd look at. -
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 12:33 PM) On ESPN, Jim Bowden is doing a What's Next? piece for all 30 teams. He did the White Sox recently: http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-of...icago-white-sox 1. 3rd Base Upgrade: He mentions Ian Desmond in FA. Also mentions Brett Lawrie, Trevor Plouffe, Martin Prado, and Todd Frazier via trade. 2. Upgrade at C: Matt Wieters and Alex Aliva were the FA names. Also mentions Derek Norris, Austin Hedges, Christian Vasquez, and Austin Barnes via trade. 3. Improve Defensively 4. Improve Lineup 5. Listen to offers for Chris Sale 6. Promote Tim Anderson to big leagues (terrible idea) and decline Ramirez's option. Jim Bowden is a boob but I wanted to see what 3B/C he thought would be available. I was originally all for Anderson starting the year with the big league club, but then thought about it more and decided he should definitely play his way there in AAA. If he is crushing it in June and the Sox are in contention, sure bring him up and see if he can have an impact like Lindor had this season (different players, I know). Derek Norris is a very interesting name though, especially if Hedges is considered the future for them. Hits free agency in 2019, career .723 OPS with a 103 OPS+, ranked 5th in defensive score on fangraphs among qualified catchers. I think he would be a really nice target for Hahn and could probably be had for a reasonable price.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) They've done quite well with their #1 picks lately. Not sure what makes you think they are likely to screw it up. Anderson, Rodon, Fulmer is pretty hard to beat from any other team. In fact their last three drafts in general have looked pretty good to me. Agreed. Very excited about the direction of the organization since Hahn took over. I think the Hostetler promotion is a good one.

The Sox should really try unloading LaRoche on the Pirates

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 03:14 PM) Um, yes, he should be counted as a lesser player for missing starts and I find it hard to believe that I'd ever be asked that. Being able to stay on the mound is an important thing for a pitcher. He's not a better pitcher when he's on the DL or having starts skipped. There are several guys who would immediately appear on the list of "as good as Sale or better" if somehow you gave the right to ignore the fact that guys haven't pitched 220 innings. Matt Harvey even counting this as a recovery year put up 5.9 fWAR/200 IP between 2013 and 2015, but anyone would call me out of my bleeping mind for including him as a pitcher who has clearly been better than Sale over the last 3 years since he kinda missed the whole 2014 season. Jose Fernandez is right there with Sale at 5.44, but he's pitched only 288 innings so no one on Earth would include him. I could probably find others but I have to go teach. Guys, Kershaw is a lesser player because he missed a month of starts last year. Just wanted to put you all on notice.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) The fact that they are not blaming the manager means they are blaming the players. I expect a very active winter for the White Sox. That was the way I took Hahn's comments at the end of the season too (blaming both the players and themselves). I think we see much more activity than we expected...not all stuff we will like either.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 11:33 AM) You should be ashamed of yourself. I'd do a lot of things to have to "worry about the anxiety." Ya, I would forego hair, fingernails, a liver, anything, to regularly be nervous in October.

It really sucks never watching the Sox play postseason baseball
-
I'd consider Desmond if the figure was right. Unfortunately, I think he is going to be way overpriced for someone that has had a declining OBP and SLG% 4 years in a row.

Some pertinent info to this thread from Kiley's prospect chat today: Comment From Tim Best college hitter in the 2016 draft? Kiley McDaniel: Either Florida CF Buddy Reed or Louisville CF Corey Ray, both from Team USA this summer. Slight edge to Ray right now, but Reed has more upside and could overtake him this year. Both in the top 5-6 picks at this point for me. Who is the group of 6 guys at the top tier of the 2016 draft? Kiley McDaniel: RHP Alec Hansen (Oklahoma), LHP A.J. Puk (Florida), LHP Jason Groome (HS in NJ), CFs Corey Ray (Louisville) and Buddy Reed (Florida) and RF Blake Rutherford (HS in CA). No one I talked to specifically referenced that as the top tier, or called it a big 6 or whatever, but I think that’s mostly bc it’s really early. There’s some consensus that those are the top couple guys.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 10:33 PM) btw, i been following the cape the last 2 weeks and the leaders are all over the place. the favorites struggling except for 1, which i will mention later. the main college pitchers are not playing, which i was happy, considering all the injuries happening. last yr donnie deweese the scrubs 2 nd rounder happ the scrubs 1 rnd and thompson 3b had a great cape season. this yr so far, bobby dalbec is putting up some monster hrs.... even tho is on avg of the others numbers. one blog had him hitting monsters shot. as fan graph wrote several months ago i like this. ref Ray, he is dropping but i don't think he is playing there. here is the link. http://www.pointstreak.com/baseball/stats....amp;orderby=avg I hope he's much more Bryant and much less Peterson

White Sox lowest rated TV Regional viewership in MLB.. 2015
Dunt replied to captain54's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) How many years before they relocate? "Speaking of room to grow, the White Sox were the lowest-rated team in baseball with a 0.82 average TV rating. Their 29 percent decrease from last season was the fifth-worst in baseball. The Sox (76-86) fired their bench coach Mark Parent before the final series of the season in an attempt to shake things up." I'd be pretty inconsolable if they moved this team -
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 07:00 PM) yeah, i really enjoy the minor league stats and players as well college players and draft stats. yeah that was the ncaa main web sites and scores. Ah, so it wasn't actually a program? You were just copying and pasting? I wanted to do a similar thing this year and liked how you did it last year.

QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 06:29 PM) nice, i can see Corey Ray - of. Bobby Dalbec - 3b/of/1b Chris Okey - cat of course the other pitchers like A.J. Puk Alec Hansen the surprise is Boldt who is not having a nice cape cod time. that is if i am reading this right over the weekend. now i am really torn on the positional players of ray, dalbec and okey. however i am still leery on okey. he will need to put up some decent numbers again. thanks for the link. Were you the one that had that tracking website for stats last season?

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) HuskerHickory mentions Beckham but I think Gordo signed a two year deal didn't he? Dear god I hope not.

Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 5, 2015 -> 12:05 PM) Right, though it is fun to think about a defensive OF of Eaton-Thompson-Heyward. Death to fly balls. Being that I've been beating the drum for Heyward for awhile now, I will say that this is kinda what I want. People here are quick to dismiss, but it's our offseason , we were terrible, let me dream. That OF would cover so much ground it would be stupid. No more Hawk saying Kansas City Special. -
Are the 5 months (6 if you're the Sox) he has off a year not enough to be around his grandkids?
