I absolutely hate the two Wild Card format, so I'm open to tweaks. But top seeds picking their opponent seems completely silly. Play out the season, battle it out down the stretch, and let records decide the seeds. No need to create faux drama to attract the disinterested.

Puig is a career .255 hitter with a .762 OPS in 422 games against LH pitching. Better vs LHP than Mazara yes, but worse .BA than Leury. Not exactly lighting the world on fire. His 2019 stats vs LH look to be a bit skewed by a hot month of September.

Nick Madrigal will have a shot at being the Opening Day 2b
Tnetennba replied to iWiN4PreP's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I was trying to think of similar players to what he projects to be with the same reasoning in mind. I don't foresee Madrigal being so expensive in FA that he would be impossible to extend in the next 5 years if he forces his way onto the opening day roster. -
Adding Joc means 2 RF on the same side of the platoon. And who sits for the other? And whose roster spot does Joc take? Because Mazara sure isn't a defensive bench piece. I agree with the premise that you can never have too many good players, but there are only so many roster spots.

He doesn't fit. And I've been banging that drum all winter. Grandal supposedly vouched for Puig with the FO too, and yet he remains unsigned. Puig the name =|= Puig the player. Teams seem to have recognized this, even if posters here can't.

The timing of the Mazara trade left a lot of us puzzled and provoked a lot of doubt in the FO based on their history in FA. Had it come after other acquisitions I think the perceptions would have been much different. I myself was ready to excoriate them after making no other moves at the winter meetings, but I have warmed up to the deal quite a lot. Would I prefer Joc to Mazara, yes, but that ship has sailed. And the Sox aren't going to dump a guy they've been talking up all winter, invited to Soxfest, etc, just days before pitchers and catchers report. It's not how they operate. Let's give the kid a chance to prove his late season adjustments weren't a fluke before tossing him to the curb for the next bright shiny name to pop up in trade rumors.

Twins went from C to D. Maeda seemed like a desperate win now move before they gave up a comp pick. Dodgers got the best player in the deal, but have to live with Price. A- BoSox made much out better in version two, adding more talent while shedding $$. B+/A-

Puig also hasn't been good in 6 years. If his name weren't Puig no one here would be clamouring for him.
-
AJ was good though. Puig really isn't.
-
So LA gets a comp pick out of it too. Even better.
-
And Minny still only gets Maeda for Graterol? I can live with that.

Wasn't NOT St*ve just tweeting about the White Sox getting involved in the now complete Betts deal?? I have no doubt that the Sox are in on Colas, but do not believe fake St*ve has any real info.
-
Doesn't solve the other side of a Mazara platoon. Takes the roster spot of a more versatile defensive backup. How exactly does he fit?
-
Does NOT St*ve read this board and then just throw shit out on Twitter? Not sure what Maeda does for the Sox at this point vs what would have to given up. Same goes for Joc if his previous cost was Bummer.
-
I'm scratching my head too. Seems like a desperate win now move.

I love the Batterman logo and the classic Sox, but overplayed they clash hard. That is really poor design.

Yikes. Just, NO.

FS: A Brave New World: The White Sox Enter the Realm of Biomechanics

This was a really good read. Nice to see the org trying to get ahead of the curve with analytics & player development. -
I mean, that's honest at least. Sox need a capable defender to backup SS & 3B and everyone knows Madrigal will be the eventual starter at 2B very soon. Can't blame any FA that isn't ready to commit to that yet.
