  1. Sox aren't gonna trade Tim Anderson. Nor move Mocada off of 3B. Arenado makes any team better in a vacuum, but the acquisition cost is too great. Moving a burgeoning star under team control for 4 more years off of 3B (his best position) while creating a massive hole at SS and losing that marketing/swag/face of franchise/team leader for only 2 guaranteed years of a guy making $35M per just makes zero sense. Sox have more pressing needs in the near future to mess up their rebuild with short sided moves.
  2. Yeah, Unless they go with only 7 in the pen, there just isn't a spot for Collins. And even if he made the roster he's riding the bench a ton, which doesn't exactly do him any good.
  3. I am right there with you! Can't wait for Opening Day!
  4. Opening Day: C - Grandal 1B - Abreu 2B - Yet to be signed vet utility INF 3B - Moncada SS - Anderson LF - Eloy CF - Robert RF - Mazara DH - Encarnacion Bench: McCann Mendick* Engel Leury Rotation: Giolito Keuchel Lopez Gonzalez Cease Bullpen: Colome Bummer Cishek Herrera Fry Marshall Cordero Fulmer* Collins starts in AAA to get everyday reps at C. * - Mendick probably goes down when Madrigal comes up. * - Fulmer gets one last shot and will be the first arm to go when they need someone else.
  5. 2020 OD lineup is dripping with potential and is super exciting, but 94 was coming off a playoff berth and had prime MVP on his way to the HOF Frank Thomas, and 06 was a World Series Champion that added a future HOFer Jim Thome. I am crazy excited for this season, but 2020 has a lot of proving to do to be mentioned along with those two teams.
  6. I would venture a guess that they were making indedendent "craft beer" before you even knew the term. Yes they were better before they were bought out but damn dude. Look at how many craft brews are available at Sox Park. I'm not even the biggest Goose Island fan but there's no reason to shit all over a local brand repping our Sox across the city.
  7. This is true. And I appreciate that the brand is still around and reps Chicago. I love the branding & design on this offering and I will definitely give it a try at the park this summer. But they have a long way to go to beat out Lagunitas, Revolution, or Three Floyds for local breweries IMO.
  8. I always felt they were much better before they were bought out by Bud or whatever corporate overlord owns them now. Now I find their offerings to be pretty Meh as well.
  9. As the roster stands today, the biggest need IMO is a backup SS/3B capable of adequate D if or when a starter needs an IL stint. RF platoon, pen arms, 4th OF will probably all come internally.

    LOL

Has Bunt Renteria met himself? ?
  11. It would also take the Cubs sucking for a long while, and the generation that grew up on free superstation WGN games to become disillusioned + the Cubs network flopping, and Wrigley pricing itself out of being a cash cow tourist trap. I will be happy with a long run of Sox playoff appearances and being on post season television screens and Sox Park being filled every fall. There are enough eyeballs for the Sox to be a draw w/o having to overtake the daily wrigelyville frat party.
  12. Mendick sported a .968 fielding % in 131 games at SS in BHam in 2018 vs a .994 in 42 games at Charlotte in 2019. .971 in 325 games at SS in total. Can play SS vs play well vs do we want him filling in on the left side of the infield if someone needs an IL stint? Sox probably look for a veteran UTIL.
  13. I love me some Leury, but yeah, he really shouldn't be counted on as more than an emergency fill in at SS. Mendick's fielding % at SS & 3B in the minors isn't so hot either.
  14. If Avi had repeated his 2017 I have no doubt that the Sox would have paid his Arb #. He was clearly injured most of 2018 and his play reflected that. Add that to his injury history and his Arb #, non-tendering him was the right move. Giving flash-in-the-pan-Palka a longer look in a rebuilding year probably didn't factor into the decision. It was clear that it was time to move on from Avi.
  15. Your love of Yolmer is renown (??), but I have seen enough of his bat to not want him pinch hitting in a big spot or pressed into service if a starter needs an IL stint. Nor do I trust RR to not over play him as a back up.
