  1. Mendick sported a .968 fielding % in 131 games at SS in BHam in 2018 vs a .994 in 42 games at Charlotte in 2019. .971 in 325 games at SS in total. Can play SS vs play well vs do we want him filling in on the left side of the infield if someone needs an IL stint? Sox probably look for a veteran UTIL.
  2. I love me some Leury, but yeah, he really shouldn't be counted on as more than an emergency fill in at SS. Mendick's fielding % at SS & 3B in the minors isn't so hot either.
  3. If Avi had repeated his 2017 I have no doubt that the Sox would have paid his Arb #. He was clearly injured most of 2018 and his play reflected that. Add that to his injury history and his Arb #, non-tendering him was the right move. Giving flash-in-the-pan-Palka a longer look in a rebuilding year probably didn't factor into the decision. It was clear that it was time to move on from Avi.
  4. Your love of Yolmer is renown (??), but I have seen enough of his bat to not want him pinch hitting in a big spot or pressed into service if a starter needs an IL stint. Nor do I trust RR to not over play him as a back up.
  5. His BA (I know its not the end all be all) the past two years concerns me in a PH role. And his literal lack of innings on the left side of the infield questions his utility role. If the FO sees a fit, cool, but seems like a odd fit to me.
  6. Dozier had some astonishing HR numbers not too long ago, but overall his numbers aren't that good in recent years. Add that to the fact that he hasn't played anywhere but 2B since his rookie year in 2012 and I find it difficult to see a fit. Not sure I buy this rumor.
  7. After the debacle that was 2011, Robin always felt like a sort of fan-service, polar opposite of Ozzie, look how smart this FO is kind of hire. And it almost worked for a season. But after the collapse of 2012, if the Sox manager were anyone other than beloved player turned not very good manager Robin Ventura, he would have been replaced. Instead the FO gave Robin shit roster in 2013 and gave him no chance to succeed in the subsequent years by half-assed "retool" rebuilding. And we all know how that turned out.
  8. 4/$92M for a 34y/o. Hope the back end bites them in the ass.
  9. Damns. If the ball is as juiced that offense will be tough. Pitching is still a problem but thy will score plenty of runs.
  10. Cuz we just know its gonna happen ??
  11. Officially Official! Actually surprised it was Covey DFAd but also totally ok with it!
  12. I just checked and it looks like the bleachers and whole outfield is sold out. Upper corners start at $25 and range up to $39 for the upper deck. Cheapest lower bowl looks like $75 in sec 108 & 156.
  13. The Sox will someday have a manager better than Renteria, but it won't be AJ Hinch.
  14. Probably true. But i'd still rather see Mendick or someone else as the backup INF over Yolmer.
  15. And Yolmer is never a guy that you want pinch hitting either. Leury is already on the roster, and while not the defender Yolmer is, Leury can at least hit and isn't a total black hole at the plate when he does need to fill in. At a fraction of the cost.
  16. If it weren't beneficial, why keep doing it?? ?
  17. Players were complicit, even if unpunished...
  18. I assume this is the same mini-camp they've been doing with their top prospects the past few years? Not sure. Still nice to see guys putting in work!
  19. Probably true. But doesn't help it look like anything but a light punishment.
