GMs skeptical teams meet price for Robert
Lip Man 1 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Trade Winds 2024
There is a lot of truth to this since we know real change won't come until ownership does. -
DVS spoke with Mike Shirley: https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2024/07/09/pivotal-draft-upcoming-for-white-sox
-
Because by the time this franchise is respectable he'll be nearing or at free agency and JR will NOT pay him especially if he can put together a few more seasons like the one he had last year. Now if new ownership is in place they may feel differently about him. Thus endeth the lesson.
-
What will be interesting is if he learns anything from this season and improves next year. He has to understand this isn't slamball or the G-league. Different sport, different rhythms, different skill sets.
-
????? Leasure is not getting traded. He's exactly the type of player the Sox need to get right now. Young, raw, full of potential and cost controllable.

As Hawk would say, "He gone!"

7/8 Sox vs Twins, time for Flexual Healing
Lip Man 1 replied to Heads22's topic in 2024 Season in Review
At the risk of offending a certain individual This group is a bunch of clowns and buffoons. 18th time this season the Sox had a lead in the 7th inning or later...and wound up losing the game. Third consecutive game this has happened: Saturday: 7th inning Sunday: 9th inning Monday: 7th inning The Sox are now 0-8 vs. Minnesota this year with five game remaining. Serious question, have the Sox ever gone winless for a year against an individual team????? -

If new ownership arrives in the next two/three years and cleans everybody out it is possible a contention window could be six/seven years away. It would depend on how aggressive new ownership would be and how much money they would be willing to spend. -
Fundamentals have been an unknown word to this organization for years. The only real meaningful change comes when new ownership arrives. If I had to guess I'm thinking Steve was talking about Grifol (fall guy) and his staff.
-
Tampa Bay has been doing it this way for years. The difference is they have a scouting/ minor league developmental system that is second to none, so when they let guys go, they have guys brought up who are just as good, sometimes even better. Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and even Cleveland have also let good players go before hitting arbitration seasons and/or free agency. Commissioner has no authority over how individual teams conduct their business. He could possibly do something under the "best interest of baseball" clause but of course if he did, the owners would get together and fire him like with Fay Vincent.

Chasing Records — 121 losses, modern MLB record
Lip Man 1 replied to Paulie4Pres's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Saw this stat this morning, it may also turn out to be a record. Grifol is 2-12 in challenges so far this season. He's been thrown out of more games than challenges won. ? -
Supposedly they tried, nothing happened and they are going to deal him.
-
?????
-
And Grifol's quote today on "fundamentals" is just as idiotic.

I'm a broadcaster for Idaho State University in the Big Sky Conference. BIG DIFFERENCE between those kids and professional players getting paid millions and millions of dollars supposedly to perform. And no, ISU doesn't have huge NIL deals for their athletes. To answer your question I'd never call those kids clowns and buffoons They are amatures but when they have played badly I HAVE called them out because I also have an obligation to the audience to be truthful. I have gotten into hot water at times because of it but that's what happens when you have a conflict of interest situation between the school, which is paying me, and the obligation to my profession and the listeners/viewers. I respected Jack as a good broadcaster but he was as unbiased and honest as today's politicians. If the Cubs or Sox were having a bad season or getting blown out he'd still try to tell you that everything is fine. That's insulting to a fan in my opinion. That's thinking they are idiots. Now feel free to go back to telling us how the Sox were going to have a good season or after winning a few games how this was going to be the start of a turnaround. ?? I repeat this edition of the Sox as well as basically since 2007 are nothing but clowns and buffoons and that extends into ownership and the front office on the baseball side.

Fix it Brujan went to an uncovered bag at third base on Nick Fortes’ sacrifice bunt in the ninth. Catcher Korey Lee should have been there to cover but was late. Grifol said he and his staff continue to address fundamentals daily. “We have to minimize those fundamental and mental mistakes,” he said. “Especially hitting the cutoff guy, all that little stuff. I am. Again, 162 games, you are going to see things over and over again to a point that you can raise a question ‘are they even talking about anything here? Are they even trying to fix anything?’ Well, yeah, we are. And we don’t let things, we don’t procrastinate with that kind of stuff. We take care of it. Sometimes it takes two or three times to take care of it. Sometimes it takes one. Sometimes you won’t see it for a couple of weeks and then you’ll see it again. That’s just the game.” ? In the Sox case you see it over and over and over and over. These players are simply baseball stupid and Grifol and his band of idiot coaches can't seem to teach properly.

Of the 17 games the Sox have now lost when leading in the 7th inning or later Kopech is directly responsible for four of those games: April 17 Kansas City 8th inning (Game #1) May 24 Baltimore 8th inning June 10 @Seattle 8th inning July 7 @Miami 9th inning He's clearly got to go.
-
Here we go again. For the 17th time the Sox had a lead going into the 7th inning or later...and lost. All you can do is laugh at these buffoons.
-
The path to .500 in 2025? New ownership. That's the only way.
-
he did get Ozzie into coaching and he was a fine manager in my opinion.

The only game at all this year where they came from behind to win when trailing in the 7th inning or later happened on April 27 against Tampa Bay. They trailed going into the last of the 10th inning but won 8-7. One single solitary game. Wow. -

For the 16th time this season the Sox took a lead into the 7th inning or later...and lost. 16...and we aren't even at the All-Star break yet. Wow!
