I disagree. The Sox have done a great job this season patching together an outfield and won w them. But they really have 3 outfield positions and 1 MLB outfielder in Robert. Now we have Eloy but is he long term LF? Vaughn? Eaton in RF? Engel a starter or 4th OF. Is there a prospect in the organization that looks to be a pretty sure bet? I hope either at the trade deadline or next winter the Sox determine who is playing LF and RF next year and if it is still questionable go out and get someone.

Agree but I was talking about strictly offense. Vaughn, Madrigal, Eloy and Robert do not address RF and C long term.

Offensively, I think we are in good shape in the infield for the future. My concern is we really need a corner outfielder and a catcher down the road. The Sox have done a good job of covering LF and RF this season but they need to find a long term solution via FA. Is Vaughn the heir apparent in LF or IB? Will Collins ever emerge as a starting catcher as Grandal has some mileage on him.

Agree w that approach. Could even pair Rodon and Kopech for 3-4 innings, for a while, when Kopech returns.

Of course the team would be better off if we had a better manager. The team would also be worse if we had a worse manager. I did not like the hire from Day 1 but given the injuries and the extent of time lost, it is amazing how this team has performed. This is really 1/2 MLB and 1/2 AAAA positional player roster. Added to that is none of Anderson, Moncada, Abreu and Grandal have not had All-Star performances so far to help offset the injuries. Basically we have had a miracle stretch by Mercedes and the rest of the roster performing good enough in stretches to carry the offense. The pitching for the most past has been very good.

Not sure of that. Sox management needs to decide if Eloy returns to left and Vaughn to IB or Vaughn stays in LF and Eloy becomes a IB/DH

Jimmy: Top 20 is a pretty high ranking but I agree he's really good. I assume you would rank him as the best player on the White Sox?.

Cali: But some Sox posters are thinking Rodon will be limited in the 2nd half of season do to his reduced innings last year. Others think he is injury prone. Ttrade partners may assume the same thing which means his value is very limited in a trade. We may be better off gambling he helps us than giviing him away for limited value.

Maybe I am missing something , but why would AZ want Rodon? I would assume they want prospects back in any trade they make.

I gave you an example. His OBP, SLG ,OPS are all lower when he is not catching.

I agree with you but I think you missed the poster's point. He is saying Vaughn is having the communication issues. I think his lack of experience playing the outfield is more the problem than the number of different CF. Moncada and Anderson are usually the INF when Vaughn is in LF. .

In fairness some of that is poor communication but it is also lack of experience. Even with communication, colliding w walls is a different issue. We have seen collisions where multiple players call for a ball and end up colliding as well.

I still feel that the OF needs solving much more than 2B. We have a struggling Vaughn, an injured Roberts and an injured Eaton. Hahn needs to find a rental now as even the Pirates have been a challenge. Several teams have some very talented outfield prospects on the cusp (Seattle (2) Tampa(2) , Bosotn (1) to name a few. The Sox don't have a lot of ammunition, but if Hahn could find some package he would solve what looks to be a long-term OF need.

Might not be feelings. Many pitchers ( actually athletes) are very superstitious with their pregame and in-game routines. All the weird food guys like Boggs, Verlander and Morneau. Watch how often a pitcher still refuses to step on the lines when going from mound to dugout. How often when a pitcher is throwing a no-hitter does he end up all alone in the dugout. Maybe Gio is just very much influenced by superstitions
