  1. If he gives the team a better chance of winning now he better be on the roster. I don't care about Super 2 or whatever little tricks we can use. We have two of the 10 best players in the league right now in their prime. Worrying about 4 years from now (esp about something so petty) is missing the point.
  2. They were thinking about having him catch this year.
  3. I don't think the Sox top 3 was assembled 'quietly' at all.
  4. I would not rule out the Sox extending him at all. Plenty of history of this franchise hanging onto their guys.
  5. Until the Robertson signing it was conceivable that Montas would break camp on the 25 man roster. Unlikely, probably to an exceeding degree, but definitely possible.
  6. The only move I'd want that would add to payroll at all is a multiyear extension for Eaton. He does what he does and he does it very well, buy out his arb years and a couple years of FA. The other move I'd like, which wouldn't add much payroll at all, is a Dayan Viciedo + <8-15 ranked prospect> for Jackie Bradley Jr. A bench of: C- Kotteras/Brantly/Nieto/whatever INF- Tyler Saladino UTIL- Emilio Bonifacio 4OF- Jackie Bradley Jr Really seems perfect to me, but with RH Dayan Viciedo soaking up a spot on the bench it keeps Saladino from the big league club (you need 1 LH bat off the bench that isn't a C). The options for defensive substitutions and pinch running with that bench are almost bottomless. Keep in mind that LaRoche will be on the bench any time we face a lefty, so that gives a lot more power to the bench than meets the eye.
  7. Ballplayers typically have a home in a warm weather climate (Arizona, Florida, etc.) and one in their teams' home city. I lived in the same building as Jake Peavy for six months and he's well known for his sprawling complex in Alabama. I don't believe teams pay for hotels on home games so it's a good decision to buy property, particularly in Chicago where with enough starting capital they're near assured to have the property build value if/when they decide to sell. The offseason house in AZ is pretty irrelevant, it's just a place to spend offseason because you can train year-round and not being able to enjoy summer weather through your 20's and 30's without having one of the craziest work schedules of any job kinda sucks.
  8. They sure did. They knew all the money was coming off the books after 2014 and could've just as easily spent on Tanaka last year as opposed to Robertson, Duke, LaRoche and Cabrera this year. That said the theme of this offseason has been: WHO THE HELL KNOWS ANYMORE. I also have done a bit more thinking about the Cuban ballplayers and I'm not sure the kids who haven't even climbed the ranks to superstardom in the Serie Nacional are the same kinds who come to MLB and light it up. That's really missing out on a huge advantage Cuban ballplayers typically give, and that's that they have proven success against very staunch opposition.
  9. If you're giving up on 2015 already (and you should) just start Fales.
  10. 2005 Tadahito Iguchi was the 7th ranked 2B in baseball by WAR. He would've only trailed Abreu on last year's team.
  11. Eric Thames put up slightly worse offensive numbers in the same league and, fwiw, he was about league average as a hitter.
  12. It's possible. Apparently they had Melky signed for a couple weeks and managed to keep it under wraps. Still, I doubt the Sox are in on this guy.
  13. If it was the Sox they would've let Nightengale or Levine know already.
  14. We probably want see Sale #2 (in essence Randy Johnson #3) for another 7-10 years on any MLB team. He's a very rare bird. The odds of the Sox finding another guy like him and keeping him healthy to extent Sale has been so far are pretty damn low.
  15. If he pitched one game at the Cell he will horrify onlookers as his arm literally falls off his body after 2 innings of work.
  16. I don't think they intended for anyone to pick up on this.
  17. He fits pretty damn well if the Sox can jettison Viciedo. (I'm only saying that because I want him torturing Conor again)
  18. Apparently media relations for the Bears told the reporters in the locker room that Cutler had started his conference after he had already started it. By the time anyone got there he was gone. This team is clown shoes.
  19. I am personally not ruling out Anderson showing up in the big league team on Opening Day 2016. The Sox are notoriously aggressive. It obviously depends on how this season goes for him at Birmingham and Charlotte.
  20. You don't think Jeff Sullivan reads fan forums? The dude was on Lookout Landing for quite a while.
  21. 90+ and the division crown. This is the year Detroit dies.
  22. It has every single player on the White Sox getting worse.
  23. Oh stop trying to victimize yourself. I haven't really heard any sound argument imploring me to "viscerally dislike" Melky Cabrera. Does this signing really make you want to see Adam Eaton and Avisail Garcia fail?
  24. Look, if you guys want to clutch your pearls over the signing of Melky Cabrera that's fine, but don't do the same dance over the reaction you get from others. Nobody is saying you cannot say you don't like the Cabrera signing, they're just saying the issue you're taking with it is pretty lame and extrapolating your displeasure with the signing into struggling to support the whole team is ridiculous.
