Victor Martinez Re-signs with Tigers
BaconOnAStick replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in The Diamond Club
This is doubly awesome. White Sox evade another albatross deal and more bad money for the Tigers ensuring their window not only shuts, but slams shut. -
That was Adenhart. He was on the Angels.

Well there was Nick Adenhart a few years ago. It just sucks. These kids have the world in front of them and it's all gone for them and their families in an instant.

Alexei and Eaton gold glove finalists
BaconOnAStick replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I really just want Alexei to win it. Surprised JEETS isn't gonna even be a finalist, I mean he was gifted it so much amyways. -
Can I change my handle to Alexeihyeess?

I'm honestly not trying to be different here, this is just how I see it. 1. Carlos Rodon Duh 2. Anderson Duh 3. Frank Montas I think he's a star closer in the making, and he's closer than most people think. Since the Sox system is still relatively weak overall, and even weaker in talent that's closer to the majors Montas is #3 by default. 4. Tyler Danish I like results, and Danish gets results. 5. Spencer Adams The upside, oh my god, the upside 6. Micah Johnson I'm just not big on Micah and I'll be really disappointed if he's starting over Semien this season. But he is awful fast and he could contribute to the Sox immediately because he's so gifted at that one tool. 7. Cleuluis Rondon I see him panning out on the coattails of his glove more than I do most others in the system. 8. Trey Michalczewski If he improves again he's going to be a real something. 9. Jace Fry The one nobody really talks much about but can still be really good. I wouldn't be shocked if he was on the big league club at some point in 2015. 10. Rangel Ravelo Wish he had a position. Maybe he'll get one.

Jose Abreu named Sporting News Rookie of the Year

SEMIEN!! -
Don't be so blinded by trying to maximize Montas' value. The White Sox have at least some starting pitchers. The White Sox have nobody, literally nobody, who can be relied on out of the pen. They're not paying for someone either, we know that much. Montas might have more value as a starter for the other 29 teams in baseball, but the Sox have the glaringest of needs in the bullpen. Plus pitching out of the pen should substantially reduce his injury risk.
-
As of now the White Sox have nothing to even pin hope on in the pen and it's not like we have any reason to believe Miller or Robertson will be in the Sox price range. Montas has a huge fastball and a very good slider. Why not just try and cash him in now? Especially when the pitching depth through the org is improving so rapidly.
-
Let's order likelihoods here: 50% Rodon blows out his arm or under performs and the big pay day that's was so dreaded never matierializes. 15% Rodon plays well. Decides he doesn't want to risk arm injury for 3 or 4 more seasons before hitting free agency so takes a Sale-like deal. 15% 4 or 5 seasons pass, the guy is dominant and seems intent on getting paid big. The Sox get the world from some team in a trade. 15% Boras gets fired by Rodon. 5% He just walks. The Sox get a draft pick (if that's even still a thing in 2022 or 2021).
-
I wish Danks never fired Boras. What I really, really don't want is for 6 years to pass and the 2021 White Sox are shaping up just like the 2012 White Sox (with Chris Sale being incredible and the team being a pit). Then we all look back on the 2015 season, with Jose Abreu, Chris Sale, Jose Quintana all in their primes and wonder if it was actually worth sending Rodon off because service time Boras paranoia. And after the season Rodon leaves anyways and nobody really knows why it so imperative he stuck around another year on the cheap.
-
It's tough to assume Rodon breaks camp in the White Sox rotation. Give him the Sale trearment, let him work a year in the pen to get himself together then once he's ready put him in the rotation. I don't care about service time, I care about making him a good pitcher for us. As for Montas, he's headed to the pen anyways so why not get him in a leverage role now?

Arizona Fall League - 7 Sox prospects
BaconOnAStick replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
If Anderson hits .500 at Charlotte all summer his earliest best-case ETA to the majors is still opening day 2016. Leave him at short, let him try to keep getting better at it. Not only is he athletic enough to thrive at a middle infield position, his bat will be worth much more at those positions than it will be in the OF. -
Giving up Viciedo, who hits 20 HR a year, for Grandal (PLUS WEBB) is silly.

When facing lefties Morse plays the field for Abreu or Avisail, who themselves slide into the DH spot. -Coin flip really between Semien and Sanchez over who starts the season at 2nd, I picked Sanchez because defense. Whoever doesn't start at 2nd will sub the IF positions. -Open tryouts for 5th starter (or 4th starter); if one fails a new comes up from the minors. -Rookies with great stuff make good bullpen pitchers. When Rodon joins the rotation (which could be midseason...) Montas is ready to move straight to closer.
-
Didn't he pitch 3 innings in that game? He didn't just face a batter or two before leaving... he stayed in.
-
Britton and Miller are the two most oft-used lefties. Miller occasionally plays matchups, but Britton is the straight up closer. Not much indication that Buck cares too much who their facing.
-
I'd also like to point out that Holland, Davis and Herrera are all righties (even their 4th option, Frasor is a righty) and Yost still uses them near exclusively. Handedness is irrelevant.
-
Thr Royals have a godly defense, which makes their starters all very good and their bullpen nearly untouchable. Pitchers who have an aversion to giving up HR + defensive wizards everywhere = not giving up many runs. How many runs have opponents sscored against KC that didn't come from the long ball? It's not a lot.

Vanished from radar - the Erik Johnson enigma
BaconOnAStick replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He couldn't throw strikes at the MLB level for some reason (my guess is pressure) so he started slowing down his pitches because he thought it would reestablish his control. It didn't happen. Some guys aren't made to be pros. I would say deal him but he's pretty much worthless, guys like Johnson are a dime a dozen. Just hang on to him hoping he's the 1 in 50 who figures out how to just calm down. -
Abreu and Puig have beef from Cuba, something to keep in mind. They'd have to make amends before you could bring Puig in. I also would not trade Alexei, you'd need a glue guy like that to keep Puig from getting out of hand. Dat Cuban solidarity. We don't match up well with the Dodgers though. The Sox have to be unilaterally opposed to the idea of moving Q or Sale; those two combined with Rodon is the real core of this team. The Dodgers cannot honestly settle for a package headlined by John f***ing Danks. I'd trade him for nothing just to shed his contract. Micah's value has gone way up because the Royals have shown speed kills in the postseason, but dude can't field. Who else do the Sox throw in? Anderson? Can we really get Yasiel Puig for Danks, M Johnson and T Anderson? Oh my god, that doesn't even make sense.

White Sox Extension Candidates

Eaton is the only one I could see as likely. -
If Flowers and Danks gets us Puig I will literally eat Rich Hahn's butthole live on TV.

If you're holding a grudge from 2012 just say that.
