  1. "Enjoy the show kid, you earned it" I don't know, that's my best guess
  2. Blackmar is a fastball/changeup guy who tops out at around 94, has a two seaver in the high 80's with life. Phil Blackmar, PGA golfer, is his dad.
  3. Sept call ups, Wilkins isn't going to be playing OF. Best of luck in Baltimore Alejandro, you always seemed to take it in stride.
  4. The Sox might just be demoting Bassitt after the game, then promoting him again Sept 1 (like what's going to happen to Carroll). Might just be a little hat tip to the season Wilkins has had by bringing him up a day early.
  5. Come Tuesday the Bears will have a spot open on the 53 when Wilson hits the IR. They were interested in drafting Sam too.
  6. The Bassitt contingent at the park is making some noise.
  7. I actually have some of the same apprehensions, but Abreu is much better this year than any season of Cespedes'.
  8. Don't rule hin out of the hall.
  9. I predict 4-4 with 2 jacks tonight. Because I can.
  10. There is no hope for Matt Davidson. Doesn't say much for our scouts.
  11. What's the difference between defense at 35% and fielding at 15%?
  12. Baserunning, sure. I'll give you that. But this PREMIUM DEFENSIVE POSITION REPLACEMENT LEVEL crap has to stop. Any player who can hit like Abreu holds tremendous value, I'd go so far as to say unequaled value. Abreu is the only player, regardless of position slugging above .600. Not only that, he's the only one even close. He's the only player in baseball that has even a remote chance of an OPS over 1.000. He leads MLB in wOBA and WRC+ too, lack of baserunning and all. It doesn't matter what position Abreu plays, he is cramming much more offense than anyone else in baseball into one spot in the lineup. There are plenty of teams that are not getting Abreu like production out of their 4 and 5 hitters combined (totally unverified claim). Don't give me the "well you see Trout plays center and the average center fielder can't hit near as well as the average first...", Abreu so far out classes what anyone in baseball does with the bat arguments over positional semantics are worthless.
  13. Abreu now leads Trout in every meaningful offensive category (incl WRC+ and woba) except OBP (Trout by .001) and, obviously, stolen bases.
  14. Trout just doesn't have the bat. I went Felix.
  15. Even if Arrieta wasn't in the process of getting figured out Q has a much better team control situation.
  16. What would the Sox have to get in return from the Cubs to feel good about an Abreu trade? How about Chris Sale? Or even Jose Quintana? The Cubs could probably piece together the bullets for one (maybe two, if Quintana is the second), of those guys. I'm not even counting Eaton, Avi, Conor, Rodon, Tim Anderson or Marcus Semien yet.
  17. "Listen Jill, Inland Steel is not coming back. Have you thought about being an offensive lineman?"
  18. What's it like being the Dr Phil of Northwest Indiana? "Listen Bob, Inland Steel is not coming back."
  19. You are lumping a lot of very different players into the same group.
  20. The AL is moving away from big mashers at DH. They are expensive, they have to be pinch run for, they have zero utility and there doesn't seem to be a ton of year-to-year consistency from the full time DH's. Bring me ballplayers, guys who can play one or multiple positions and play them well. Let the DH spot be used to get our everyday guys off the field the soothe the wear and tear of the season.
  21. Anything but... Mannelly has the personality of a doorknob.
