No such thing as a bad 1 year contract.
-
I like Hays. He’s great as the short side of a platoon and okay if he faces righties with real weakness against sliders. As long as he doesn’t play center, he’s a pretty good defender. I personally am a Baldwin Stan, but will acknowledge that his routes in the corners were brutal last year. Letting him play one position more often would help that. Currently, his best defensive position is third base. With the juice in his bat, I could definitely see a poor man’s Barger and that’s a pretty good player.

The big question: what is this year’s milkshake?
-
I suspect the Pohlads may be about to do the full Reinsdorf and trade Ryan, Buxton, etc and Falvey wanted none of it. Can’t be a great place to work if the top 2 baseball guys both voluntarily leave in a two year period.
-
Obviously, it is very hard to compare the son of a Cuban baseball legend who had to defect to this country, but signed earlier to a guy who did the showcase circuit but also played Lansing-area High School ball. Then add in the illness that swept through Kanny last year and helped lead to a lost month for Bonemer. Vargas and Bonemer are each on very different journeys.

White Sox sign RHP Seranthony Domínguez, 2/20M

I think it could be Hill. That split contract is designed to get him through waivers. You could also DFA and trade Lee, release Eisert, Gilbert, Romo, Mead, and Peters. Lotta 40th men on this roster. -
Callis really didn’t like Bonemer headed into the draft, so he is not on that train. He doesn’t want to put him in front of Carlson and Carlson can’t be higher than 70, therefore… To be fair, Bonemer’s swing mechanics are unusual. Most guys wouldn’t be strong enough to make them work.
-
Sure. You could also rotate through Antonacci out there, maybe Tanner Murray, Ramos if he somehow doesn't get taken in waivers. I mean, the biggest reason to sign like a Conforto or a Bader is to disincentivize the Sox from rushing Braden, but you could always just say, "Lock me in this room and no matter how much I scream, do not let me promote Braden Montgomery!"

Interesting. I am usually one of those "bad teams shouldn't pay relievers" sort of guys, but there is an opportunity to build value here, so I am intrigued. -
Really good Elijah Evans interview with new W-S hitting coach Adam Sinkoe just dropped. Sinkoe is super impressed with Jaden Fauske. He's another guy who could be a Top 100 guy if he breaks out in Kanny. Sinkoe also has nice things to say about the work Wolkow has done in the offseason. Worth a listen.

Holliday did not play well. He raised serious swing and miss concerns in his debut. That family has a history of being able to fix swings, so it may pass, but Holliday is less highly regarded now than he was on draft day.

Wow. That is mad Bonemer respekt, which I endorse.

MLB Trade Rumors says the current Sox payroll is down to $67 million, which is a pretty healthy number. For a minor league hockey team. For comparison, Kyle Tucker is making $57 million all by himself.
-
They could get 6 2b into the line up: Antonacci, LF Acuna, CF, Baldwin, RF, Vargas, 3b, Meidroth, 2b, Sosa, 1b/dh.

This trade has me bummed out. There is no way it makes them better in 2026, which means that they feel zero urgency to not lose 100 games for the fourth year in a row. The number of failed prospects they’re hoping to catch lightning with would be very appropriate on a AAA team. It seems like they are comfortable running out absolute crap teams for the foreseeable future as long as they can have one of the three lowest payrolls in the league.

Robert was scheduled to be at Soxfest. So Jerry also saves two nights at a hotel and minibar charges. He’s gotta love this deal.
-
Meh. It should be an open competition between a lot of post hype prospects. Frankly, Pereira has been a lot better in the minors than Acuna. We are returning to the Tilson, Ryan Cordell era of truly sucky Sox outfielders. Brooks Baldwin is now the trusted veteran of the bunch.
-
Acuna had an OPS+ of 62 last year. In 2400 minor league at bats he has 41 HR and an OPS of .741. Guy’s a R/R tweener who is probably a utility player and a pinch runner. Mets got all the upside here. Frankly, I would rather have a couple of teenaged lottery tickets.
-
Horrific trade. Acuna is not really a starting caliber player and the other guy is a 12th rounder from last year. WHO the hell is gonna play center. Pure. Salary. Dump.

The Future of the White Sox TV Broadcast Team

Stone turns 79 halfway through through the season. I’d imagine he’s not in the booth much longer regardless of the ownership situation. -
I assume they’ll be looking for a dart throw Ala Fajardo.
-
That’s sad. He started like half the games one year in my childhood. An all-time Sox great. RIP
-
It might if you get to 100% revenue sharing, which might lead to a 3 year lockout. Also, draft picks transform franchises much more quickly and completely than they do in baseball, so free agents in baseball are probably more valuable than they are in football.
-
Super teams get built with Max contracts and salary caps too. Competitors want to play for winners. A salary floor probably fixes nothing.

As a flyer 1b, not horrible. He’s not an outfielder. That puts a lot of pressure on the bat. Best case scenario he’s lotta power, lotta walks, lotta Ks. So, not that many pathways to success for him.
