  1. I just meant I bet they’ll be more likely to spend the prospect capital on guys with 2+ years of control rather than hand out 9-figure deals. Sox rebuild never had the overflow of talent to trade.
  2. Well no one ever dispute that. Edit: would actually love to see people try
  3. Maybe even trade Cease and sign 4 guys. Although, if you do deal him, you probably just let Touki or Scholtens open the year in the 5th spot and hope Nastrini (or anyone…literally anyone) can make the jump to the MLB next year.
  4. Yeah I don’t disagree. It’s just not going to be a good team ha hopefully you can trade at least 1 or 2 at the deadline.
  5. Imagine being able to sign him for $25M a year and saying nah and then potentially trading for Salvador Perez at $21M a year. Harper would have been an amazing fit and sold a fuckload of tickets and merchandise.
  6. Bryce Harper at $25M a year looks pretty damn good right now compared to *maybe* paying Sal Perez $21M a year. Makes no sense they didn’t pursue him harder that one off-season. Was a better fit than Machado. Sigh.
  7. Yeah I envision at least one of those guys (hell, maybe both), maybe overpay a guy a little like Flaherty? Realistically, if they sign 3 SP they’ll be Severino, Montas, Lorenzen for like 1 year, anywhere between $10-15M each. Edit: toss Maeda, Boyd (need a lefty!), Martin Perez on the list.
  8. Yeah, you’re basically declining TA option (or picking it up and hoping he’s the same guy he was 2 years ago) and hoping you get lucky on like 7-8 other signings and everything clicks, like 2005.
  9. Go all Giants and sign a handful of mid/back end rotation guys to 1-2 year deals like they did a couple years ago.
  10. I keep trying to figure out how to go about this off-season as just a fun exercise. Maybe I’ll think more about it and have something by Friday/early next week haha edit: none of my ideas involve trading for Perez lol but signing Garver has now made its way interesting my mind
  11. Trade for Perez Sign Merrifield Sign Mondesi for SS (decline TA option) Sign Moustakas as left-handed bench bat/backup 1B/3B Sign Greinke Missing anyone else? Edit: trade Vaughn, sign Hosmer
  12. Yeah, at that point, the MLB would probably be hoping Philly makes it.
  13. I don't care who the sources are. I 1000000% believe this lol Edit: I don't think I would necessarily hate a Merrifield signing, but hell no to a Perez trade.
  14. Yeah if you were going to go with "old white guy has won a world series before" you might as well have gone with Bochy haha
  15. Only Caulfield can keep a Padres thread alive on a White Sox message board in October.
  16. Prefer him at 2B than SS…
  17. Yeah looks like he was injured all year and didn’t play at all.
  18. I vote make them start the wild card series the Monday after the season ends. Then they can play a 3-game series over 3 days (no off days in this scenario) and they can start division series Friday.
  19. Target free agents from teams that have been in the playoffs consistently last few years. Even if it’s just a veteran bench guy or role player type.
  20. Like the 04-05 off-season where they brought in like 8 guys.
  21. They can't be anymore unlikeable of a group. Gotta try anything at this point.
  22. I also don't think there's much evidence that proves being off the field for almost a week is the reason why these teams are losing. This could be the results regardless. Baseball gonna baseball.
