  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:59 PM) Who else is likely bound for the rotation at Charlotte other than Kopech? Not really sure but also a good point. Charlotte probably also need starters.
  2. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:57 PM) And you wonder why people think you're a troll. Stop trolling, and maybe people will stop calling you a troll. And FYI his peripherals aren't very good, which is why he's a 5th starter on a one year 4.5 million dollar deal. Best case the Sox flip him for a lotto ticket in July. Yep...just as they did in 2017.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:40 PM) Why? Rodon and Kopech figure to be in the plans too. That's 7 total starters. After this signing, we have enough depth Doesn't hurt to bring in a veteran on a minor league deal to compete with Fulmer for a spot.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:46 PM) Hack it. My buddy put 200 more games on his. I can find instructions if you need them I don't own it...yet. Can you send them to me? I'd appreciate it.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:41 PM) Miguel is OK by me. How were his peripherals before I decide whether he's good or not. I don't despise him or anything. As far as Shields/Opening Day. Geez. If he pitches Opening Day it's telling the world and our fans: "The White Sox wish to tank one more season. Please bear with us as we tank. And please enjoy your 25 dollar parking and 10 dollar beer. We are allowed to charge that while giving you James Shields one more season before we get good. That is all." The order of the rotation doesn't matter. It's probably a good business move to have him start opening day on a Thursday since the other 2 games on Saturday and Sunday could be Giolito and Lopez games that may draw some fans (though it is early April).
  6. Kind of amazing to me that the Super NES Classic doesn't have two of the best games on it: Sunset Riders and Zombies Ate My Neighbors.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 11:28 AM) Shields could be dropped to the pen also and no one would be mad. Heck, with a rotation that young I wouldn't mind going to a 6 man rotation for a few weeks either if the roster could take it. I'm sure they will at times just to help the young arms and give more rest.
  8. So the rotation on opening day is shaped up to be: Giolito, Lopez, Fulmer, Gonzalez, Shields (no specific order)?
  9. Jacob May dfa'd.
  10. I think the fact that it is a MLB deal is just goodwill by the organization since they seem to like Miguel.
  11. I'd give them 24-hours to accept my offer. If he doesn't accept, pull it. They (JD and Boras) will come crawling back.
  12. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 10:52 AM) I'm okay with this. Better than Covey. Is this a minor league deal? MLB deal.
  13. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 10:19 AM) Wonder if this means Saladino's back is still an issue. If Yolmer at third and Leury in CF, no back up SS. If everyone healthy, get AAA at bats. Although those guys would be starting, they would still be backup options at SS. Yolmer would just slide over to short with Davidson at 3B or Engel (or other 4th OF) plays CF with Garcia at SS.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:54 AM) If it means getting Everth Cabrera out of organization it's a great move. He hasn't been in our organization since July.
  15. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:27 AM) This is completely anecdotal but I actually worked at a Wal-Mart for about 3 years in the early 2000s. I don't remember how much I was actually making, probably around $7/hour or so. Maybe $8/hour. It was simply a second job for me so I didn't care all that much. Most of the people I worked with were either younger (HS/college age) and didn't have a family to support or were a second income for their family. Their spouse worked somewhere else and made decent enough money. Most of the people that were the main bread-winnners for their family were in supervisor or management positions where they made more money. According to one of the articles I read the average salary for their full-time workers is already $13. So I wonder what percentage of their workforce this will actually affect. I also read that the bonus is UP TO $1000 based on service time. Only employees with 20 years of service will get the full $1000. This is exactly how these types of jobs are supposed to be unless you are in management at the company, IMO. Of course you aren't going to be paid great.
  16. QUOTE (ron883 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:09 AM) Really going out on a limb here huh Bet the house on it!
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 09:13 AM) Covey time I've got him pegged for long-reliever/spot starter at time to give guys more rest. More possibly though, he doesn't make the team.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 08:29 AM) Hasn't there been a number of teams saying they're interested in him? Yeah there has. And I guess he wants a 1-year deal. He should probably go somewhere like Minnesota where the team can be competitive again and the ballpark could help his numbers.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 05:29 PM) My guess is Hector Santiago or Jesse Chavez Yeah probably. Add Tillman to this list.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 06:15 AM) Considering all the teams that will be spending cash next year, if the White Sox have any chance at Machado winning 65-70 games isn't going to help the cause unless JR gives him an offer that is not very similar to the rest. There is no doubt in my mind they want him, but if the money is the same, I think he picks the Yankees. He will have to Cano him but with an extra truck of cash than Cano received. Well yeah if the money is the same, I wouldn't expect him to sign here. They'd have to offer the most.
  21. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 09:31 PM) How do you have a blown save while not allowing a run to score? It's either he meant earned run or accidentally entered 0.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 01:06 PM) Wait, what? Under what circumstances and accomplishments would someone consider Oprah the smartest woman alive??? He wasn't making that statement meaning he actually believes it. He's saying he doesn't know. The next 4 words you didn't bold imply that.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 02:37 PM) I don't have a post in that thread. Must be somewhere else. A lot of satisfaction in that thread though. Peripherals. And after the talk of peripherals, there is talk of "best case." Again, no one is saying they are 100% certain he will be good or great. Just that there is reason for hope. I would bet on him being mediocre rather than great, however.
  24. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Jan 9, 2018 -> 01:48 PM) I just think it's funny that anyone would brag about predicting that Felipe Paulinio wouldn't do well Lol I was thinking the same. Paulino had no track record of success while Soria at least has that going for him (though as pointed out, he's 34 now).
