  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) Unless Moncada goes 0-18 with 16 ks and 2 GIDP Yeah...let's hope this doesn't happen.
  2. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 10:30 AM) I just see this series as a win-win no matter what happens. This is how I feel. I'm hoping to spoil the Cubs but can rationalize the losses.
  3. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 06:53 PM) because Hawk says? Meh...doesn't work for everybody unless you practice it on a daily basis. You can't just automatically choke up and be comfortable and expect better results. No, not because he says guys should. Even though he is correct and guys should choke up more.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 09:35 AM) Another outcome of this series- let's hope Moncada has a real batting average on Friday morning. That more than any won-loss outcome is what I'd like to see. Yeah I really want to see him rake these next 4 days.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 08:51 AM) This stuff drives me crazy, folks. Good news: The White Sox will try to win the games. Better news: The White Sox suck and so they will prolly lose anyways. Best news: Cheer for whatever the hell you want - it doesn't make a damned difference. +1000000000
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 08:37 AM) I'm good with anything, but for me, if some miracle happens where they give the Cubs four losses and they lose the division by a game, that would be pretty awesome. That said, the Cubs will win 3 or 4, and then it'll be over. Then back to trade deadline stuff. Probably.
  7. Want the Sox to win at least 2 but if they lose 3 or all 4, at least it helps the tank.
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 11:21 PM) We should start threads for just the two of us and anybody else who wants to win games now. Seriously. Think how cool it'd be. We could discuss the current team's chances of winning games; and the others wouldn't have to see our posts about wanting to win games. I love El Rockin!! The best fan in the history of the White Sox, or one of 'em! Does it matter to you if the Sox win 60 for 70 games? If you're not first you're last.
  9. It seems like no matter how each team is, they split the season series. I'm predicting 2-2.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 12:25 AM) Rizzo does it when he has 2 strikes. I'm shocked more players don't do it more when they're down in the count. Rizzo and Votto choke up pretty high.
  11. QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 01:23 AM) Still sitting in 3rd, Phillies won today, Padres and Giants tied in the 10th Only 5.5 back from Phils. Hopefully, Padres take 3/4 as I think Giants will be better than they were earlier this season. A split wouldn't be terrible.
  12. QUOTE (FT35 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 02:15 PM) He seems like a nice prospect too! I agree--middle infield could use some depth if Moncada stays at 3B. I think people are high on Carson Kelly because he's such a high-end defensive catcher who can rake. The combo is RARE. What I like is he's a converted 3B--meaning he's got a little extra mileage on his knees from being somewhat new to the position. The more it sounds, they believe Collins will have every opportunity to be our primary catcher someday--but it's such an important position to have a couple guys who are capable of playing it at a high level (a position I feel we have "plugged" to some degree in the past--mostly because good catchers rarely become available). Having 2 solid catchers in the system allows you rest knees, play matchups (Collins bats left--Kelly right), and allows certain battery combinations to form good rapport (Like the Wakefield/Mirabelli combo in Boston). Stays? He's currently not there.
  13. Could also see someone like Grichuk or Piscotty get moved in a change of scenery type of move. Both have struggled.
  14. Zach Duke activated off the dl. That seems like a quick TJ recovery.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) Good, he should be up already, August OF of Delmonico-Engel-Avi L-R Ideally for me, it's: Delmonico-Engel-W. Garcia with someone overpaying for Avi
  16. QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 09:28 AM) Rays? The Twins and Royals could use him, but inside the division might be difficult. He's a rental who likely won't cost a lot so I don't think the same division stuff is an obstacle.
  17. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 07:33 AM) Jose Ramirez...Baez...Profar, etc. A SS can play almost anywhere. We have four guys like that right now, although SANCHEZ and Hansen are lacking arm for regular SS play. I think he just means in the minors in the pipeline. And I'm not sure Sanchez, Hansen, nor Saladino are starting caliber SS's.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 07:25 AM) Even Kevan Smith has been surprisingly not awful. Yeah seems like he could a competent backup. I'm a fan of having a lefty starting catcher and a righty backup.
  19. The most annoying sac bunt is seeing a speedy guy hit a lead off double to start an inning only for the next guy to attempt to move him over to third. I hate that. Give yourself 3 chances to bring him in as opposed to 2. The only bunt I am a fan of is the drag bunt or bunt for base hit from a speedster.
  20. Honestly, is there ever a decent amount of catchers that project to stay behind the plate when drafted? It doesn't seem like it yet every team has them. Plus, hasn't he improved since last year?
  21. QUOTE (Scoots @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 04:32 AM) So, short-term thinking, what does the rotation realistically look like for 2018? You'd have to think Giolito is going to get his shot at his first full major league stint, regardless how bad he is at AAA this season. Lopez is probably there. Rodon obviously. Who else? I dont think Dunning will be up at the start of the season. Shields and Holland will be gone, (thank goodness), so who mans the other 2 spots? Another couple rentals?? Or are we trying our luck with Holmberg again? Is it a slamdunk that Shields, who is signed for next year, is gone?
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 05:26 PM) I think we will catch them. We are only beginning our suck. They have gone through the worst IMO. unlikely they even shed many pieces. We also play them 3 games later on. Could be crucial.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 04:23 PM) Right now, your backups at 1B are probably Saladino and Davidson. Your backups in the OF are probably Saladino and Hanson. Your backups at 2B, SS, and 3B are Saladino and Sanchez. There are enough ABs spread throughout the field that Saladino gets his AB's throughout the field and everyone else gets enough playing time otherwise. Yep, and that open DH spot gets someone more at bats or rests a regular every day.
  24. QUOTE (Username @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 03:08 PM) Look, I really like Yolmer too. But his trade value isn't going to improve if he's our backup middle infield guy. What makes him hard to give up - youth and control - also give him value right now over rental players. His peak value is a glove-first 2B with some bat value. Not as a part time or utility piece. Yes, he's got some position versatility. But his bat isn't going to play up well at 3B or even a corner OF spot. Edit: he's especially redundant when we've got a potential super-utility guy in Leury, who can play basically anywhere. Now, if you're worried about Tim and want to hold onto Yolmer in case he's the better long-term option? Now I see your argument. I am completely ok trading him if the offer is there.
