It would be hard for him to get regular at-bats in the NL and succeed. Say he makes 30 starts: that's about 2-3 at bats a game. He can pinch hit once in every other game and when the NL team is the away team in an AL park, he can DH. That come out to what, 150ish at bats? If he goes to the Cubs, maybe he will split LF with Schwarber and play there 2 games between starts. Game 1: pitches. Game 2: rest day. Games 3 and 4 he plays OF until like the 7th/8th inning (enough to get 2-3 at bats). Game 5: rests. Repeat.

If he's going to consider the Cubs he might as well consider the Yankees.

I don't really get the whole West Coast draw for Japanese players. Theres maybe one break in the season where he would be able to go back home and if he is an All-Star, he wouldn't be able to go home anyway. Is it more for family to visit?
