QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:21 AM) Dan HayesVerified account @CSNHayes Rick Hahn didn't think anything was imminent -- "but still thoroughly engaged, deeply engaged on a number of different fronts." #WhiteSox Beautiful.

Reclamation projects to buy/claim/flip....

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 10:24 AM) Miguel Montero would be the ideal acquisition. I agree. We have financial flexibility and he wouldn't cost a lot. Cubs pitchers liked throwing to him and I think he was a positive mentor towards Contreras (who still needs work himself). -
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:31 AM) When is Beer eligible to be drafted? Sign me up for tanking Supposedly 2018. Go for worst record next season!

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 09:09 AM) The meetings end when the Rule 5 is completed. Travel day. Don't expect anything today, and maybe not until next week. Not necessarily. Sox and Mariners talked Viciedo til late afternoon on the last day a few years ago. -

If I were Stros, I'd offer Encarnacion like a 4-year deal with an opt out after year 1. He will end up signing something similar to Cespedes laat year I think. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 08:11 AM) Doesn't seem like a guy who can stick or a bullpen candidate. Odd pick Was hoping for a lefty or Cave. -

You guys think we'll take anyone else? We're at 39 now according to mlbtr. -

Worth noting that we pick 9th. Edit: Braves released a guy right before draft so 10th. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:44 AM) See future Sox article for preview. Sox at risk for losing Will Lamb or Nick Delmonico. Some interesting speed guys available. Possibly. I think we take a left handed pitcher to see if he sticks in the pen. Don't think we will lose Delmonico. -

How is Smith defensively? Could we platoon him and Narvaez? Any possible cast-offs on other teams that are good defensively? Maybe try to acquire Montero? Don't know. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:08 AM) There are no good defensive catchers. And I hate idea of pairing Rodon with garbage again. Maybe suck it up with Pena? Pair Rodon up wity Narvaez. Let a year signing of Wieters (potentially) or someone else catch the other garbage we sign and Shields. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 07:02 AM) Rasmus -keep Avi at DH Derrick Holland - if cheap. Don't need relief pitchers Will have to find a vet stopgap catcher soon esp if pitching prospects start moving up. That was another smart thing Theo did I disagree. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:16 AM) I realize the fire sale isn't over. Quintana could very well be traded, Robertson SHOULD be traded, maybe even Abreau and/or Frazier could go. As it stands now, the Sox are probably in need of an outfielder, a catcher, and a starting pitcher. They may eventually need some infield and relief pitching help. So, what do we see the Sox doing? Signing a few veterans to merely be stopgaps or signing some players that could build some value and be traded at the deadline? I imagine many of the free agents out there would like to play for a contender, but not all of them will be able to. For outfielders, I could see a guy like Coco Crisp, Drew Stubbs, or Jeff Francoeur being a stopgap. There aren't a lot of options at catcher, but on a rebuilding team who cares? Hanigan, Avila, Suzuki, Saltalamacchia, Soto...these guys are possibilities. And as far as starting pitching, we've heard Holland's name. I've also seen someone suggest Fister. What are your thoughts? Who could you see the Sox signing to be part of year one of our rebuild? I posted this in the other thread, but Rasmus would be a good buy-low one year gamble.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 06:39 AM) Why can't we pay him $10M. We'll have plenty of financial flexibity to add a piece or two like him. This. Its perfectly ok overpaying. I really hope we take on some bad expiring contracts if it means a prospect comes along with it (like what the Braves have done). -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2016 -> 05:53 AM) I get a kick out of the people who say they will go to more games this year. Maybe there is a chance you will but overall people won't. If the teams the last 5 or 6 years were hard to watch, and last year's team was actually really good at home, the 2017 team is going to be hard to stomach. What is compelling about watching Derek Holland give up homers and if the don't leave the yard, watching Avi Garcia chase the down? Nothing. Maybe in a couple of years, but if you thought the baseball was too bad to watch before, it isn't going to be better this year. And I have season tickets. Even Cubs fans stayed away to a certain extent when they did what the Sox are doing. Right? Lol a lot of these guys won't start off the season in the majors. Their MLB team will look a lot worse. I will still go to about the same amount of games only with no expectations and just enjoying a day/night at the ballpark with good friends and beer. -
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go

Saw on mlbtr that Rockies are looking for bullpen help and another starter. Quintana and Robertson! Get it done! Edit: actually, what could a Q, Robertson and Jennings deal look like? -
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 11:19 PM) Hope he signs and then Turner goes elsewhere. Dodgers come running to us for Robertson/Frazier I still think they trade for Dozier and sign Turner. Infield complete.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 08:23 PM) Reed is falling in value; I know a lot of people here like him,but his cup of coffee really wasn't good. I might go for more volume here, assuming no Bregman. Astros have a lot of really good, but not elite, prospects, particularly position players. You must hate Giolito and Moncada then. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:23 PM) Double check that. QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:25 PM) I thought they were at 38 earlier and this move would put them at 39? Maybe I misread. I mis-read his first comment.

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
Bob Sacamano replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:21 PM) Q is next. Have a feeling we'll get a headline position player for him, along with pitching. My theory is that you can never trade a TOR guy without acquiring some form of pitching talent back. Or a smaller deal like Robertson. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 05:15 PM) Eaton subtracted. Giolito and Reynoso added. I believe the Sox are at 39 and can pick somebody tomorrow. That would make it 40.
