  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 17, 2015 -> 11:31 PM) i honestly want to say, imo the sox weren't too sure of what kind of player they had in Jose A. so they needed insurance just in case, plus it gave them, the sox a nice chance to say good bye to Paulie. I agree. And Paulie didn't take at bats away from anyone important (just Dunn really). I wish they would have used him more often last year. He seemed to never really pinch hit late in games (even when T-Flow was struggling like the entire middle of the season).
  2. I don't think they need a straight platoon for LaRoche. Maybe just adjust the lineup against lefties. Something like: 1. Eaton CF 2. Ramirez SS 3. Abreu 1B 4. Garcia RF 5. Cabrera LF (he has been seeing at bats in the middle of the order this spring) 6. LaRoche DH/1B (heck, play him at 1B to give him more value on those days) then 7-9
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 15, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) 4-10 vs Min Noesi I would love if they would manipulate this to not happen. Would love for Sale to somehow pitch
  4. So it's safe to say Micah (as of now) is the starting 2B?
  5. Bonifacio CF: 10 - soxfan2014 Cabrera LF: 5 - staxx, CarlosMartinez LaRoche 1B: 3 - joejoedairy Garcia RF: 5 - Condor13, TouchemAllJoe, Blackout Friday Gillaspie 3B: 7 - hi8is, Jose Abreu Saladino SS: 8 - jimmy Brantly C: 5 - JoshuaStrong Soto DH: 5 - buehrle> wood, shysocks, Sanchez 2B: 10 - Bench: 10 -
  6. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Mar 8, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) Didn't Konerko steal at bats from him? It certainty didn't make any sense for the Sox to carry three 1B/DH types last year Leury would not have gotten the at bats. Not as many. Konerko only took at bats away from Dunn really.
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 6, 2015 -> 06:05 PM) i know it is only 1 game, but do you think he may be ready at the beginning of the season or a little more seasoning is needed in the minors?? stuff wise. Put him in the minors. Call him up later so we can hold that extra year of control over him because Boras.
  8. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 5, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) For some reason I doubt this thread would have been made if he went 0-2 yesterday instead of 2-2. Pretty much this
  9. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 2, 2015 -> 07:16 PM) More like two weeks. It would be really, really stupid not finding a way to keep him down for a couple of weeks to start the season. Hell, we really don't even need a 5th starter for the first two weeks due to off days. Even with the Sale injury, I see no reason Rodon would be needed short of another injury. They should use a 5th starter the first run through the rotation. Who ever opens as the 2 starter will get 3 days rest before second start and theres no point of doing that early.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 2, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) Like Rob did with second base, we now take a look at the 5-player field for backup catcher: Soto, Brantly, Kottaras, Nieto and Smith. Who does SoxTalk think wins the job? Probably more to the point, who is most likely if for some reason it isn't Soto? Soto but if he's hurt Kottaras or Brantly.
  11. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Feb 27, 2015 -> 01:36 PM) I would risk that. As would I
  12. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=12377229&...=espnapi_public Kurkjian with Sale and Shark
  13. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 14, 2015 -> 12:39 AM) How many injuries would have to take place for delmonico to get called up this year? Gillaspie Beckham Bonifacio Garcia Davidson Those five at least.
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 04:51 PM) its not going to happen, he is young and controllable for more yrs, plus his salary if 600 k +/-. Have to agree. With Zimmermann and Fister being free agents after this year, they need Roark. Fister I can see resigning with the Nats as I can't see him costing as much as Zimmerman. My vote still goes to Beachy. Offer him what the Royals gave Medlen (he is under team control for two years, but we can guarantee him the second year if that's what it takes).
  15. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 01:35 PM) thanks for that info, but i am wondering, if he signs in july 20, will the team be penalize next yr in ref to int'l signing? If he waits long enough then yeah it'll a part of next year's signing period.
  16. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 16, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) again, the other question, if Yoan signs after this yr int't signing period, when can he sign so it won't be affecting the salary until next yr??? Well his salary would be league minimum in the majors but I think teams are able to pay his signing bonus over the next 3 years while the tax has to be paid within a month I believe.
  17. Love this signing. Even if he doesn't make the team out of Spring Training, it's nice to have veteran depth stashed away in the minors. Unlike last year when we had to keep trotting out almost-30 year old rookies to pitch in games for us with no experience. I don't know why people are hating this minor league deal.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 11, 2015 -> 05:46 PM) I don't think Shields fit their MO this offseason. They were looking for moves that didn't cripple them in the long term, and given that Shields still got $19 mill a year, he's older, and his signing would have prevented several other possible moves (nevermind getting burnt as badly as they did on Danks), I think it was more geared toward a younger player. Right or wrong, I think they have enough confidence in Danks/Noesi/Rodon/Beck/Johnson/Penny to cover the 4 & 5 spots in the rotation. The Sox have a few different areas of weakness right now, but the 3 biggest are probably 3B, 2B, and C. They may have checked on Headley, but that sort of falls in line with the Shields dilemma - older player needing a sizable multi-year deal. It could have been Sandoval too, but I think that was more due diligence on their end. There could be 2B they looked into as well, but I think they want to see what they have in Sanchez and Johnson. That leaves catcher, and with the number of catchers they've brought in or had in house that are OK and really nothing more - Flowers, Brantly, Kottaras, Soto, Nieto, Smith - that, to me, seems like the most likely target. If it was Castro, I'm guessing they thought they may be able to buy low and when the Astros asked for Danish or Montas, the Sox backed away. I'm not saying they offered him a deal that would cripple them. Maybe they offered like 3/45 with the hope of drawing him in with current roster anf him as a number 4 giving them 4 strong with possibly Rodon too.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2015 -> 04:31 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 3m3 minutes ago Williams said there was one more move "that really would have been nice" that didn't materialize. Any guesses? If hes just saying it today, then I'm going Shields. Sox are never rumored to be in on anyone until a deal is close and the Padres, Cubs, and another unknown team or two were in the mix.
  20. I think Venable is a lock to stay on that team. All 3 other outfielders are right handed and Venable can be a late inning replacement. Then they probably hold onto another if there is one able to play some outfield and a little infield, even first base. I think that guy is Dickerson, especially if Alonso struggles again. Quentin seems like a guy who will probably get dfa'd by the end of camp. Liriano will be in the minors and probably play next year in the majors when Upton leaves. Maybin and Quentin are probably the ones ths will get traded or dfa'd.
  21. name='southsider2k5' date='Feb 10, 2015 -> 08:01 AM' post='3114441'] At the cost we are talking about here ($80 million + no real international signings for two years) to me it isn't worth it. Well, the two years thing may be irrelevant as they will probably move towards an international draft soon.
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 9, 2015 -> 05:41 AM) Depends on how Shields performs, and when/if he gets injured. He should be okay in the NL West, one would think. They still have a current outfield of Kemp, Maybin, Myers, Quentin, J. Upton and Venable, lol. They've already traded Seth Smith. Maybe the White Sox should reacquire CQ for LaRoche's at-bats against lefties? Maybin would be an interesting piece as well (4th OF), depending on how much salary they were willing to eat. YEah I'm kinda glad Shields went to SD. Always been a fan of his and between pitching half his games in that ballpark along with starts in LA and SF he should be effective longer.
  23. Is this guy ever going to sign? Might as well wait for Spring Training and injuries to occur at this point.
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 7, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) Reasons to not go for him: Save that money for Samardzija Or if you resign Samardzija before next offseason, use itto make a competitive offer for someone like Cueto Or see if one of Montas Danish can get to the show in time. Don't really see them giving Shark an extension along with throwing money around to someone else. I think they should sign Beachy now, and then either extend Shark or go for someone else next off season. Maybe get involved with one of the last guys to sign when his price is down.
  25. If Ventura fails this year, hire Gardenhire.
