  1. QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 06:26 PM) 1.I saw the Braves are going to Non-Tender both these guys. They both have surgery before last season. 2.The timetable for Tommy John Surgery Canidates is usually 12-14 months. One could imagine that both would be able to contribute to next seasons roster. 3. I would think they would be worth a flyers on with incentive laden deals. A team could probably give them two year deals. White Sox are in need of right handed starting pitching. At the very least, you could have them come out of the bullpen. 4. Both of them are in the prime of their careers so age is not a factor. The only negative is this is the second Tommy John Surgery for both of them. You wonder if the stuff will still be there. My Question Deal or No Deal? Absolutely. Medlen has 2 years of control and Beachy has 3
  2. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 05:14 PM) They should not not-tender him. He has talent - give him one more year. I also saw that the Brave non-tendered Medlen. I'd check him out. Medlen AND Beachy. Medlen recently turned 29 and Beachy 28. Sign either one of them though they may not be ready til May but still.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 12:13 AM) Upton does not seem like the type to sign an extension when he's this close to free agency. This would be a rental or turn into an overpay, IMO. My thoughts exactly. With a huge year and being a free agent at 28, he will get a 6-8 year deal about 25 mill a season
  4. Nelson Cruz to Seattle on a 4-year deal. They should just go all in and trade a good package for Alexei
  5. QUOTE (glangon @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 09:18 AM) I'd be surprised if we sign Melky as a free agent and give up a draft pick based on our signings and trade attempts so far. Hahn has not willingly given up a draft pick last year or so far this year and that is with protected picks and I'd be shocked to see that this year unless it was for someone like Scherzer. Yeah I feel like if we don't sign him, I have no clue what we will do to try to improve LF. No one on here wants them to spend money and we don't really have the prospects to try to acquire a legit upgrade. We can only hope teams that have guys blocked in the OF (much like Eaton) are willing to move them cheap.
  6. I think it's too early to call Tank at platoon bat (though I think he ends up being one long term). He's going to be 26 when the season starts and just came off a 20 homer season. In a game with rare right-handed power, a team may be willing take a flyer on him (and I would have guessed a deal with Oakland before they signed Butler). Maybe a deal with Cincinnati since they lack a left fielder? Failed starter who may be able to stick in a bullpen for tank?
  7. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 06:50 PM) I'd like the Sox to get creative in dealing Danks. If we can't get a salary swap for one of the Dodgers OFs, perhaps they could send him to Pittsburgh along with a bunch of cash for Travis Snider. Someone says: but that's too much money to pay to get Snider!! Yes, but Danks money is already spent. Danks + free agent OF costs WAY MORE than Snider/cash to Pirates + Bassit/Rodon Other than that, I'd rather see Sanchez traded than Semien Not a big Snider fan personally
  8. I think the only deal I'd offer for Samardzija is built around either Semien or Sanchez, Beck (and maybe a similar arm), and then Trayce Thompson? Not a great deal from us but certainly is more of a quantity over quality package, especially if he doesn't sign an extension prior.
  9. Samardzija doesn't have a whole lot of innings on his arm either being a reliever until his mid-20s about. I'm perfectly ok giving him a 5 year deal
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) The other thing to keep in mind is that t. Dodgers have Guerrero, Arrebuena and especially Nick Gordon. Two of those three guys could definitely play SS. Or they have options like S.Castro, Lowrie, Stephew Drew and Asdrubal Cabrera. Maybe Marco Scutaro. As someone mentioned, they also could target Eduardo Escobar, since the Twins want Santana at SS instead of CF eventually. Tulowitzki's out there, possibly. I think out of the guys you mentioned, only Arruebarrena is capable of playing short and reports don't like his bat. By Nick Gordon you mean Dee Gordon and he is the second baseman and Guerrero sounds like he can't handle second or short and likely to end up in the outfield.
  11. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 10:49 AM) Here's a hypothetical trade idea. What if the sox sent alexei to the dodgers for kemp and 32 million. Basically it would make the sox only paying AAV at 15 million a year. The Dodgers would save 5 million AAV the next 2 yrs and 15 million AAV after that. I would say kemp would be worth the 15 million AAV if he stays healthy. Figure you would have 2 yrs of kemp in the field and can then dh some after that with Laroche off the books. Otherwise I would like see alexei dealt for younger talent that is major league ready and preferably pitching. Yeah if Alexei isn't dealt for top young talent I wouldn't mind him going for Kemp personally.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 07:26 AM) Seems to be the next man out of Boston. You'd have to trade for him, then sign him. He's Cuban, so there's that. I could see some sort of deal with the Tigers and Red Sox. I don't think they have anyone in RF coming up. I could see a Porcello for Cespedes and a prospect swap
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) It requires giving up a 40 man spot if someone does right? I'd say that makes it unlikely. And he looked horrible last year in his stint in the Majors.
  14. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 24, 2014 -> 06:41 AM) Actually the red Sox are still trying to get sandoval. The rumors are Handley ramirez might play left field and red Sox still sign panda for 3rd. They suffered with Manny in left for 8 years so anything's possible
  15. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/athl...ed-hitters.html I know it's not as much of a priority anymore, but I would think we would still have interest in Reddick and Jaso. A's are looking for middle infield and that's the one spot we can afford to lose a guy or 2. Sounds like something to keep an eye on as it makes sense for both teams to at least discuss a deal. Jaso isn't a catcher anymore but I'd also be interested in Moss to play left
  16. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 09:37 PM) I'm thinking we are the last team McCarthy would join. He and KW dislike each other, no? I remember bad blood there. If I remember correctly he grew up a Sox fan so maybe
  17. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 09:18 PM) Exactly. He WAS a MVP caliber player; today, he's a good hitter. He's trending downward. He's moping in L.A. and has a terrible contract. The Sox just got rid of bad contracts. They don't need someone else's problem. Trade Alexei for the best young talent the Sox can get. .287 avg .346 obp 25 homers...guy quietly put together a great year
  18. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 07:52 PM) Saladino vs. Diaz for the starting SS job?? Dude, it's not shaping up that way at all. Diaz was added for AAA depth, nothing more. Saladino projects as a useful utility guy once healthy. I seriously doubt Hahn considers either guy a starting caliber player. And I'd be completely shocked if Hahn preferred either guy as a temporary SS fill-in over Semien or Sanchez. In fact, if he's willing to deal Alexei after signing LaRoche, then I'm guessing he's confident one of Semien & Sanchez can handle the SS job. He's not going to give a AAAA player or a fringe prospect 600 plate appearances if they're trying to compete. And what track record are you referring to when you mention Semien's minor league SS defense? If Diaz is the starting shortstop at any point next season something went horribly wrong lol
  19. QUOTE (bear_brian @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 06:24 PM) Dodgers want a major league shortstop and want to reduce payroll and open up room in the outfield for Pederson. This deal has the Sox taking on all of Kemp's obligation with the exception of the $12M in cash. Phillies have tired of Papelbon, have lots of unknowns in their own starting staff. We have too many holes in the rotation as is. I don't see the Dodgers sending us money and a prospect for Kemp either
  20. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 05:29 PM) Yup and that's pretty obvious with the way Sox have used Semien so far. Balta's idea of using Semien as a platoon partner for LaRoche makes a ton of sense as well as platoon with Gillaspie at third and Johnson/Sanchez at second. There will be plenty of atbats for Semien this year. I kinda hate to say this but Semien could very well be used the way Maddon used Keppinger in Tampa. While it probably is best for someone to take at bats here and there against lefties from LaRoche and Gillaspie, I hate to use a guy who has a potential. Semien may not fit here at short (if he loses the battle at second) but another team may want him for his potential bat and to start more often at second. I think I'd rather see him included in some sort of deal, but in the end if he doesn't go anywhere then it is what it is I guess.
  21. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 04:00 PM) As far as the Kemp/ego thing goes, a personal observation is that he would probably be much happier and more productive away from Hollywood. Agree. And the guy is an MVP caliber player. Would love him and Abreu back to back
  22. QUOTE (Lillian @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 03:51 PM) This is the best info on his defense that I can find: http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/gett...-loving-gloves/ It's from last month and states: " has a plus arm he used to lead Pacific Coast League shortstops in assists (325), putouts (156) and double plays (70)". If we don't acquire someone else to play short IF we trade Alexei, I'm open to the competition
  23. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 03:58 PM) Why is everyone laying awake at night thinking of ways to prevent Semien from being the everyday SS? No clue. I'm open to competition in Spring Training
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 03:50 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if Saladino performed this year, but I've got to see him some post-injury at Charlotte first. That's where Diaz could fit in, no idea how long Saladino's comeback will take. I thought someone posted an article in a thread recently that said he will be ready by spring training, but I could be wrong.
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 23, 2014 -> 03:37 PM) I hope to god Leury Garcia is not the regular SS if Alexei is moved. I don't care how good some of you think he is or might be defensively, he is absolutely dreadful with the bat. He should be in AAA next year getting consistent at-bats. Semien & Sanchez both provide superior short-term solutions at SS. This. That would be awful
