Paul Konerko 2020 Hall Of Fame
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 11:17 AM) Absolutely Paulie should be in the Hall of Fame! The Chicago White Sox Hall of Fame! As for Buehrle...you have to factor in the 2005 Postseason as well. Won a game and saved a game in the same post season, which if I remember correctly, may not have been done before. Part of the 4 complete games in a row. Buehrle is a fringe HOF but I think he's one of those guys that needs to be seen beyond the statistics. Definitely becoming the norm lately.

2017 Catch All thread
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 12:57 PM) http://patch.com/illinois/palos/john-grana...parents-verdict I don't know how much publicity this story has been getting across Chicagoland or perhaps even nationally but this has been surreal to me. For those unfamiliar, back in September of 2011, a kid from Palos Park, my hometown, plotted with his friends to kill his parents. Granat paid his three friends (1 driver, 2 killers) about 36,000 in cash to take part in the murder. Once the parents went to sleep the two killers went in their bedroom and whacked them with bats and stabbed them until they died. They disposed of all the evidence at the kid Wyma's house. Granat left Wyma's house and 4AM and was pulled over with a broken taillight on the way home and he had bleach in his car. He called in the murder at 7AM and the cop that pulled him over responded to the murder call. John was arrested that day. The other three kids walked free for another 4 weeks and were arrested four Sundays later. I was sitting in class the Friday before the other three kids got arrested and Wyma ditched his class came in my class to talk to his friend. He was saying "John could never do that. He loves his parents so much. His lawyer says he'll be out soon." Two days later the kid gets charged with a double murder. There's plenty of gruesome articles on the patch where the kid Ehab gave his full account of what happened for a lenient 40 year sentence. It's just crazy how things happened. I went to school with Granat from 6th grade until senior year when he got locked up. He was a total weirdo. He would just kind of sit in the back of class, never said much and kind of awkwardly laughed at stuff. He was translucent pale and probably 140 pounds as a 17 year old. I would guess he was on the spectrum. I was friendly with him but he was kind of a wallflower so I wouldn't really deal with him. In 8th grade, he started acting out a bit and I had some random encounters with him. Nothing crazy but he started hanging out with the tough crowd and was always doing weird stuff with money. His parents owned a construction company and always had cash hanging around the house. He took some girl shopping at the mall and spent over a G on her. We were like 15. She then ignored him and never gave him any attention. He would buy his friends lunch almost everyday. He was always good for five bucks if you were in a pinch. Anyways, 8th grade was probably the height of my troublemaking times primarily because one of my best friends from baseball named Dan (now a homeless drug addict tragically) was a huge troublemaker and his single mom was helicopter nurse working 24 hour shifts so we did whatever we wanted. It was at this time I'd see Granat out every once in a while. If there was a big fight or someone had alcohol, stuff like that. I never had rides anywhere and he only lived a couple miles away so I'd go over there Dan's all the time and Granat would be around there. We had Presidents Day off so I just rode over to my buddy Dan's. Dan invited this gangbanger Hamza (now dead ironically) over. Hamza was like, "Hey I have John Granat coming by I am going to sell him two bottles of Captain Morgan. We just have to hang out with him for a half hour and then I am going to take liquor back" So Granat comes over and sits with us for a bit awkwardly while we watched Goodfellas. They exchange booze and alcohol and John says he's going to leave. Right when he does, Hamza goes, "Give me that liquor back or I'll beat the f*** out of you." Granat just stares at him. Hamza cracks him in the face. Granat keeps staring. Hamza hits him again. Granat keeps staring. Hamza takes the booze forcefully and tells him to leave. Granat, now bleeding, tells Hamza "You'll regret this. You don't know what I am capable of." Hamza just started laughing at him and pushed him to door taunting him. I felt bad for Granat but I wasn't about to piss off perhaps the toughest kid in my then mostly-prissy school. I remember thinking it was pretty crazy that such a weak kid was just eating shots and wasn't crying, wasn't fighting back, wasn't running or anything. I never really thought of anything until the murders happened. I am just rambling but the whole ordeal and memory put things in perspectives for me. That day will be 10 years ago next month. Of the four kids who I was with that day, one will be sentenced to 100+ years in jail, one was shot to death in a drug deal a few years ago, one has been off the map for years as a heroin addict and then there's me just wasting my valuable work time on a Sox forum. I do remember this happening! I'm 25 so I was 20 in college at that time. I just remembered being disgusted with the story.

2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 10:12 PM) Christ Astros you're facing 3 teams in your division that should now be .500 or better and you have that rotation. I'm not even sure you're a 2nd wild card. Agreed. And Rangers still probably add a bat to the 1B/DH rotation.

What low-key Sox prospect are you most excited to get a chance
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 10:38 PM) Without going to baseball reference, I believe Brian Clark has given up two HRs his entire professional career. Dude just gets guys out. You're right. 2 in 194 innings.

Orioles making progress on signing Mark Trumbo. I would assume Rangers would sign Napoli then.

Paul Konerko 2020 Hall Of Fame
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 04:07 PM) Most likely if he can keep it up and play on some winning clubs. That's all likely to happen. Yeah. If he does great in Boston, he should be looking at an extension with them.

White Sox News FA / Rumors / News
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 03:51 PM) I hope he does, then we move to extend him for 5 years because a late 20s hitter with 30+ HR/season power at a corner OF spot would be an absolutely ideal piece to have hitting 5th with guys like Moncada, Anderson, Collins, and Meadows in the top 4 in the lineup. Put the dynamic guys on base and then there's a guy to drive them in right at his peak production years. That's also a good point. But if he doesn't sign an extension by next off-season after having a great year, I'd probably sell high.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) I hope he does, then I hope Hahn turns around and moves him ala Kris Davis as his personal window doesn't match up with the future core even with his age. Agreed. He has what, 3 years control left? Unless he wants an extension, I'd probably just sell high on him.

Paul Konerko 2020 Hall Of Fame
QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 03:24 PM) Let me explain. Pitchers get much less wins now because of bullpens coming into play earlier. Years from now, pitchers going into the Hall won't have nearly as man wins on average as they do today (and I haven't looked it up but I bet that the same is true between now and and 2007 for example). Therefore, 214 wins will be a more acceptable number to vote into the Hall than it is today. Ok yeah thats what I thought you may have meant. Thanks for clarifying.

Paul Konerko 2020 Hall Of Fame
QUOTE (The Gooch @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) I think a 20-win season would have helped his chances a bit. He would also own the record for most starts going 6 or more innings if it wasn't for the Cowboy Joe West. I think what he has going for him outside of numbers is that he was not only the definition of a durable pitcher, but has also thrown a no-no and a perfect game (not to mention the other times he has faced the minimum) while topping out at 90-91. MB is my favorite of all time and I am hoping he gets in like Raines did, toward the end of his eligibility. His 214 wins will look like a lot more by then too.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 11:39 AM) Where Paul Konerko get in the HOF in 2020? I don't think he belongs, but there are worse guys than him in the HOF so I wouldn't be upset or anything if he did get in.

It's been a few days since we have had a "(insert team here) still talking to the White Sox about Quintana" tweet. Let's predict who will tweet next.

I had a nice loophole at work over the summer. The company I work for had our servers located in Oklahoma so when I logged into mlbtv to watch Sox or Cubs afternoon games, it wasn't blacked out. It was amazing.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) Gonzalez quietly threw 135 pretty solid innings in 2016 and saved his career Another similar performance in 2017 and he could have value at the deadline for a team in need of starting pitching depth The Marlins were linked to him at the trade deadline last year, correct?

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 09:26 AM) We also didn't complete a trade for MiGo. The point is this is not any sort of benchmark for Q or top of the line pitcher. There is no way to say "oh well they gave up 3 top 15 prospects from a terrible system for a pitcher with a sudden improvement, and Q is worth...100x that. What is 100x 3 top 15 prospects from a terrible system?" "...Three. Hundred. Prospects." I'm not arguing that the Marlins could have added more to that package and received Q though.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 09:13 AM) Very true http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2687747...culation/page/5 This is from bleacher report today and suggests a Pirates offer of: Meadows + Glasnow + Diaz might work for both sides It suggests the White Sox will ask for Meadows + Glasnow + Keller, but the Pirates would be unwilling to part with that much. They could offer the lower tier Diaz instead to round out the package and fill in a platoon catcher option for the Sox. I'd love a Meadows + Glasnow + Newman deal Maybe it'll be like when they dealt with the Red Sox. White Sox wanted Moncada, Kopech and Devers but instead of Devers, Hahn agreed on Basabe and Diaz instead. Maybe Sox want (just spit balling here) Meadows, Glasnow/Keller (depending on who they believe is better) and Bell and they'll have to agree on 2 lesser pieces instead of the third piece.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 09:11 AM) Plus the Rays already dumped a pitcher. They don't appear to be going into full rebuild mode. It's Q or bust for these guys. At the deadline if he isn't traded yet, chances are he is the best option. Next winter, Arrieta is a free agent, maybe Tanaka and a 33 year old Cueto. Given Q's contract, do you want to give up prospects or an extra $100 million? He still is looking good. Getting Q for 4 years offsets a good portion of the 6 years of control for a top prospect. The White Sox should be asking for the moon because eventually some team will pay it. The Rays actually really don't look too bad IMO. Probably not good enough to win division or a wild card spot but can win some games. They should be better than us which is good for when we play them head-to-head and wanting a high draft spot.

#IwantBeer2018
QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 08:26 AM) So pumped for super-cheap tickets on StubHub this year! Well the outfield corners are $7 Mon-Sat and $5 on Sundays. They also open the 100 level if attendance is under 25,000 so I basically took advantage of that whenever I had to pay for games. Nothing beats paying $7 and sitting behind the dugout.

QUOTE (SoxBrah @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 07:29 AM) #TankForBeer I fear that Cincinnati will suck more than we do. They're apparently close to dealing away Dan Straily who was solid for them last year. Had him on my fantasy team a few times.

Potential MLB free agent adds
QUOTE (SoxSteve @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 11:48 PM) God i hope so. Nothing would make me happier than getting the ist pick in the draft 2 years in row and being ready to compete in 2019. In fact if doesnt happen i will be pissed. Lose and lose big the next. 2 years. Puts a smile on my face. This doesn't even make sense. Potential #1 picks the next 2 years probably won't be ready to help us in 2019.
