2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 07:00 PM) This... unless you're a Mariners fan. True. Mariners are trying to save the offseason.

Take out the 2 Sox moves, and this is the lamest off season I think I've ever experienced.

Quintana Polls
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) Indians, Rangers, Dodgers, Blue Jays...if someone comes along who is willing to gut their farm entirely they could probably get Quintana. I thought about the Dodgers as well if we end up keeping Q. The Dodgers could possibly need another SP whether it be because of an injury or just because it never hurts to add a guy like Q to improve your playoff/world series chances. Edit: honestly, as of now, it seems like their team is the same one as the one that got knocked out in the NLCS.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (Elgin Slim @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 03:07 PM) Did anyone read my entire post? You know, the one where I said that if they believe he is going to be an ace then Hahn should wait for him to prove it before trading him with 2-3 years of control left? And if they think his control problems say otherwise then they should move him now while that "possibility" is still there, and he does not have a track record of solid but unspectacular performance? I read it and defended you haha I think the front office believes he will develop and he will either lead the rotation his last year or two (IF the rebuild is working) or he will get trades with a couple years left.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 02:54 PM) If you believe he's going to be an ace, then you wait until he's an ace to trade him, not trade him now for other prospects with similar amount of control/risk. There's really no good reason to trade him unless you're very bearish on him. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 02:57 PM) Rodon would not return nearly the same level of prospects as Quintana would. Sox will keep Rodon and look to build around him. He is still under team control for five more seasons. He wasn't suggesting to trade him now, guys.

Potential MLB free agent adds
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) I think they'll do that sort of signing but my guess is jason Hammel, who I believe we've heard wants to stay in Chicago Area anyway. He actually said that? After being cut by the Cubs, that would basically mean he wants to play for the Sox lol

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) They could really use a platoon LF couldn't they...maybe Melkster. Platoon with Upton would make sense. Would Bautista stay in RF or could he potentially be getting time at 1B and DH when Morales is out of the lineup? I know they also signed Steve Pearce who makes sense as a platoon option somewhere as well.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 01:55 PM) Especially in division I meant to include that in that last second but re-reading it now, the sentence is structured horribly lol

Predict Thy Numbers: Tyler Saladino
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) I hope saladino gets all the playing time at 2B before Moncada. Lawrie does nothing for me, especially now that we are rebuilding. Agreed.

A's won't sell him discounted after an injury plagued year. His value is at its lowest. And to try to get a team from your own division to trade you a starter, it should take more. There are other alternatives to Q like Archer and Gray, but those 2 are coming off down years where it wouldn't be wise to trade them now. They will hold onto them and let them rebuild value.

Potential MLB free agent adds
Bored in my cubicle at work. White Sox news is scarce right now. Read a few articles over the past week mentioning who would be fits for certain free agents and one put us as a destination for Chris Carter (open DH spot/still gotta fill out a roster) and one put us as a destination for Michael Saunders (who is about to sign with Philly). Which available free agents out there do you think we will sign to fill out the rest of our roster before/during Opening Day? I'm going to go with Adam Lind for DH/1B at bats (only against righties).

2017 Catch All thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 01:45 PM) I have two speeds: 0 and 100. And my 100 can get bad, real bad. So nowadays I am actually sober except for maybe one night a month give or take. Personally I think to each their own but you (I) have to know what kind of drinker you are. Personally I was one that would be out till 4am if I started. This is me too man. I don't drink very often but when I do, I drink way more than I should. It's also hard being 25 and trying to cut back significantly when you have friends that want to go out all the time. I don't have the money to be a "bar every Friday and Saturday" kind of drinker that my older cousins and most of my friends have become. Having a gf to spend time with on the weekends definitely helps me not drink because she's never been a drinker. I also think about the potential hangover the next morning and that makes me not want to go out.

Quintana Polls
QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 09:56 AM) So the team people want Q to go to the most is also one of the two teams nobody thinks will be his eventual destination. I voted that he won't be traded and I voted that I want him to go to the Rockies.

Teams have upped their offers in Q derby in the last week
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 09:33 AM) My source tells me teams are interested in Q and that he will be dealt before spring training. My source also confirms this. He also said Sox may hold onto him if they don't get an offer they like.

QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 08:13 AM) Collins will get the entire season in the minors to show he can handle the position. His bat will be mlb ready fairly quickly, but they should take their time developing his glove through the minor leagues. I expect him to rake in the minors this year, and if the defense progresses he should rocket up top 100 prospect lists Hell, probably 2 seasons to prove himself defensively. The team should be in no rush to get him here.

2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 08:36 AM) I guess. But Miller, Chapman and Betances are closer to elite. There's really no guarantee that Robertson, Holland or Jones will increase their value...and I have a feeling the White Sox will be outbid on Holland by a contender if he's at least 85-90% healthy. That said, there is no guarantee with Derek Holland as well, but can they get this Holland for roughly the same price? Sox just have to outbid those teams. With not much financial commit they can: 1) offer him the most money and 2) if he's healthy and good, he can be dealt to a team that needs him. A contender.

2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 11:18 PM) The problem with that is it's hard to market Robertson/Jones/Holland simultaneously as closers. Seems that one needs to be moved (Robertson or Jones) to clear the way...since presumably Burdi will be the man beginning in 2018, unless Nate Jones is somehow still around and they want Burdi to break into the majors as a set-up guy first. Not sure about the wisdom of doing that, since he's closed his entire collegiate career. Addison Reed basically took over the closer's spot as a rookie, as well. Santos had to earn his way there, but his background was different, as he started out as a first round draft pick SS with the DBacks. Not a problem at all. In fact, it seems like that would increase the market for Robertson. Holland being on board could be the closer for half the season and then flipped. Jones, being signed for 5 years, would close the rest of the 2017 season post-Holland trade and if not traded in the off-season, would be the closer entering 2018.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 07:51 AM) Love all the people trying to push Collins out of C when they've never even seen the kid play. All reports have him making good progress and it hasn't even been a full year yet. Collins is the C of the future until he proves he can't do it at the MLB level. If his catching was as bad as people around here make it out to be he would have been moved already. Anyway...I still find it hard to believe the Astros don't finally get the deal done. Been saying all along that it makes way too much sense for them. I'd rather see us get a haul from the Yankees though. Frazier, Mateo/Rutherford, Kaprielian/Sheffield is my preferred package. Sounded like Cashman is balking at that but who knows, could all just be posturing. No one is trying to push him off. Doesn't hurt to have more options.

The vanishing role of the mediocre veteran
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 01:53 PM) Illustrates fairly well why it will be hard to move any of them. If they don't project out to a decent WAR, the power just doesn't matter. Hitting home runs isn't enough anymore. (Looks over at Chris Carter)

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 14, 2017 -> 01:22 PM) Why buy him at peak price a year before you really need him? They could get him next year when Arietta is gone and give up less. Or they could sign one of the millions of high-end free agents. Yeah they can wait until next off-season to deal for him plus sign a free agent starter

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) So Meadows projects to be a better center fielder than Rob Mackowiak? Too bad that guy couldn't play defense. I just looked at his offensive numbers and they look solid.

White Sox will keep trying Collins as a C
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) Just by way of comparison, Johnny Bench (maybe the best?) totaled 70 WAR in his 12 prime seasons. So an average of 5.83 WAR per season. Nice.

Sox holding talks "daily" on Q
QUOTE (FT35 @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 11:46 AM) Trying to come up with a decent MLB comp for Austin Meadows if he develops the way he should...curious to see what you all think. Solve: Austin Meadows >/= Adam Eaton? Austin Meadows >/= Grady Sizemore? Any other ideas? Grady Sizemore was a hell of a player. Too bad injuries really did him in.
