  1. The Red Sox are only paying him the remainder of his $31 million deal. Anyone know how much that is?
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:55 PM) Wait, I thought he only got $31.5 million and the other $31.5 million was luxury tax? None of it was luxury tax. It was 100% tax penalty on going over foreign amateur spending.
  3. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) This is from the Red Sox forum: Most feel that they underpaid for this deal (does not happen with normal Red Sox meatheads) They are also skeptical if Moncada will ever figure out how to hit the breaking pitches, strikeout numbers is a concern. Yeah man, I'm pretty nervous about this deal. Nervous, excited, disappointed, sad lol
  4. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:35 PM) He should be kept as part of the rebuild imo. He's cheap and offers some upside. Trade him and bring him back in 2018 when he is a free agent.
  5. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:34 PM) Technically Boston did give up a guy from their lineup. With Shaw traded Moncada was in line for 3B. But now it's Panda with Devers about 2 years away. I never saw that Moncada was going to start in the MLB next year or ever felt that vibe. I would have put money on him going to AAA. Especially since Panda is there at 3B.
  6. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:33 PM) This would be a Sox move. Rehab & potentially flip/keep. Miguel Gonzalez, Humber, etc I keep forgetting he exists lol maybe we can flip him for an interesting prospect or two.
  7. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:31 PM) Pretty sure the bulk of that is sunk costs for Boston at this point, certainly the signing bonus and penalty. It's sort of funny, to date, Boston has probably paid more for Moncada than we have for Sale. Yeah the money is done. They paid Moncada his signing bonus and MLB the penalty tax.
  8. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) I thought Houston would seal the deal a week ago but boy did I call that Nats leak yesterday Maybe Astros will try to pony up for Quintana? With Sale off the market now, Quintana becomes more appealing.
  9. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) I thought Houston would seal the deal a week ago but boy did I call that Nats leak yesterday Ha I literally posted in a thread that the Red Sox are likely lurking to beat a final offer for Sale in the last minutes of negotiations.
  10. QUOTE (TitoMB @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:23 PM) So, does Hahn get credit for this trade, or will KW somehow steal the show? haha Both get credit.
  11. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:22 PM) Robert Murray reported a little while ago they are trying to trade David Robertson and have checked in on the free agent reliever market. Definitely should be looking at adding relievers we could potentially flip in July or next off-season (no Jansen or Chapman though).
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:19 PM) Before anyone suggests it, no, he should not get his number retired...ever. In fact 49 and 23 should be on new players backs in February. Good luck to Sale, but that era of Sox baseball is completely forgettable. I do agree that it shouldn't be retired and this era is totally unforgettable. However, it's not because of Chris Sale.
  13. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:15 PM) What does he mean by that? He's left-handed and struggles against Sale?
  14. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:12 PM) Where did you see this? I'd take Verdugo and Calhoun for Todd. Me too. Or Bellinger and Calhoun.
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:06 PM) Wouldn't mind moving Frazier for Devers now. Well of course you wouldn't lol but it doesn't quite work that way.
  16. I love Chris Sale so it's rough. This had to happen. I love the first 3 parts of the trade but am slightly disappointed we didn't get at least another position player (Travis, Devers, anyone lol) out of this deal.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 01:03 PM) Thanks man. I didn't know him well but it's still extremely sad. He had his whole life in front of him and now it's gone in an instant. On a side note, would someone like to predict the White Sox top 10 prospect list now? Moncada has to be #1, right? When you are the #1 prospect in baseball, I would have to think you're #1 on a team's prospect list haha
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) Craig Calcaterra ‏@craigcalcaterra 36m36 minutes ago BBWAA votes to make all Hall of Fame ballots public beginning next year http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2016/12/06/bbwaa-votes-to-make-all-hall-of-fame-ballots-public-beginning-next-year/ …://http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2016/12/06...ng-next-year/ …://http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2016/12/06...ng-next-year/ … via @HardballTalk Why does this just seem like a bad idea?
  19. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:57 AM) I was thinking either that, or his source told him to remove the info? I mean, why would he be getting good info about the Thornburg trade and then bad info about a Sale push. I think the source maybe had to backtrack a little bit because this wasn't supposed to be leaked. I was thinking its because the two teams are still discussing. The Thornburg post said something along the lines of it being a sure thing.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) or he deleted it because it was leaked info that wasn't supposed to be posted on a forum. Yet it was ok to post about the other move?
  21. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 09:32 AM) Completely agree. That's why to me, Trea Turner needs to be in this deal. Guys like Chris Sale are not traded like this, especially at 27 with 4+ years of control left. But with our incompetent organization, we have to. This is a franchise changing/saving/etc. move. They absolutely cannot afford to mess this up. (Similar to the Bears draft this coming offseason) Turner for Sale isn't going to happen. The Nats offense is already meh and they will likely lose Harper in 2 years. We have to aim for players like Turner on other teams who may be expendable (Benintendi with Boston's position player depth at the MLB level and minors, Bregman if Astros sign another bat).
  22. QUOTE (Soxnfins @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) I doubt it. Can never have enough quality bullpen arms, just like starters. Yep thats why my post listed Robertson as still an option. They are a team that got pummeled by the Indians bullpen so they know first hand that bullpens are key.
  23. QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 08:34 AM) Wow. Brew crew got Dubon, Shaw, and Pennington for that reliever Still have the pieces to land Sale + Robertson/Melky
