QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2016 -> 07:17 PM) Simply making a pitcher's age as the PRIMARY argument doesn't make a whole lotta sense...because you have lots of guys like Esteban Loaiza, Matt Thornton or Jose Contreras that had their best years with the White Sox (well) past 31. Phil Humber, off the top of my head, was another guy who became serviceable well after his expiration date as a prospect. That said, I have a hard time believing Mr. Guerra would be putting up the same exact statistics as a starter with the White Sox in the AL Central. If we don't make it to the playoffs, letting him go will be about reason #59 for us not getting there. It was a joke. Refer to the post right above yours.

Why sit both Lawrie and Garcia at the same time? -
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 19, 2016 -> 06:04 PM) I'd take a 31 year old Junior Guerra at this very moment over a 26 year old Erik Johnson or a 25 year old Anthony Ranuado. Age only means so much. I was making a joke...look at the poster I was responding to.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ May 19, 2016 -> 05:03 PM) Sox need a starter. The rest of this is silly contrivances that will set the org back years for temporary comfort of some above average veteran in the lineup. I see Junior Guerra struck out 11 today. It certainly would be nice if the Williams/Hahn/Ventura/Cooper could properly evaluate their own prospects. Cooper wanted nothing to do with Guerra, while saddling the Sox with Noesi for a year. He's 31. You should want nothing to do with him.

Look at how things were going when Latos was good and kept them in games/was on. That's what we're capable of being with another solid arm.
-
Sucks that Latos has turned into a pumpkin. This team def needs to add another mid-rotation type of arm.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 18, 2016 -> 05:44 PM) He might not be bad to have around but I doubt he would help much this season. He hasn't played in games in a year or more, and MLB is something he hasn't seen. Yeah I tend to agree with this. Maybe he can help plug a spot for next season?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2016 -> 04:50 PM) This could be an ideal situation. Not many guys are going to be available for just cash, though with Avi starting to hit, the need for another OF is greatly reduced unless it is someone you can replace Jackson with in CF, and by all indications Hernandez is not that guy. I think you would start taking Jackson's at bats away (not majority but some) as well as Avi's.

I hate bunting early in the game to get a quick guy over from second to third. A guy who can score on a hit to the outfield but you decide to give up one chance for him just to move 90 feet.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2016 -> 02:43 PM) Bob NightengaleVerified account @BNightengale The #Padres may have nice trade chip this summer in OF Matt Kemp, who has 10 homers and 29 RBI, and is being made available. I wonder what they could realistically get in return if a team wanted to take on the full salary to pay less in talent-wise.

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ May 17, 2016 -> 07:44 PM) Hawk's exciting. Benetti is totally forgettable. Like most announcers, actually. Like I said, he gets really emotional not that it's bad but it's the reason people think he's good. Overall, no he's probably not good. But when something exciting is going on for the team he's really fun. -

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 17, 2016 -> 07:39 PM) I'm really not a fan of Benetti. He just isn't a good announcer. To be fair, neither is Hawk. He just gets a ton of love for being a huge fan and emotional during games aka: one of us. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 17, 2016 -> 05:29 PM) I don't think he's actually referring to anyone. He's just saying that he's ready to make a deal at anytime. Most likely. But I was just naming someone in my post who I think they'd be more likely to target. Someone without a long commitment and not taking one of Fulmer or Anderson. The Soxtalk favorite offer of: Johnson/Beck, Sanchez, (insert other low tier prospect here) probably doesn't land you anything to great.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 17, 2016 -> 05:38 PM) The Rockies should know that they have no chance at contending this year, despite their decent start, so it would probably be wise of them to deal Gonzalez while he still has value. I see him going more towards the deadline. Not May.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 17, 2016 -> 04:55 PM) What if he was referring to CarGo? That would be AWESOME. Of the 1.5 GB Rockies? Probably not. I'm thinking Reds for Bruce.

Astros promoted Collin Moran today. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 16, 2016 -> 09:30 PM) 7 GB with over 125 games to play is not teetering on the brink. Yeah that's really not bad at all. It's a long season and anything can happen.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 16, 2016 -> 08:36 PM) Because Reddick is more of an "impact" bat that could help a contending team get over the hump as a rental. Burns is good, no doubt, but his numbers aren't eye popping and he isn't flashy like Reddick. He's probably attainable for sure but I doubt they would take a token Soxtalk offer of: Beck/Johnson, Sanchez, other random guy for him.
-
Yeah you really never really see infielders throw from over the top. Especially on DPs at second.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 16, 2016 -> 07:25 PM) I really like where you're going with this. He's young, left handed, solid defensively, and has ridiculous speed. He'd be a great #2 hitter behind Eaton for sure. Why is he more realistic than Reddick? He's younger and controlled until 2020.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ May 16, 2016 -> 06:07 PM) There is absolutely no reason to have any pitcher pitch on three days rest in May. Fixed.
-
And his size.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 15, 2016 -> 02:29 PM) Right now, Avila is playing more (not including his DL stint), as he tends to start vs RHPs and Navarro tends to start vs LHPs. Defensively, I don't think there is a worthwhile difference between starting one over the other. Navarro has a .232 BABIP that will go up, and Avila has a .333 BABIP that will go down (especially considering his slow bat speed and seemingly often weak contact). Also, you at least know that Navarro will run into a homer every now and then. Don't mind Avila catching to Sale and maybe Quintana but like Navarro in there for the other 3 when we need more offense.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 14, 2016 -> 06:50 PM) Even if Davidson went on the tear of the century, still not 100% convinced they would give him Avi's at-bats in the heat of a pennant race and really trust he could hold down the DH job at the big league level. But maybe it will restore a glimmer of trade value...one of those "down and out" NL franchises might be willing to provide him an opportunity like we sort of gave Mike Olt last year. Except Olt was a claim. Looking to trade Davidson for a major league piece may not be realistic (unless maybe it's for a reliever or something).
