Oh totally. The younger guys I work with were expecting it and looking forward to it. This is part of the problem, too. Social media has created a generation that cares more about sensationalism and memes than basic human decency.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but it isn’t just hand/colome or Hendricks. It’s hand/colome or Hendricks/other roster spot. They can make an upside signing for cheap, fill internally, etc. So it isn’t we can have these two guys or this one guy. It’s we can have these two guys or this guy plus an open roster spot. this applies more with platoon scenarios than bullpen, just something I wanted to mention. As I said, I don’t disagree. I’d be happy with either.

Haven’t read any previous comments, so forgive me if this is redundant. I’m not involved in scouting anymore, but was for a period of time. I live in the heart of Toronto. I keep in touch with a bunch of scouts and it gives me a sense of one side of the industry. No team scouts Canada as thoroughly as the padres, and they continue to get trade chips out of it.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind him being a three inning opener guy every now and then, just to give the staff some extra rest. I’m a little concerned about guys going from 2020 to a full 30+ starts + hopefully postseason. Ideally it’ll give him some feel for starting a game at the big league level, too. When not doing that use him in a hader/miller role.

I’m not an insider. Just to be clear. but a few years ago I had insides into the industry via the blue Jays. Chicago was known for coming in hard with offers of their valuation and not negotiating, moving on if no agreement. This was more on the amateur side, but wouldn’t shock me if if it was the pro side too. Likely means nada just saying.
