Sox interested in Jose Bautista per Phil Rogers
This is actually where I expected Bautista to sign for something like 1/5M. Kind of a can’t lose situation. If he hits, flip him at the deadline. If he doesn’t, no big deal.

White Sox have shown interest in Machado
Olney listed us as an interested team Edit: See this was mentioned already. Must have glazed over it. My bad.

Ohtani signs with the Angels
QUOTE (Scoots @ Dec 4, 2017 -> 05:40 AM) Don't get me wrong, this rebuild is the most exciting thing to happen to this franchise since 2005, but the Sox definitely have a lot of big obstacles to jump over if they are going to a world series sometime in the beginning of next decade. Those Astros are only going to get better, the Red Sox are young...but I think the Yankees are going to be the team to beat for years to come with that team they are building over there. They are going to be very hard to beat in the future when their kids develop. Cashman has done a great job of leveraging talent and fiscal power. I can’t think of a recent example better than Chapman for any team. Acquired for relative peanuts, traded for a mint, re-acquired months later for only money and no draft picks surrendered. Quite the trick. I believe Hahn has done an excellent job, and is as competent as any GM in the game. We were lucky to have not had him poached before his promotion. I think we have the clearest path to success in a couple years within our division, but the Yankees will be a force as well. The key is to make the playoffs and hope that you come in hot.

2018 MLB Draft
It isn’t paying $10M for the 33rd pick. They’re paying James Shields that money either way. The question is would you rather have Shields or the 33rd pick and the answer seems obvious.

Contract Tender Deadline is Friday
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2017 -> 10:58 PM) We should go after Rondon. Live arm, big(ish) name. Definitely a turnaround candidate that could fetch something Agreed. I’m sure the opportunity to close again would be appealing, as would (presumably) not having to change cities. Also closed under Renteria in 2014. I can see this happening.

Looks For A Match In A Jose Abreu Trade
QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 24, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) Not even close. Murphy failed miserably last season. He's not as good as Kevin Smith. Rockies would include Rodgers, Tapia, and Pint for Abreu. They wouldn’t do that. I think The Sox likely value Abreu more than most other teams, which is why I doubt a trade will happen.

This is from mlbtraderumors: Hard to argue with this. Edit: I screwed up the quote function.

Kevin Maitan and others
Part of me thinks this is damage control. “Sure, we lost him, but he was no good anyways. No big deal, no reason to lose faith or not buy season tickets.” That sort of deal. But then again, who knows. Never seen the guy.

I love seeing pitchers work their legs and core. Keep the arm loose, but get that lower half strong. Clemens and Juan Guzman come to mind.

The Twins just cleared up $3M in international spending today for the current signing period. Not sure how relevant that winds up being.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
Allowed to be nervous? Sure. Give up? No, dummy Ask myself questions and then answer them? Every day.

Lopez, Fulmer and Holmberg to Chicago
I expect the plan for Fulmer is to cut down his arsenal to focus on 2-3 pitches and move him to the bullpen. Let him focus on commanding those 2 or 3 and go all out for 15-25 pitches.

2017 Offseason White Sox News, Notes, and Tweets thread
QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 03:25 PM) I saw on Chris Sale's MLB.com player profile that his nickname is now considered to be, "stickman". Lame. Yeah that's pretty weak. Condor is an awesome nickname.

Catchers
Narvaez would be a solid backup. Left handed, puts the ball in play, seemingly always gives you a good at bat. Also, maybe I'm just imagining things, but it looks to me like he's trying to drive the ball more lately. I'm a fan.

I can't tell you why...I know he isn't very good....but I like Big Pelf. Seems like a good dude.

Shields' lower arm angle seems to help his cause. Nice to see he's actually trying to adapt. Also, ever since Timmy started standing more upright he's been crushing the ball.

QUOTE (Insp @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 08:38 PM) Engel is too undisciplined....swings on everything it seems like. He can't seem to recognize the slider. He can still be a good 4th or 5th outfielder, which is pretty solid for a 19th rounder (I believe...top of my head).

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Yeah he went on contact with 2 outs, I don't have a problem with what he did there. Not at all. He holds up and the ball gets through and he doesn't score, you'd hear the same complaints.

I'd hang on to him and see how far they can stretch out his defensive versatility in the spring.

Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
On the Red Sox front, DD is talking like a madman to Henry. He looks like a mess.

Sox send Frazier/DRob/Kahnle to NY ~ Rutherford/Clarkin/Clippard/Polo
The Blue Jays broadcast against the Red Sox cut to DD and John Henry have a pretty emphatic conversation about something.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 12:38 PM) As a 22 year old, Carlton Fisk hit .229 with a .763 OPS in AA. 2 years later he was ROY hitting .293 with a .909 OPS. Meanwhile, the other 99.99%.... I'm not even saying time to panic on Collins, but come on, man.
