  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 22, 2017 -> 08:06 AM) That would make 3 lefties in a row. That doesn't really matter in a tank year.
  2. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 01:16 PM) Why? He's having a nice spring and we are thin on lefties. Just another potential chip in June/July. His spring stats are better than I thought, but still, I don't think he'd have much deadline value even if he was decent and I'd rather give a younger guy his spot.
  3. I don't think Luebke deserves to make the team.
  4. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) If cleared before June 15th then a team that has already blown through it's spending cap will likely go the extra mile to sign Robert as well If he clears after June 15th then I could see the Sox being one of the favorites Personally, I can the the mlb intentionally dragging its feet with this until after June 15th I'd be ok with this if what you say is true.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 12:03 PM) Until he gets cleared to sign, it doesn't matter. The date when he gets cleared is absolutely vital to this process. Before June 15, he can sign for pretty much an unlimited amount of dollars, especially with a team that went over its bonus pool for this period. After June 15, certain teams pretty much lose the right to sign him, while others come back on line. On top of that, the new cap rules go into effect, so Robert's contract prospects drop off by a large amount. At this point, there really isn't much to talk about, and won't be until he gets cleared. Good point. Either way, I hope the Sox do whatever it takes to land him. I already trust Hahn in this process but adding an elite, impact talent like Robert would only further cement that.
  6. This is such a steal for the Sox. They'll pay Anderson pennies on the dollar even if he's only league average.
  7. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) You have to love the deal from Anderson's perspective as well Imagine you are a 23 year old kid and you just signed a deal for a guaranteed $25 million pre tax. Welcome to the 1% Tim This is arguably even better from the player's point of view because the team is clearly invested in him moving forward and is willing to guaranty his future Rodon would be taking a pretty big risk by not taking a deal somewhat similar because the risk of injuries for pitchers is much higher than position players. Boras might be his agent, but if a player says "I want to ensure my future...do it" there's not much stopping him. Rodon taking a hard line approach could end up costing him millions if he gets injured prior to reaching free agency. Regardless, the Sox control his right through 2022, so it's not like he is goign anywhere anytime soon. Agreed. It's a great deal for both sides. Anderson is financially set for life now and the Sox potentially got a steal of a deal and locked up one of their core pieces at the same time. Anderson will be in his prime for the duration of this extension so I'd have to think this deal is a win for the Sox as long as Anderson is a positive WAR player. I love Rodon but I don't see him signing an extension here. Hope I'm wrong.
  8. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) There is also a marketing element to this. The Sox want to keep their fans excited during what should be a somewhat painful rebuilding process and locking up a promising young talent helps build some goodwill. Perhaps this move is a year early, but the downside risk is so low that it's worth maintaining some positive momentum with the fans. This another reason why I fully expect us to land Luis Robert if he's declared in this free agent period. Hahn will want some to show some early signs of progress before the second half of this rebuild takes shape in June & July. Do you really think the Sox are the frontrunners for Robert? I'd certainly hope so but they're hard to read because the front office keeps things quiet for the most part.
  9. I honestly don't know how anyone couldn't like this deal from the team's perspective.
  10. It's essentially like $4 million a year and the Sox will have him for his entire prime. I think it's a great deal even if Anderson only turns out to be a 1-2 WAR player yearly (obviously I hope he becomes much more than that).
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:08 AM) I'm kinda confused until we know how much additional control we have. Bobby said the Sox got 2 additional years out of him, so I'm assuming there's 2 option years at the back end of the deal. Supposedly the Sox control him through 2025 now.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 08:03 AM) 6 years, 25 million. No word on how many options and how much money Wow, that seems like an absolute steal. Kudos to Hahn for getting it done. Thanks man.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 21, 2017 -> 07:50 AM) 6 years plus options, it's official Do you have more details please? Are they team options? How much money is the contract worth?
  14. This would be a great move. Buy out his pre-arbitration years, and add a couple years onto the back end of the deal. It's good for both sides and Anderson is a core piece that would've probably been extended at some point anyway. Hahn is a wizard at these sort of things.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) I could be mistaken, I haven't paid a ton of attention to Soxtalk the past couple months as I have been fully immersed in CBB, but I thought you were one of the big tank guys. I'd definitely like to see them tank this year. With that being said, I always want them to win the games I go to in person.
  16. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) Are you going to be rooting for the Tigers? Nope. Why would I? I always want the Sox to win the games I go to.
  17. Can't wait to be there Opening Day. Q vs. Verlander baby. Should be a lot of fun.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:50 AM) Yes. Neither have anything left to prove at AAA. The Sox are likely to be terrible, so may as well give them as much PT as possible to see if we have anything before moving on. Not like service time is a concern with those 2. Put up or shut up time. True. Unless the light bulb suddenly turns on for one of them, they're really nothing more than filler to keep the seat warm for Moncada. But that's fine in a tank year I guess.
  19. What's the point of carrying both Leury and Yolmer? Aren't they redundant? Is it just because both are out of options?
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) How do you get 5 bench guys? Davidson as DH and Narvaez as C. Bench: Leury, Sanchez, Soto and Asche. I forgot about DH, my bad.
  21. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) Yep. At this point looks like we're pretty much down to the last position player between Asche and Liriano. Have to imagine Davidson, Leury and Sanchez will all break camp with the team as they're out of options. You think they'll carry 5 guys on the bench (including the backup catcher)? Seems unlikely to me.
  22. Not sure Gonzalez in Fenway would be a smart idea for Boston but he wouldn't cost a ton either. Maybe Swihart and a lottery ticket for him?
  23. I'm just glad he isn't hurt.
  24. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 08:00 AM) He's a professional broadcaster that is well versed in multiple sports and went to school for his craft. He is inherently more qualified than the current version of Hawk. Now if Hawk were the analyst, that'd be different. I grew up with Hawk like everyone else did. He takes over broadcasts though and minimizes Steve Stone. The Hawk schtick has run its course as far as the broadcast is concerned. The home games sound like a modern baseball broadcast. The road games are two guys doing separate games because of their dislike for working with the other on most nights. What does being well versed in other sports have to do with a being a baseball announcer though? And I don't know about you but I feel like Steve is much more arrogant when he's with Benetti than Hawk.
