  1. I always laugh when I think of before his last contract here when Jerry made public statements saying "I'm bringing him back no matter what" and Jose was saying similar things like, "I'm not going anywhere" and someone asked Rick Hahn about it and he goes "Well, this one is not going to be taught in any law school negotiation classes anytime soon."
  2. Then I'd definitely hold on to the two big guys. Unless you think you can trade Crochet and Robert for pitching and then deal minor league pitching for hitting. But then you better self-scout real well... and if no one is giving you bats for Robert or Crochet, why would they give you bats for Ky Bush and Peyton Pallette?
  3. This is so insane. Can't be true.
  4. That's fine. The other guy acts like Fletcher and DeLoach were costly acquisitions that were meant to be franchise cornerstones. Its bizarre. There's a million things to criticize the organization about in the last decade. Zach DeLoach and Dom Fletcher are far far down that list.
  5. They traded an ok minor league starter (who has an ERA in the high 4s in AAA) that had fallen behind their other pitching prospects for an outfielder who hit 300 in a small sample size last year. He has been bad in an even smaller sample size this year. This was during an offseason where he had to cut payroll and needed OF depth and after it was clear they weren't getting a MLB ready OFer from Baltimore for Cease. Do you really not understand any of that or are you just so weirdly obsessed with Chris Getz?
  6. This is such a stupid and unserious criticism. DeLoach was one of three pieces in a deal for an injured bullpen arm. Who said he was going to take over RF? You act like he was the main target this offseason and they signed him to a big extension. He's just some dude they got in a trade. Would you have rather that they just refused to take a third player?
  7. I would have thought Schriffen would be more excited for that Maldonado rbi hit to break the hitless streak
  8. Stiever was drafted in 2018. Same with Pilkington. At this point in the last rebuild, we didn't have them. Alec Hansen, if I remember correctly, kinda fizzled once he made it to AA. Fulmer was always kind of shitty even in the short time he spent in the minors before coming up. I agree with everyone who points out most of the guys we have now will not reach their best case scenario and there will be a lot of busts.. and you're all right that they did have a lot of pitching last rebuild. But this group is deeper (maybe less top end talent)... And, without looking at the stats, it seems like they are all performing better in the minors than the previous rebuild.
  9. Just looking at Phillies prospect list... I know nothing about him but I'd like a Gabriel Rincones type on this team for 1b/DH. Seems like he is a AA left handed power bat (can't field or run). Would he be the type of prospect we can get for Pham or is that too much (or too little)?
  10. PNoles & co. would also be the first to crap on a prospect package that reflected his "Robert is similar to Moncada" tweet.
  11. Yeah I heard he's like the extreme opposite. Let the players do anything.
  12. It felt like every pitcher on the roster between 00-02 tore their labrum.
  13. Why was Woodford even up? Why not use Cannon?
  14. Exactly. If we are aiming at next decade like some here are saying, that's about the same time it took for Hahn to tear everything down, rebuild a farm system drastically worse than what we have now, make 2 playoff appearances, and then turn shitty again.
  15. I agree. But saying it the "can is flying into next decade" is absurd. That's a minimum of four offseasons and five trade deadlines and 5 drafts. You could start an expansion team from scratch and and beat that.
  16. What is? If they trade them, we'll see what they get. I'd bet that if those guys get traded, its going to be centered on players closer to the majors.
  17. Its defending him to point out he isn't getting fired after less than a season of being hired?
  18. "Learn how to read! You'll get Chayce McDermott and only Chayce McDermott and you'll like it!"
  19. SoxTalk- where trading an insignificant single A reliever for Corey Julks is sheer panic but firing the GM you hired 9 months ago for optics is reasonable.
  20. Because they have a batch of prospects (mostly on the pitching side) coming up in the next year. They just traded their 2nd biggest trade chip in Cease for 3 guys... 2 of them will be in that batch. It's possible Thorpe is up in the second half of this year. They aren't the Orioles but this isn't 2016 when Adam Engel was the #3 prospect in the organization. Why would the team acquire guys this last offseason and last trade deadline that line up for a "quick" 3 year rebuild and then switch gears and start a another 5-6 year process. You mention burning through service time... Let's say our luck turns around and Montgomery comes up next year and does look like he'll be Seager and Thorpe is Kyle Hendriks and Ramos is whatever Ramos' 90% outcome. I'd rather have Crochet or Robert on the team so there's some type of core to build around. If they do trade Crochet and Robert, I'd rather have guys who align more closely with Montgomery et al. rather than burning the new guys' service time until the 18 year olds are ready... and then we need to trade Montgomery and Thorpe and whoever because now they only have 2 years left of control in 2029. Here's another thing no one mentions- Everyone loves to talk about how we know JR doesn't spend on top end free agents. There's about a thousand pages of people complaining about Machado and Harper and Wheeler. I can recite it all in my sleep... "two teams haven't signed a $100m player" "We get stuck with Benitendi instead of Harper" "Only time he played with the big boys was Albert Belle" That's all true. You know what else is true? JR has owned the team for nearly 50 years. Up until Hahn and KW begged him to allow for a full rebuild, he never let the Sox tear it all down. The closest they ever got was the White Flag Trade when they traded a bunch of vets for Caruso, Foulke, Howry, Lorenzo Barcelo, and 2 guys I don't remember who all either busted or debuted within a year or two of the trade. People think stubborn-as-f*** Jerry Reinsdorf spent decades resisting full scale tear-it-all-down rebuilds and then reluctantly allowed himself to be talked into one, it fails, and then fires the guys who talked him into it and authorizes another one? I don't want it to happen and I don't think it will happen. I bet if they trade either guy, its going to be for players who are kind of close to MLB.
  21. I experience pain when Andrew Vaughn swings too.
