April 29, 20178 yr QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 10:05 PM) Cool. So what's the most likely diagnosis. What's the potential recovery time and what would you see being potential implications to his overall game? Have at it. Medically speaking, he borked his ankle good, he's gonna be out a lot, and is probably gonna cuss up a storm!

April 29, 20178 yr I guess my main question would be, would it be worse if the ankle was broken, or if he tore a ligament or something? Obv the way that thing was moving, something very bad happened, but is it possible he just severely sprained it? edit - I guess its also possible that all that stuff happened at the same time. Poor Adam. Edited April 29, 20178 yr by daggins

Poor Adam. Yea my concern is that it's both... but really, I know nothing.
April 29, 20178 yr Jesus you can literally see the ankle/foot flop after he goes to the ground. That's tough for Eaton.
April 29, 20178 yr You guys are missing the more important result of this.... my fantasy team continues to be plagued with injury. But for real, I've been rooting for Eaton and Sale. Hope he's ok.
April 29, 20178 yr So Eaton got Tilson'd? Wouldn't be surprised if Sale went down too those pitch counts are adding up.
April 29, 20178 yr QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 28, 2017 -> 11:47 PM) They always tell you not to lunge at the base like that but he has always done it I always imagine it would be a hyperextended knee or torn hammy to be the result of that. Not a broken ankle.
April 29, 20178 yr stinks for him. Doesn't look good. Agree with whoever said that play was his time bomb. He never ran through and always hit the bag hard. Worth noting that while he was having a great offensive year, he was -0.5 WAR defensively in center so far
April 29, 20178 yr The worst case is Jared Mitchell. The best case is he loses a step, but his game has never been predicated on stolen bases. That said, some hesitation in the outfield and worry in the back of his head about another injury are going to be hard for him to get over. It's just as much psychological as physical.

That said, some hesitation in the outfield and worry in the back of his head about another injury are going to be hard for him to get over. It's just as much psychological as physical. His game has never be based on stolen bases, but base-running & range are two essential components to his game. Losing a step could have a significant impact on his production.
April 29, 20178 yr The MRI results should be more definitive...hard to believe it's just a strain after watching it all play out.
April 29, 20178 yr Ken RosenthalVerified account @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: #Nationals’ Eaton has torn ACL, out for year. Edited April 29, 20178 yr by Jose Abreu

April 29, 20178 yr QUOTE (Sleepy Harold @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) Wow that's a tough break for him & the Nats. Isn't that a potentially career ending injury?
April 30, 20178 yr QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Isn't that a potentially career ending injury? I'm sure he'll be back next year. It's bad, but not that bad
April 30, 20178 yr Author QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 29, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Isn't that a potentially career ending injury? Not career ending as much as it could be career altering.
