I said it in a post in a different thread last week, but his defense has also stepped way back up. Anderson had 22 errors over 91 games in April through July. In the 35 games since he has a total of 4 errors.

 

Let me just pile on the praise for the young man -- he's been really good in the last two months and it's been all around, with the glove too. He's always going to be a guy that relies on his BA to drive his offensive value (and will run hot and cold) but he has to be a consistent, average defender at SS to be a starter even when his bat is scuffling. He has the potential to be much more than a 1-2 WAR player. But for now I'm happy to see him looking like a decent regular again.

I believe someone used the defensive comp of Jose Valentin. If not, I would make it myself. Both are extremely toolsy, possess great instincts, a lightning quick first step, but lack fundamental technique and maybe some focus at times. Both can make the spectacular play and then let a ball go through their legs on the next play. They both have great arms, and because of that don't square up, set and throw, leading to bad arm angles and path throw paths at times.

 

The tools are there for Anderson to be a + defensive SS, he just had to put the work in and fix some of the technique problems he has. Otherwise he will always a sporadic defensive SS.

It just seems to me defensively to be reps. So many throwing errors when he was set on a routine grounder, then double clutches. I just feel like that will become a natural throw. He seems so much more natural on a play where he is running full speed off balance and has to just let instincts get the ball out.

I'm very glad they stuck with him through this tragedy despite how poor the results were. He's an important part of this team's future and I fully expect a significant leap in development in 2018.

Ill bet players weekend offered some healing for him as well. Being able to wear his friends name on his jersey probably helped.

quite the remarkable turnaround for TA. Somehow he now sits at .3 fWAR for the season. He has a chance to finish around 1 fWAR and run neutral at SS defense wise. Pretty encouraging, although obviously he can't just crater the first half again next year. But he won't have the new contract pressure and I pray he doesn't have any more deaths in his circle.

The fact that he could realistically finish with an OPS over .700, given where it was a month ago and during the ASB, is incredible.

If he can provide a league average bat to go along with the elite defense we saw last year, he can be a 4 WAR player going forward. He's taken massive strides toward being that player again over the 2nd half of the year, and next year is his age 25 season. If he can manage to improve his bat (ideally by improving his plate discipline) to anything above league average, he could become an elite player.

Still needs to draw more walks, but he definitely has the talent to be a very good hitter. He was a nice find.

I'd be surprised if he can't maintain his body and skill level into his early 30s, so I'd say more like 7-9 productive seasons.

The trick's going to be plate discipline. If he is in his 20s and has quick enough wrists to catch up to any fastball, then he's in good shape. If he keeps trying to swing at everything including stuff out of the zone and relying on athleticism only to keep going, then the moment his arms or wrists or anything slow down, then he will face a cliff. Making the pitcher actually throw him strikes makes that adaptation easier as he won't have to cover a 20 square foot strike zone or whatever it is.

$20 million renovation last offseason. The H out there was kinda neat. It still has the vertical wall where a ball on the left side is a double and a ball on the right side is a HR - that cost us a HR in the 05 world series game 3, but at least now there's replay.
