Sox acquire Ryan Burr for int'l pool $$$

Featured Replies

23 years old, drafted in 5th round in 2015. Has dominated both levels of A ball. Could be a fast riser. Looks to be a solid depth piece to the farm.

Some notes on Mr Burr, sir.

As Burr walked into room 131 of ASU’s Carson Student-Athlete Center, the first thing I noticed was his size. Standing 6-feet-4-inches and weighing 230 pounds, Burr’s presence on the mound must be frightening to opposing hitters. With a total of five pitches in his arsenal (two-seam fastball, four-seam fastball, change-up, slider, curve), Burr has been clocked at throwing over 100-miles per hour on the radar gun.

18) Ryan Burr, RHP, Grade C+: Age 21, fifth round pick in 2015 out of Arizona State, posted 1.06 ERA with 49/11 K/BB in 34 innings between NWL and Low-A, mid-90s fastball with erratic breaking stuff, command comes and goes but overpowering at his best. Similar to Barrett, a fellow Arizona State product, at the same stage.

Arizona State JR RHP Ryan Burr and Oregon JR LHP Garrett Cleavinger stand together as the two best 2015 relief prospects likely to come out of the conference. Burr has gotten some recent love as a possible starter at the next level, but I don’t really see it. Been there, done that. He has the stuff (90-96 FB, above-average low-80s SL, ability to mix in raw yet intriguing mid-80s CU and upper-70s CB) to pull it off, but the delivery, control (though improved), and command all scream reliever to me.

Career milb line of:

114 IP, 1.97 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 42 BB, 144 K

A+ line this season of:

25 IP, 0.72 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, 6 BB, 29 K

Doesn't seem to appear on any of DBacks mid season lists, but looks like a nice relief prospect.

2.42 FIP, 2.82 xFIP, 10.44 K/9, 2.16 BB/9 in A+

I like it. Solid way to use the international pool money that we won't spend.

Might be a guy who gets a look in our 2018 bullpen. Can't complain about dealing international pool money that we are not going to use.

Tell him to stay away from Ian Hamilton.

A+ delivery here.

Surprising prospect list not to be able to crack, but welcome aboard Burr!

Yeah his numbers look solid.

I'm not going to pretend to know a ton about him but looks like he has a good arm and has good numbers so what the hell.

Well our very own FutureSox left Delmonico off the Sox top 30.

He was going to catch on to the list, but then he dropped it.

Fairly accurate

That's a really nice arsenal to work with, especially for a reliever. Another interesting arm to keep an eye on.
