Atlanta also will lose a third-round draft pick in 2018 for offering inducements to a drafted player. Jeff Passan @JeffPassan BREAKING: Star prospect Kevin Maitan is one of 12 Atlanta Braves minor leaguers expected to be declared a free agent after league investigation, sources tell Yahoo Sports. bmags
I am pleased with the MLB here. This is sufficient punishment and should be a deterrent in the future. I wonder if issue was braves literally paying out to some of these players prior to contract to ensure they never really hit the market. Soto had a nice 12% walk rate as a 17 year old in gulf league. No power yet. Could be interesting.

TheTruth05
White Sox are now definite #1 system in MLB lol. Really hope they can pull off a couple of these kids by selling them a chance to be part of an up and coming farm.
iamshack
The White Sox have the best farm system in baseball. This is inarguable.

We got nothing from Wilder AND then had to start from scratch years later.

Minorleaguebaseball.com it is #13 and some of their C+ and C rated guys.

Just funny given how much serious/extensive it seems this offense was and yet we ultimately paid a bigger price. Obviouslg happy with the punishment here regardless. This type of behavior can not be tolerated or it will continue to foster.

This type of behavior can not be tolerated or it will continue to foster. To be fair, one set of actions was criminal. The other was against baseball's rules. bmags
I mean wilder was basically racketeering, I actually think we got off light but reality was he was committing crimes against white sox so it's not the same as an org "cheating". Bob Sacamano
Question is, which team gets busted next? I doubt them and the Red Sox are the only ones cheating in one way or another when it comes to these signings/agreements.

It may be interesting to know what was so brazen as to make this so much more severe.

Sounds like they barely tried to hide it, and almost flaunted the rules.

While obviously the big prize is Maitan, the catcher Abrahan Gutierrez might be as big of a prize, if the hints about Maitans status dropping are true. bmags
Getting any would be nice. Our farm isn't necessarily young, so this provides a starting point to a new "wave" as Rick is trying to create.
