Damage control from a new management team who has nothing to lose by "bending the truth"?

Could be, but if he does turn into a star, they look pretty bad. He is so young, I don't know how anyone could expect him to put up much numbers-wise. Supposedly his body changed, as he got a lot heavier..

We have no money.

Eh, he's got $300k. I mean full court sales pitch

So if they lose him, he reverts to International free agent rules?

Do they? I know they can sign him for that, but how much do they have left after trading away slot money three different signings and at least two signings of their own?

Yes.

Pretty sure Maitan is going to take the highest bid (or near highest) which won’t be us. I’m pretty confident that we have at least $300k remaining if we want to throw a Hail Mary type offer though.

I tried to do the math. We’ve only signed 2 players, traded 3 slots. Assuming the Mariners trade was about the others, we still have 2 mill or so left

If his deal is the same as the Red Sox prospects, every team will be allowed to offer him their entire pool. With the Red Sox guys, the first $300K (the amount of their original reported bonus) didn't count toward the new team's bonus pool. In Maitan's case, that would be the first $4.25 million, so Texas, for example, could offer him almost $8 million if he's granted the same status as the Red Sox prospects.

This may have already been discussed, but would the Braves be able to potentially re-sign him?

This is really going to be interesting with teams looking to push their pool money to Otani. I wonder who and what amounts are out there for Matain? Most teams have already spent most of their money, either that or they are looking towards the Japanese and even Cuban phenoms that are showing up.

If their punishment goes like Boston's, they'll be out of the international market for at least a year once their prospects are released. That means no Maitan, no Otani, no anyone for at least the rest of this signing period. If the offense is severe enough, maybe even the next as well.

Mark Bowman‏Verified account @mlbbowman 6m6 minutes ago MLB will likely announce the findings of its Braves investigation within the next two days. Penalties could include fines, international market restrictions and the loss of international prospects (Maitan remains a strong possibility).

Maitan is the biggest name, but they also signed a catcher, Abraham Gutierrez, for ~$3.5 million. Is he someone who, if released, would be worth bringing in?

The Braves have something like half a dozen guys out of that class who have made it to the US. There is a ton of talent to poach there. Hopefully Paddy has some good feelers out.

Wow, mlb going way harder than I thought they would. Good for them.

Hearing that all the prospects the Braves lose will be tossed back into the international free agent pool, subject to existing restrictions (likely we are out of the running to sign any of them)

Maybe we are trading Guerrero and Polo for slot money.

Maybe, but who knows. Their 2016 class was huge:

It's hard to know what team has what amount left. Certainly the runner up to Otani may feel like they have a nice consolation, but it could play out with us getting a guy we didn't expect.

How much money do teams have left at this point? Depending on the number of players being tossed back into the pool, some guys may be forced to take $300k from the teams in the penalty box.

That's also true. It would be awesome if we could sign a few of them at $300k each (depending on if there is room).

Braves ruling expected today. Kevin Maitan will be freed ($4.2M signing, infielder). Others may be too.

So we are over slot already...can we not go even more over slot and blow our minds on these guys or are we in the penalty box already because of the timing of the Robert signing?

If it based on the current period (which I assume it is), we are in the penalty box.
