December 12, 20178 yr http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/6242/manny-machado Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Orioles want "two young, controllable starting pitchers" back in a trade for Manny Machado. The Orioles don't expect to re-sign Machado, so they appear willing to seriously consider offers from interested teams. No word on which team might have the advantage in trade talks, but the Cardinals have been mentioned as a possibility. One interesting side note from Rosenthal is that Machado wants to move to shortstop for his final year before free agency. Dec 12 - 12:35 PM interesting.
December 12, 20178 yr Lopez and Giolito is their ask, eh? It would be interesting to be able to say that we turned Eaton into Machado, and Dunning. Given his contract, I don't think they will be able to get a deal done for that ask. The Sox especially will need to keep every SP prospect they have to maximize their chances of having a winning rotation when the window is open.
December 12, 20178 yr I wonder if teams will try to get an agreement with the O's and MLB for a couple day window to talk extension and agree upon a deal based on said extension. It's happened before. I'm sure the O's would love that as that would drive up the price. Edited December 12, 20178 yr by soxfan2014

I was just thinking with Hardy gone, why is this not already the plan if he stays?
December 12, 20178 yr I don't know why anyone would give up anything of value honestly. He's not going to re-sign anywhere. He'd be a fool not to reach free agency.

December 12, 20178 yr QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) A team trying to win this year can absolutely trade something significant away, the White Sox...not so much. I just meant that I didn't know if anyone would meet the asking price. For example: St. Louis could trade Sandy Alcantara and Jack Flaherty for 1 year of Machado and then recoup a 1st round pick for him. Most contenders can't do that.
December 12, 20178 yr The Cubs could be a player here, they are allegedly already in talks on moving a SS to San Diego and if they move Schwarber, they could conceivably end up with the players that the O's are looking for plus some extra pieces to replenish their farm. Machado at SS and Baez to 2B would give them a really good shot at getting another ring before their window starts to close.

Machado at SS and Baez to 2B would give them a really good shot at getting another ring before their window starts to close. Would be lots of moving parts for not a significant increase in talent while adding huge to their payroll to extend Machado. They are way more likely to go after Harper next offseason
December 12, 20178 yr I mean, it's not happening for the Sox this offseason, nor do I want them to. The biggest upside to a team trading for him now is getting ONE year out of him and using that opportunity to impress him so much that he either signs an extension or would give some kind of preference in free agency to them... I'd guess there's a 98% chance he tests the market, so I say let's just reproach next year. The interesting comment as noted in the first post is that he wants to play SS. If that's the case I'd like to see some experimenting either spring training or late in the season when we are out of it to test Anderson in CF or 3B. Still a very small chance we get him, but in the case we do I'd like to see how Anderson plays the diamond elsewhere.

Anderson to 2nd makes sense and then you can move Moncada back to third where he seemed like a better defender.. This is all of the hypothetical that we actually signed Machado
December 12, 20178 yr Even if we were able to reach an extension agreement with him as a condition of a trade - I would still want nothing to do with such a swap. Give me Lopez and Gio all day over him.

Give me Lopez and Gio all day over him. Well it would likely take more if there was an extension agreement, ha. Not that I disagree with you. I also don't think the Sox would pull the trigger on what it would take.
December 12, 20178 yr Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN The Yankees are one of the teams that has expressed interest in Manny Machado. There would be major questions about whether the two division rivals would actually conclude a deal, but Orioles are listening, Yankees have a loaded farm system. White Sox also interested. December 12, 20178 yr QUOTE (Tony @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 06:20 PM) The Sox should be interested, if he wants to sign a seven year deal upon arrival to Chicago. Other than that...wait. 100% agree, but how can Hahn be sure? Anderson, Fulmer, Dunning, Sheets too much?

December 12, 20178 yr Maybe Hahn is trying to get a window to talk to Machado to try and get an idea of what he's looking for next offseason. No? Ok.

Edit: Added link Maybe this is why we haven't been doing anything. We are waiting to see what Machado is going to cost. If we can put together an offer the Orioles like and they let us talk extension before the trade maybe we don't get rid of Abreu and Garcia because 2019 really becomes the start of the window. If its obvious we can't then we move on and seek out trades to sell off some guys.
December 12, 20178 yr QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 05:26 PM) Keep in mind Yanks have Torres, Frazier, Andujar, Sheffield to spare You would have to think the Yankees would have to drastically overpay to acquire him. The orioles could conceivably give away the division for the next 5-7 years, that isn’t gonna sit well with fans
