If Cleveland is selling then that is more reason why we go all in on Harper and Machado. Abreu and Jimenez can easily solidify the DH spot in 2019.

That's what I meant (to your first thought). In the event that Cleveland sells, we do indeed land one of Machado/Harper, but it would still leave Abreu at 1B, Eloy in LF, and Cruz/Palka at DH

Signing Cruz wouldn't have any negative impact on the Sox pursuit of Harper/Machado, right?

They have to make it more attractive to Harper or Machado. But Cruz is 100 years old.

Still but up a 2.9 war and did pretty good offensively. Would be major upgrade over Davidson

Cruz would probably be the dh

I think it would be a complementary move to a Machado or Harper

wouldn't mind it assuming he's not the biggest fish you sign.  It does seem like his teammates absolutely love him.

I mean, I was 100% down with trading Abreu last year (especially to the rockies, seems like a natural fit), and I am still semi-down with trading him this year, but why would a Cruz signing make you want to trade Abreu?

 

Wouldn't signing Cruz (and I'd assume Machado) make us want to keep Abreu to field the best line up?
