  • I don't know, but I know that tweet will come roughly 5 minutes before Fathom quotes it and says "Bad news, guys."

Yup, definitely need to add a 1 to 2 win OF to a long multi-year contract when seven our top 15 prospects are OFs.

Yes the WS are rich in minor league OFs but only one of whom will see GRF in '19 and quite possibly '20. I am not a Heyward fan but if the Cubs paid down his K to fair value (i.e $12M at @1.5 WAR) plus threw in Montgomery a LH who could be a fit, we are considerably better, despite your sarcasm. Then, asuming no Harper, add $30-40M to the payroll and bring in a couple of difference makers, a la Grandal. Alternatively, wait until those 7 OF prospects are ready for prime time in '20/21 and complain about JR/RH/KW.

Why are people still pushing Grandal? We just signed a catcher to backup Castillo.

SH catcher and elite pitch framer who will help our young pitchers immensely. Huge upgrade over Castillo, who I would try to move if we get Grandal.

You didn’t address my point.  Heyward has five years left on his deal, why in the world would we add a guy with that much control who is no longer good?  You can question the timing of our OF prospects if you want to, but there are numerous other ways to address that issue that are better fits than Heyward.  And worst of all, you’ve just created a fan revolt by taking an albstross contract off your rival’s hands so they can land one of the most popular players in the games.  I’m not trying to be mean, but the idea is absolute insanity.

Heyward really is a bad idea for reasons already stated. At rhis point ill take Palka over Heyward all day every day. The cubs can keep that shitty contract or continue to try and trade it to the giants.

If the Sox aren't going to get Harper, I kind of would like to see the Cubs get him.  That would tie up a huge amount of money for a guy that doesn't really move the needle on anything they need, plus they are going to have to move some quality pieces and unbalance the team to get him.  They would be much better served throwing big money at Craig Kimbrel than Bryce Harper.

Talked to three Cubs fans who are close friends and I consider smart baseball guys, and all three don’t really get it from the Cubs side. They all “want” Bryce because it’s Bryce Harper, but don’t see the fit.

HUH????

What has Incarcerated Bob ever gotten right to make us think he’d be privy to this information?  I thought he was generally known to be full of shit.

He had the Goldschmidt trade about a week before the national guys, not sure what else.

I must say, Fathom referring to Incarcerated Bob as “pretty accurate” makes me feel quite confident that his Charles the Cat guy is a fraud

He throws a ton of stuff out there based on other people’s rumors and reports and about 25% of it ends up being right even though it’s just speculation. Any of us could do what he does

Ah. thanks folks.

I still have them closer to $180 million, not $200 million. They were at $200 million ish until they cleared $20 million in the Reds trade?

Its calculated based on AAV of their contracts. Don't just look at 2019 salary alone.

Plus bonuses, and you have to add about $15 million for benefits.

What's the benefits part? I've never heard that every team just has an extra $15 million tacked on for that tax? Can you elaborate?

Are you asking what benefits are?

They don't have many contracts that balloon other than Joe Kelly, their payroll before Homer Bailey comes in is at $158 million, add in a couple extra million for Kelly and Bailey's contract and I get into the mid $180s, but I don't know what the "Benefits" DA just referred to is?
