It is pretty obvious what this acquisition is all about. If it works, it was fabulous. If it doesn’t, it will be a laughable move. Almost laughingstockish.

If the Sox don't offer the most money, I don't think this matters. Now, this type of move matters if say, for example, hes weighing a couple offers and the Sox have the highest bid by say $20m over the Yankees, a team he wants to play for supposedly. Only then does this extra stuff matter.

IF we miss out on Harper, Palka can still play LF/RF (badly but can). 

If the move doesn't work, who cares? Our payroll is dirt low and nobody else is worth offering a long term contract aside from Harper and Machado. If we miss on them, next year really doesn't matter
