Machado signs with Padres 10/300

Featured Replies

Jan. 29: Many Yankees fans have spent the offseason dreaming of Manny Machado in pinstripes, and there were rumors early on that the Bronx was Machado's preferred destination, too. But that possibility remains as remote as ever, as sources tell the New York Daily News' Wallace Matthews that the Yankees still have not extended a formal offer to Machado or his agent, Dan Lozano.

One source familiar with the Yankees' thinking told Matthews that New York has simply "talked in concepts" with Machado's camp, and those concepts have not topped the White Sox's offer, which is thought to be somewhere between $175 and $250 million.

If it were really about money, we would have went into rebuilding a long time ago and perpetually.

Then we’d essentially be the A’s or Rays...just more cost efficient than 2013-2016, hopefully.

The reason I mentioned that was because you really don't see a lot of contracts over 7 or 8 years.  There's really only been about a dozen or so?  Idk maybe more? Which is something outside the box he might consider. With that in mind, all of the top talent coming up in the system certainly helps those considerations.

But you're right. Money is the main consideration.

If we get Manny this will no longer be true, but as of right now, I am having some severe envy of the Reds and their off season.

I couldn't feel more the opposite. They've made one move that I havent hated.

Too many people online are focused on showing off. The Manny thread is but one example.

Agree.  They traded a lot of good prospects for guys with 1 year deals.

Wow. That guy really narrowed it down for us lol

All sides have been keeping the cool poker face and will continue to do so. Show no urgency, no panic, until eventually one side shows that they are beginning to cave ever so slightly. Then that’s when things will get serious.

Wasn't Hector propping up the Padres like two days ago?

I believe he was. His tweets come off as legitimate at times but then there are those agent plants - like SD.

The Sonny Gray move, solely because of the extension, is the only move that I haven't hated from them so far. It's been the only move to improve them behind 2019, which is a sunk year anyway.

And if Philly signs Bryce, hopefully that does it.

And if Philly does happen to sign Manny, then where does Bryce go?

Back to Washington, and we will be hopping on the Rendon/Arenado bandwagon. :(

He’s not going back to Washington.

Isn’t this from the theme song of Beauty & the Beast?

Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly

Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast

Do the Sox even want Harper? We keep hearing they have interested in both players but they seem totally invested in Manny. Either they realize Bryce is going to surely be far too expensive for them or their interest has been exaggerated just to use as a fall back in the Lozano negotiation.

I think Hector is a Russian bot.

I don't think Harper's market is going to fully play out until after Manny signs.

Kinda crazy though that reports have dried up completely after Lozano's statement.

Idea for a new thread title: Manny: It's tricky.

The weather right now is hotter than the hot stove.

Does anyone think he might wait until the season starts to sign?
