February 10, 20197 yr for all the talk about short-term deals it’s hard to figure out how anyone would think things will be more lucrative next year.

If the players continue to perform - taking 2 consecutive 1 year, $50 million deals, then at age 28 taking a 7 year/$200 million deal - accomplishes the same thing as a $300 million guarantee.

And what team would be willing to hand over $50M for 1 year? No reports have even suggested that is a possibility, plus a lot of the heavy hitters are close to the luxury tax and can't afford to do so.
February 10, 20197 yr Hes not gonna take a 1 year deal , 8 year deal with opt outs 32 million plus per

If San Fran, for example, was willing to jump in on Harper for 1 year - yeah that would push them into tax territory but only Washington and Boston paid the tax last year so they'd only face the 1 year penalties. I wouldn't do it, but if they're still insisting they can compete in that division that's a move that could do it.
February 10, 20197 yr Really thinking of starting from page 1 of this thread and reading all the amusing comments we have made over the last months. Maybe by the time I'm done, he will sign somewhere.

A great way to tell when the guys are just looking for attention is when they claim that a signing will be announced 4 days from now. If one of these guys actually wanted to sound believable, they wouldn't try and act like the sides have reached an agreement and are deciding to wait 4 days for whatever reason.
